Matthew Perry Reveals He Crushed ‘Badly’ On Jennifer Aniston During Early Friends Days

Matthew Perry has revealed he harboured a secret crush on Jennifer Aniston during their early years on Friends.

The Chandler Bing actor said things became “awkward” between him and his co-star while filming the hit sitcom because he “badly” fancied her.

Matthew admitted his crush started three years prior to being cast on Friends when they met through mutual acquaintances.

He said he even asked Jennifer out at the time, but she turned him down.

Writing in his new memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which is being serialised in The Times and The Sun, Matthew said he was “immediately taken” by Jennifer when they first met.

He said (via The Times): “I got the sense she was intrigued too – maybe it was going to be something. Back then I got two jobs in one day – one was Haywire, an America’s Funniest Home Videos-type show, and the other was a sitcom. So I called Jennifer and I said, ‘You’re the first person I wanted to tell this to.’

“Bad idea. I could feel ice forming through the phone.”

He continued: “Looking back, it was clear that this made her think I liked her too much or in the wrong kind of way… and I only compounded the error by then asking her out. She declined (which made it very difficult to actually go out with her), but said that she’d love to be friends with me, and I compounded the compound by blurting, “We can’t be friends!’”

After they were later cast as Chandler and Rachel in Friends together, Matthew said that even though he was “still attracted” to Jennifer, they “were able to sail right past the past” and focus on their jobs.

However, things then changed as filming went on, with Matthew continuing: “Fairly early in the making of Friends I realised that I was still crushing badly on Jennifer Aniston. Our hellos and goodbyes became awkward. And then I’d ask myself, how long can I look at her? Is three seconds too long?

“But that shadow disappeared in the hot glow of the show. (That, and her deafening lack of interest.)”

Matthew and Jennifer maintained a close bond, and she also once confronted him about his struggles with alcohol, with Matthew revealing she was the Friends cast member who “reached out the most”.

“I’m really grateful to her for that,” he said in an upcoming US TV interview.

Last year, Matthew and Jennifer came together with the rest of the main Friends cast for the much-hyped one-off reunion special, in which it was revealed she and David Schwimmer came close to being a real-life couple amid the romance between their characters Ross and Rachel.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Helen Skelton Opens Up About Signing Up For Show After Marriage Split

Helen Skelton has admitted she was in two minds about signing up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing after splitting from her husband of nine years.

Back in April, the former Blue Peter presenter announced that she and rugby star Richie Myler – with whom she shares three children – had parted ways, telling her Instagram followers at the time: “Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.”

Just four months later, Helen was announced as one of 15 celebrities taking part in this year’s series of Strictly, which she revealed during a new interview with The Telegraph was not an easy decision.

“I was talking to my best friend about it and I was like, ‘I’m not sure, there’s the kids and the press and it will be full-on’,” she recalled.

“And she just went, ‘What a t*t! You’re going to get paid to dance around with a fit guy, people are going to put make-up on you, and you’ve got to work. It’s not real life, is it? Why wouldn’t you do it?’.”

Helen ultimately decided it would be “disrespectful” to turn the BBC show down, and said yes in the hope it would allow her family to see her “have a great time”.

The Countryfile host said: “When you’ve got kids, if they’re happy, you’re happy. My kid scored a hat-trick this week, and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’. And then I thought, ‘Oh, I do that to my mum and dad’.

“You don’t get it until you’ve got your own kids, do you? It gives you a different perspective.”

Prior to this year’s Strictly launch, Helen told HuffPost UK of her decision to sign up: “I just wanted to do something fun! It was a good chance for my family to see me smiling. And it’s a fun adventure.

“Anybody who’s had anything to do with Strictly will say, the make-up people are the best, the costume people are the best, the set designers are the best, the dancers are the best. So why wouldn’t you want to do something where everyone is literally at the top of their game and loving what they do?”

Helen has been partnered with professional dancer Gorka Marquez on the current series of Strictly, and while the pair have consistently received pretty good scores, she was told by the judges last week to work on her confidence and self-belief.

After they received their critiques on Saturday night, Gorka took a moment to give his celebrity dance partner a pep talk on air, telling her: “I know you’ve been made to feel like you’re not beautiful or good enough or anything, but if you don’t believe in yourself, I believe in you. Everybody here believes in you, your family believes in you.

“It doesn’t matter how many times I say it or the judges say it, you are the one who needs to make the change and believe in you, because you are a very inspirational woman and amazing mum and a brilliant dancer.”

This week, Helen will be paying homage to her old stomping ground with a routine inspired by Blue Peter as part of Strictly’s one-off BBC 100 special to commemorate the broadcaster’s centenary.

Strictly Come Dancing Says Goodbye To Matt Goss After Another Surprise Dance-Off

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing results show.

Matt Goss has become the third celebrity to leave the current series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Bros singer and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova fell to the bottom of the leaderboard in Saturday night’s live show, and were revealed to have landed in the dance-off after failing to secure enough public votes to save them.

