Princess Diana Once Admitted To Tim Curry That She Was A Huge Rocky Horror Fan

Tim Curry has sadly passed away at aged 80. He was a cinematic legend and undoubtedly most people will know him from his role in the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show, a movie that shaped generations to come.

He once revealed that the late Princess Diana confided in him that she was a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary, Tim revealed that he met the Princess Of Wales and her then-husband King Charles after a show he’d performed in at the Royal National Theatre.

While the future king enquired if Tim had been on television, Diana didn’t have to – as she instantly knew him from the 1975 musical movie.

The Clue actor admitted he was surprised the royal would know about the cult classic, telling her: “I don’t suppose you saw it.”

“Of course I did,” she apparently responded, quipping: “It quite completed my education.”

Tim had previously spoken to the Fresh Air radio show about his royal encounter during an interview from earlier this year.

He explained that Diana had requested to meet him after he performed in a production of Love For Love in Vienna, where she and Charles were guests of honour.

“She was a very funny girl, and a very beautiful one, and sort of the – a very wicked smile came with that sentence,” he recalled. “She was great fun.”

Tim then revealed that Princess Margaret had also been to see the Rocky Horror theatre show in the early 70s before it was adapted for the big screen, and “had a wonderful time”.

Elsewhere in his CBS interview, Tim said the enduring appeal of the movie musical was that it permits people to “say the stuff they always wanted to say”.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show first began as a stage musical created by Richard O’Brien. While the theatre show was a word-of-mouth hit, the 1975 film adaptation was met with poor reviews and was a box office bomb.

However, thanks to its cult following and midnight screenings, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become the longest-running theatrical release in history, with showings happening worldwide for five decades.

The camp classic is still parodied, revered and homaged to this day, with Sabrina Carpenter being the latest star to give a nod to the film in her Tears music video.

A documentary about The Rocky Horror Show, entitled Strange Journey, premiered at the SXSW festival earlier this year, directed by Richard O’Brien’s son Linus.

Sabrina Carpenter Channels Rocky Horror In Her Most Iconic (And Outrageous) Video To Date

Sabrina Carpenter is certainly holding onto her position as one of her generation’s most exciting music video artists.

While past clips for her songs Taste and Please Please Please have seen her paying homage to Death Becomes Her and channelling Bonnie and Clyde, her latest effort sees her sending a defiant message to critics of her more sexualised offerings with a tribute to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

And, as with the aforementioned Taste and Please Please Please videos, the newest addition to her oeuvre also features an impressive A-list guest.

On Friday morning, to coincide with the release of her already-controversial new album Man’s Best Friend, Sabrina unveiled the music video for the collection’s second track Tears.

In the clip, she’s joined by two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, who plays the Frank-N-Furter to her Janet.

As with Rocky Horror, the video opens with Sabrina dressed demurely, before she encounters Colman’s mysterious character, and finds herself in increasingly surreal (and, indeed, racy) scenarios, culminating in her putting her own spin on some of the cult film’s most iconic scenes.

Meanwhile, as you may have come to expect from the performer of songs like Juno and Bed Chem, the lyrics feature some pretty suggestive double entendres.

The song features Sabrina singing about how arousing she finds it when a man does simple things like showing “a little initiative”, “remembering I have feelings”, knowing how to “assemble a chair from IKEA” and even offering to “just do the dishes”.

“I get wet at the thought of you being a responsible guy,” she croons over the chorus. “Treating me like you’re supposed to do, tears run down my thighs.”

Alrighty then… shall we have the video now?

Sabrina recently shut down critics of her more racy lyrics during an interview with Gayle King for Friday’s edition of CBS Mornings.

[My new album] album is not for any pearl clutchers,” she quipped. “But I, I also think that even pearl clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves…”

Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend is available to stream now.
