Celebrity Masterchef: Everything Fans Will Want To Know About The 2023 Series

Celebrity Masterchef will be back on our screens in a matter of days with a fresh batch of famous faces hoping to impress in the kitchen.

This year’s series will see everyone from Love Islanders to soap stars demonstrating their culinary skills and knowledge in the hope of following in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Lisa Snowdon.

From who’s taking part to the all-important release date, here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 series of Celebrity Masterchef…

Who’s in the line-up?

A total of 20 famous faces will be battling it out in the show’s iconic kitchen.

The first episode will feature Love Island’s Dani Dyer, The Inbetweeners’ Jay Cartwright actor James Buckley, comedian Marcus Brigstocke, Mica Ven from Gogglebox and Strictly Come Dancing’s Richie Anderson.

Emmerdale’s Amy Walsh, Cheryl Hole of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK fame, rapper Apl.de.Ap, Strictly pro Dianne Buswell and comedians Shazia Mirza and Terry Christian will also be trying to impress the judges.

Lisa Snowdon is the reigning Celebrity Masterchef champion

Also taking part are singers Jamelia and Sam Fox, entertainer Dave Benson Phillips, veteran actor Michael Praed and broadcaster Remi Burgz.

Musician Locksmith, Love Islander Luca Bish, The Wanted’s Max George and opera singer Wynne Evans complete the line-up.

What challenges will they face?

The first 60-minute episode of each heat week will see all five celebs take on the show’s classic ‘Under The Cloche’ challenge before creating their two-course dinner party dishes.

Returning challenges will include the Dinner Party and Nostalgia dish rounds, and a mysterious new Celebrity Food Truck challenge is also on the cards.

Who will be judging?

As always, Gregg Wallace – fresh from fronting Channel 4’s controversial Miracle Meat mockumentary – and John Torode will be back to oversee the competition.

When does the series start?

The first episode airs on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday 2 August at 9pm. The next episodes air the following day at 8.30pm and on Friday 4 August at 8pm.

It’s expected that the rest of the series will follow this pattern, but the schedules will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Strictly Come Dancing Result: Richie Anderson Becomes Second Celebrity To Leave

Richie Anderson has become the second celebrity to leave this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC Radio 2 personality and his professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice were voted off the BBC ballroom competition on Sunday.

It came after they landed in the dreaded dance-off alongside Fleur East and her partner Vito Coppola.

Both couples had landed mid-table on the leaderboard during the show’s annual Movie Night, with Richie and Giovanni scoring 27 points for their Samba to Hakuna Matata from The Lion King, and Fleur and Vito scoring 29 for their American Smooth to Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid.

But after the judges’ scores were combined with the votes from the public, both couples had to dance again and fight to stay in the competition.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all voted to save Fleur and Vito, meaning that Richie and Giovanni were eliminated.

However, head judge Shirley Ballas admitted she would have voted to save Richie and Giovanni.

After the result was announced, Richie said of his time on the show: “Do you know what as a Strictly fan I always thought it was a magical thing to be a part of and being here it really is and it’s not just the people that you see on camera, the judges, and you and Claud and the amazing people that I’ve got to meet on this show. The people behind the scenes in hair, make up, costume, Tasha our runner, Stef, Jas, everybody.

“I also want to thank this guy [Giovanni] as well, he’s been so amazing, and I feel so lucky that I’ve got to dance with you every day. Not only are you a fantastic dancer but you are also a fantastic guy on top of that. I want to thank all my family and friends and my other half Dean who is in the audience, I love you so much.”

Giovanni added: “I have to say it’s been an honour to be able to dance with you because I know how much you love Strictly Come Dancing, you really are a superfan. And I’m glad that you got to do this experience and glad that I got to do it with you. It’s been a shame its been too short for us but I hope you’ve enjoyed every single second of it, and it stays in your heart forever.

“Look at us we’ve gone out dressed as Timon and Pumbaa. So lovely jubbly, well done Richie.”

The remaining 13 couples will take to the floor once again when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.

John Whaite Shares Emotional Post As Strictly Come Dancing Announces Next Same-Sex Pairing

John Whaite has shown his support for Richie Anderson following the news that Strictly Come Dancing will include a third same-sex partnership in this year’s series.

After Nicola Adams and Katya Jones competed together in 2020, John was part of Strictly’s first ever pairing made up of two men during last year’s run, alongside Johannes Radebe.

The Great British Bake Off winner proved popular with viewers, making it all the way to the final where he and Johannes finished in second place behind champions Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.

After the announcement that Radio 2 presenter Richie will also dance with a male professional on this year’s series, John shared a poignant statement on his Instagram story on Saturday morning.

“I’m so bloody pleased that Strictly are doing a male-male couple again this year and hope it is the case every year from now on,” John wrote.

“It has to be. Because queer-inclusion isn’t a box-ticking exercise for one series, it’s a fundamental shift in the narrative for life.”

John went on thank Strictly’s behind-the-scenes team for “continuing to include the outcasts” before wishing “all the love and luck” to Richie who he said was “going to love every second”.

Apparently, John’s former professional partner Johannes was also feeling nostalgic at the weekend, writing on his own Instagram: “Now that Strictly rehearsals have started, I’ve been thinking back to last year when I had the pleasure of meeting [John].

“I can’t believe it’s been a year since John came into my life and what a fabulous and truly special Strictly journey we had. There were moments during the show which took my breath away, including the overwhelming support we received. I can’t thank everybody enough for the kind comments and for taking the time to vote. It means so so much.

“Not only is John an amazing dancer, he is an incredible friend and I can’t imagine a life without him in it.”

He added: “Although my strictly journey with John has come to a close, I’m feeling the energy and magic of the show again and I am looking forward to the next Strictly chapter and the excitement and challenges this will bring. I cannot wait, let the adventure begin!”

John then commented: “You bugger – you’ve made me cry into my avocado on toast… love you.”

Richie also wrote under the post: “Icons.”

Strictly will return to our screens next month, with bosses already unveiling five of the celebrities who’ll be taking part.