What came as more of a shock was that they were joined in the bottom two by Kym Marsh, whose Samba routine had her at joint fifth place on the leaderboard with 32 points of a possible 40.

After both celebrities performed their dances again, the judges unanimously voted to save Kym and her professional partner Graziano Di Prima.

Craig Revel Horwood told the couples: “I think both couples went up a major notch, I mean Matt you went fantastically mad in that, I loved it, and Kym you were really great in that. But the couple I would like to save is Kym and Graziano.”

Motsi Mabuse agreed to save Kym and Graziano, while Anton Du Beke added: “I would just like to say you should both be thrilled with the way you performed in the dance-off, it’s the most high-pressured of situations.

“Matt – that’s your best performance of the whole series, you should be really proud of yourself. But the couple with the higher technical ability, I think for me, going through is Kym and Graziano.”

Although her vote ultimately didn’t count, Head Judge Shirley Ballas revealed she would have chosen the same pair as her colleagues.

Following his elimination, Matt said of his partner Nadiya: “This lovely lady beside me, a world champion with all the patience. I am very honoured to have danced with you.

“And to everyone who is still in, I love you guys, go smash it.”

Nadiya responded: “First I’m so grateful that I got to teach and dance with a music icon.

“But, more important than this, I got the privilege to get to know Matt, for who you really are. Not many people know you and you’re a beautiful soul, very kind human and a real gentleman.”

The remaining 12 couples will all be performing again next week, with each pair delivering a routine inspired by a BBC show, in honour of the broadcaster’s 100th anniversary.

Anneka Rice Causes Confusion After Seemingly Announcing Wrong Winner At The NTAs

The 90s TV personality appeared on stage at the ceremony alongside her Challenge Anneka co-star, Dave the sound man, to present the prize for Best Quiz Game Show.

A video package showing clips from nominated shows Beat the Chasers, In for a Penny, Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel and The 1% Club was played, but things went awry when it came to announcing who had one.

As the camera then cut back to Anneka, she proclaimed: “The 1% Club!”

The audience then began cheering, but as no music played, Anneka quickly realised her mistake.

“No!” she said, before then reading out the list of nominations again.

As she then declared Beat The Chasers as the winner, the show’s host Bradley Walsh appeared to not have realised he’d actually won.

However, as his co-stars headed to collect the prize, he then joined them on stage.

Strictly Come Dancing Result: Richie Anderson Becomes Second Celebrity To Leave

Richie Anderson has become the second celebrity to leave this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC Radio 2 personality and his professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice were voted off the BBC ballroom competition on Sunday.

It came after they landed in the dreaded dance-off alongside Fleur East and her partner Vito Coppola.

Both couples had landed mid-table on the leaderboard during the show’s annual Movie Night, with Richie and Giovanni scoring 27 points for their Samba to Hakuna Matata from The Lion King, and Fleur and Vito scoring 29 for their American Smooth to Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid.

But after the judges’ scores were combined with the votes from the public, both couples had to dance again and fight to stay in the competition.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all voted to save Fleur and Vito, meaning that Richie and Giovanni were eliminated.

However, head judge Shirley Ballas admitted she would have voted to save Richie and Giovanni.

After the result was announced, Richie said of his time on the show: “Do you know what as a Strictly fan I always thought it was a magical thing to be a part of and being here it really is and it’s not just the people that you see on camera, the judges, and you and Claud and the amazing people that I’ve got to meet on this show. The people behind the scenes in hair, make up, costume, Tasha our runner, Stef, Jas, everybody.

“I also want to thank this guy [Giovanni] as well, he’s been so amazing, and I feel so lucky that I’ve got to dance with you every day. Not only are you a fantastic dancer but you are also a fantastic guy on top of that. I want to thank all my family and friends and my other half Dean who is in the audience, I love you so much.”

Giovanni added: “I have to say it’s been an honour to be able to dance with you because I know how much you love Strictly Come Dancing, you really are a superfan. And I’m glad that you got to do this experience and glad that I got to do it with you. It’s been a shame its been too short for us but I hope you’ve enjoyed every single second of it, and it stays in your heart forever.

“Look at us we’ve gone out dressed as Timon and Pumbaa. So lovely jubbly, well done Richie.”

The remaining 13 couples will take to the floor once again when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.

Strictly Come Dancing Result: Loose Women Star Kaye Adams Is First Celebrity Voted Off

Kaye Adams has become the first celebrity to be voted off this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Loose Women star found herself in the bottom two alongside singer Matt Goss on Sunday night’s results show after the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes.

Both stars faced each other in the dreaded dance-off, with Kaye and her dance partner Kai Widdrington performing their Charleston, whilst Matt and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova performed their Samba in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges – Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas – delivered their verdicts.

