Rishi Sunak Breached Parliament’s Code Of Conduct Over Wife’s Shareholdings

Rishi Sunak indadvertedly breached the code of conduct when he failed to declare his wife’s shares in a childcare company, parliament’s standards commissioner has said.

Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murthy, is a shareholder in Koru Kids, which looks set to benefit from the government’s new childcare policy.

But the prime minister did not mention Murthy’s links the company when he was questioned by MPs at the liaison committee in March.

Following his inquiry, Greenberg said: “I reviewed the information available to me and concluded that, in accordance with the Code, Ms Murty’s shareholding was a relevant interest that should have been declared during the Liaison Committee meeting on 28 March 2023

“Having considered the information available to me, I have decided that the breach of the code appears to have been inadvertent. I confirm that the matter is now closed.”

Greenberg added Sunak’s breach of the code had arose out his “confusion” over the rules.

The government has launched a pilot of incentive payments of £600 for childminders joining the profession, a sum that doubles to £1,200 if they sign up through an agency.

Koru Kids is one of six childminder agencies listed on the government’s website that could benefit.

Poll: Labour Now On 50% With 25-Point Lead Over The Conservatives

Labour now has the support of 50% of voters and has surged to a 25-point lead over the Conservatives, according to a new poll.

It will be a blow to Rishi Sunak and a boost to Keir Starmer after a difficult August for the prime minister.

The Deltapoll survey put Labor on 50%, the Tories on 25%, the Lib Dems on 9% and other parties on 17%.

Sunak has to call a general election by January 2025 at the latest, but it is widely assumed he will go to the country next year.

The poll was conducted between August 17 and 21 and showed Labour jumping 4-points and the Conservatives dropping 4-points since the previous survey, which was run from August 9 until 11.

According to the pollster, it means Labour has widened its lead over the Tories by 8-points.

The government had hoped to use the second week of August to take the fight to Labour on migration and the NHS.

But “small boats week” backfired when asylum seekers being housed on the Bibby Stockholm barge were removed after the Legionella bacteria was discovered on-board.

Sunak has also admitted he may not meet his pledge to “stop the boats” by the next election.

And “health week” – which followed – was consumed by a row over waiting times for cancer patients.

There was better news for the prime minister last week however, when the latest figures showed inflation dropped to to 6.8% in the year to July from 7.9% in June.

The PM has promised to half inflation from its peak of 10.7% at the start of the year.

Officials statistics also showed UK wages had grown at a record rate in the three months to June.

First Mug Shots In Trump’s Georgia Election Interference Case Released

Fulton County officials have released the first two booking photos of defendants indicted in Donald Trump’s election interference case in Georgia.

John Eastman, an attorney whose fringe theories were at the core of Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, turned himself in on Tuesday and was released on $100,000 (£78,347) bond.

Later in the evening, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office released his image:

Also on Tuesday, bail bondsman Scott Hall turned himself after being charged for his alleged role in the breach of voting machines in Georgia’s Coffee County.

He was released on $10,000 bond (£7,834), and the sheriff’s office released this photo:

Trump is expected to surrender at Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail on Thursday.

The former president was not photographed during his previous three indictments, but that is expected to change this week. Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat has said there would be no special treatment for the former president.

“It doesn’t matter your status, we’ll have a mug shot ready for you,” Labat told reporters earlier this month.

Nineteen people, including Trump, have been indicted in the Georgia case and have been given until Friday to surrender.

The indictment, based on an investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, accuses Trump and the co-defendants of breaking state laws by engaging in a widespread scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential vote in Georgia and elsewhere.

Georgia Rep. Reveals What ‘Ought To Scare’ Trump Most In Criminal Case

A state lawmaker in Georgia delivered a blunt warning to Donald Trump about his criminal case in the state.

“I think that of all the indictments that Trump faces, coming to Fulton County and facing Fani Willis in a courtroom ought to scare him,” Representative Tanya Miller (Democrat) told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on Tuesday.

The former president and 18 others were indicted in the state on a host of charges including racketeering over their efforts to pressure officials into overturning the results of the 2020 election, among other allegations.

But Miller said that won’t work here.

“I think he is about to mess around and find out, Joy, exactly who Fani Taifa Willis is,” she said, calling Willis one of the “most straight-shooting, straight-arrow prosecutors” that she’s ever come across.

“She is fearless. She is fierce. And when she stands up in front of the citizens of Fulton County and tells them what she intends do, you better believe she is going to follow through on it,” she said.

She said Willis won’t be intimidated by Trump.

“In fact, all he will do if he attempts to do that is embolden her to be stronger and more steadfast,” she said.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Jokes About Natural Disaster To Insult A Political Foe

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (Republican, Georgia) invited social media scorn on Sunday by making light of tropical storm Hilary to insult frequent Republican target, Hillary Clinton.

Greene retweeted a meme of the former Democratic presidential candidate’s head tracking Hilary, the first tropical storm to hit California in 84 years. The downgraded hurricane flooded parts of Southern California, generating mudslides and forcing first responders to rescue people from swollen rivers.

“Hillary downgraded to a tropical storm,” Greene wrote, using the spelling for Clinton rather than the storm. “She can’t even succeed as a hurricane but likely still deadly.. First tropical storm in 84 years, stay safe California!”

Greene’s dubious attempt at a political dig didn’t go ignored on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Critics called her “a sick loser,” “unprofessional” and a “vile individual” who may find herself at the wrong end of “karma” for her insensitivity.

Mary Trump Predicts Donald Trump’s ‘Going To Regret’ Having Cameras In The Courtroom

Mary Trump believes televising Donald Trump’s criminal trials might help deprogram some of his supporters ― and predicts the former president will come to regret it.

Trump is expected to appear in a Fulton County courtroom next month for his formal arraignment following his indictment on racketeering charges over an alleged conspiracy to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

Unlike federal or Manhattan courts, where Trump appeared for his first three arraignments, cameras are permitted in Georgia courtrooms with a judge’s approval.

“I think it’s going to have an enormous impact, because even for people who are his supporters and who think that this is a miscarriage of justice, this will be must-see TV,” the former president’s niece, a clinical psychologist and author, told MSNBC’s Katie Phang on Sunday.

“And Donald has always told them not to believe their lying eyes ― only to believe him,” she added. “However, when he’s the one they’re looking at, it’s going to be very difficult for him to spin away from what’s actually happening in front of our eyes.”

One of Trump’s attorneys, John Lauro, has pushed for cameras in the courtroom in the federal case concerning Trump’s attempted coup, telling CNN earlier this month: “I personally want the public to see what’s going on in this country right now.”

Democratic lawmakers have called for the same thing, arguing it’s important the public sees the strength of the evidence and how the trial is conducted

“I think it’s going to be monumentally important that there be cameras, at the very least in the Fulton County courtroom,” Mary Trump said, noting that Trump’s legal team had asked for cameras in federal court.

“I also think that it’s going to be something that Donald himself is going to regret,” she added. “And I think pretty quickly they’re going to find out that that’s really not something that they wanted after all.”