Craig chose to save Matt and Nadiya, as did Motsi, who said: “Well that was so close, both couples made mistakes. I feel like they were on the same level, but one couple was a little bit better for me, and I am saving Matt and Nadiya.”

Anton Du Beke also chose to save Matt and Nadiya, admitting it “wasn’t a vintage dance-off”.

With three votes to Matt and Nadiya, it meant they had won the majority vote and so Kaye would be leaving the competition. However, head Judge Shirley Ballas said she would have decided to save Kaye and Kai.

When asked if she agreed with the other judges, Shirley said: “I didn’t. I thought due to a little better quality, I would have saved Kaye and Kai.”

When asked by host Tess Daly about their time on the show, Kaye said: “It was the right result and I did make mistakes, and when it comes to that high pressured situation that’s what happens. So I am delighted for Matt and Nadiya, the only person I am just sorry for is this wonderful man [Kai], who has just been so brilliant.

“It was a hell of a lot of fun, I said my ambition was to learn to love to dance, and actually I have seen a whole new side to myself, it’s opened a little door. It’s been a wonderful experience and to spend time with such talented people who love the show. So much has been a joy.”

Kai was then asked if he had any words for Kaye and said: “Only we know how much real hard work has gone into this. There has been lots of ups and downs and we won’t go into them, but this lady is a trooper, and I know what she’s been going through in the week.

“For this woman to come out and give the performance that she did tonight really shows the testament to her character. I am proud of you, I know that your girls and your other half are proud of you, but the most important thing is that you should be proud of yourself, because you are a superstar.”

The remaining fourteen couples will take to the dance floor again next week for the annual Movie Week Special when Strictly returns on Saturday 8 October at 6:30pm. The results show follows on Sunday 9 October at 7:20pm on BBC One.

Laura Whitmore Says There Was ‘Nothing More She Could Do’ With Love Island Role As She Explains Exit

Laura Whitmore has opened up about her exit from Love Island, claiming there was “nothing more” she could do with her hosting role.

The presenter announced she was leaving the ITV2 reality show last month after three series at the helm.

At the time, she said she found “certain elements of the show… very difficult”, including the travelling required.

In a new interview with ES Magazine, Laura has now further explained why she decided to quit, following the announcement she is to make her West End debut in play 2.22: A Ghost Story.

She said: “Love Island is a show that I love to watch, and I always want to work on shows that I enjoy. But there’s nothing more that I can do with it. There are parameters.

“When you work on the show, you can’t really talk about certain things. But I’m really proud of what I did, and proud to leave on what I think has been a brilliant series, with great winners.”

Laura said she was a “huge fan” of 2022 champions Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti, adding: “I know Love Island. People love a journey. No-one wants a happy relationship, because life isn’t a happy relationship. We want to see the ups and downs.”

Laura took over as the host of Love Island for the show’s first winter season in 2020, after her predecessor Caroline Flack stood down amid her legal issues at that time.

She paid tribute to the late star when announcing her departure, saying: “I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into three series. I hope I did you proud Caroline.”

Maya Jama, AJ Odudu and former Islander Maura Higgins have all been linked to the role since Laura stepped down.

ITV recently confirmed that Love Island would be airing two seasons in 2023, the first of which will see the show returning to South Africa for the first time since its initial winter run received a mixed response in 2020.

The Crown Casts Its Prince William And Kate Middleton For Season 6

The Crown has cast its Prince William and Kate Middleton as the hit Netflix series prepares to move closer towards more recent royal events.

The royal period drama returns for its fifth series later this year, with details of cast additions for its subsequent sixth season revealed by Deadline on Friday.

Two actors have been cast as Prince William, with teenager Rufus Kampa playing him at the age of 15, with Ed McVey taking over for his later teen and early adult years.

Meanwhile, Meg Bellamy has been cast as Kate, and said in a post on Instagram: “It is such an honour to be joining the most incredible cast and crew, and I will strive to do Kate justice.”

Ed added: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be given the opportunity to play Prince William in #thecrown in Series 6!!! Along side the amazing @megkbellamy.

“Gunna be an amazing shoot can’t wait to learn all I can!”

Rufus’ tenure as William will focus on the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death in 1997, while Ed will portray the prince as he begins dating Kate after meeting at University of St Andrews in Fife in 2001, according to Deadline.

The Crown will be all three of the actor’s first TV roles, with Rufus and Meg also landing their parts after replying to a callout on social media.

They will begin filming for the sixth and final season of The Crown later this year.

The show was originally slated to end after its fifth series, creator Peter Morgan made a U-turn on the decision.

The upcoming fifth season will see Imelda Staunton taking over the lead role of Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman, while Jonathan Pryce will take over the role of Prince Philip from Tobias Menzies.

Dominic West will succeed Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, with Elizabeth Debicki also taking over from Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.

It’s also been announced that Jonny Lee Miller will be a new addition to the cast, portraying prime minister John Major.

Season 1-4 of The Crown are available to stream on Netflix now.
