Alan Cumming Hits Back At ‘Lump Of Ignorance’ Piers Morgan In OBE Row

Alan Cumming has fired back at Piers Morgan after the former Good Morning Britain presenter called him “pathetic” and “disingenuous” for returning his OBE.

Last week, the Traitors US host revealed that he had recently handed back the honour, which he had been given to him in 2009 for his services to drama and LGBTQ+ activism.

In a post to commemorate his 58th birthday, Alan explained he had “misgivings” at “being associated with the toxicity of empire”.

After the story was picked up by multiple news outlets on both sides of the Atlantic, Piers tweeted of Alan: “What a pathetic, disingenuous, disloyal, attention-seeking little twerp.”

However, Alan brushed off the criticism during an appearance on SiriusXM Progress radio this week, saying that “if you’re pissing off Piers Morgan, you’re on the right track”.

He added: “I think that lump of ignorance, if I’m pissing him off, I’m doing the right thing.”

Naturally, after hearing what Alan had to say about him, Piers had a response.

Tweeting a clip of the radio interview, Piers said: “Ditto, Mr Cumming. Your explanation of your OBE return is so comically disingenuous.

“You did it for a bit of wokie social media love and (much-needed!) press attention – just admit it.”

In an interview with People magazine earlier this week, Alan said he “didn’t ever expect so much attention about it”.

“It’s been really positive,” he continued. “People really understood why it’s complicated, it’s complex, it’s not a black or white thing.

“I tried to say that in my statement, and people have really responded to that. I think times are changing and things change, and you change how you feel about something.”

In his original post, Alan said he had “reiterated my great gratitude for being given it in the first place” upon returning the honour.

He added: “The Queen’s death and the ensuing conversations about the role of monarchy and especially the way the British Empire profited at the expense (and death) of indigenous peoples across the world really opened my eyes.

“Also, thankfully, times and laws in the US have changed, and the great good the award brought to the LGBTQ+ cause back in 2009 is now less potent than the misgivings I have being associated with the toxicity of empire (OBE stands for Officer of the British Empire).”

S Club 7 Singer Hannah Spearritt And Children Forced Out Of Home Before Christmas

S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt has said she and her family had to move into an office over Christmas and New Year, after being forced of their home by a landlord.

The chart-topping star said she had lived in four temporary homes in the last six months, adding “it was stressful, but you deal with it”.

In an interview with The Sun, Hannah said public perception of her and fellow bandmates as “millionaires” was “just not true”.

Speaking about her time spent in between permanent living spaces, she said: “Our landlord needed the money and the property sold so fast. We ended up with under two days to leave.

“What screwed us is we didn’t have time to find another place. We had somewhere over Christmas but ran out of time before we could move in. It was just a couple of weeks.

“We were allowed to stay in our friend’s office. We just used it as our living room.

“It was extra space. It was stressful but you deal with it, don’t you? Especially with the kids.”

She added: “People think we must all be millionaires but sadly it’s just not true. It was what it was and we enjoyed ourselves at the time.”

Hannah also told The Sun she had come down with an illness that had left her confined to her bed, while her and her partner’s new cafe venture had also stalled.

S Club 7 were formed in 1998 and consisted of Hannah, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole, Rachel Stevens and Tina Barrett.

Their hits included Don’t Stop Movin’, Bring It All Back, and Never Had A Dream Come True.

After the group went their separate ways, Hannah also pursued a career in acting, appearing in shows like Primeval, EastEnders and Casualty.

Hannah told The Sun she is the only member of the group not to sign up for S Club’s upcoming reunion gigs, including shows at London’s O2 Arena, this autumn.

“I’m going to make a final decision soon,” she explained. “I just need to be sure everything will be okay health-wise.

“There is no point being paid pittance and getting exhausted. It has to be worthwhile and I have the kids to think about. I’d like them to see me up there.

“It’s an opportunity to do things right this time.”

S Club 7 previously reformed for a 12-date reunion tour back in 2015.

Adam Lambert Speaks Out Over ‘Sarcastic Little Comment’ About Theo James Playing George Michael

Adam Lambert has clarified a comment he made when he appeared to criticise the suggestion that The White Lotus actor Theo James could play George Michael in a rumoured film about the singer’s life.

During an appearance on the US talk show Watch What Happens Live, Theo was asked if he would be interested in playing the lead in a biopic about the Wham! star, admitting he’d jump at the chance and described the Careless Whisper singer as an “icon”.

After the LGBTQ+ news outlet The Advocate shared the story on social media, Adam shot down the idea of Theo playing a gay man on screen.

“Yay another straight man playing a gay icon,” Adam wrote in a since-deleted comment.

The Queen singer and American Idol finalist has now spoken about his initial reaction during an appearance at the Sundance Film Festival, where he is promoting Fairyland starring Scoot McNairy as Steve, a gay dad living in 1970s San Francisco.

“Adam, you recently had some choice words about straight actors playing gay people with regards to Theo James potentially tackling George Michael. Explain,’ a Variety reporter asked him.

In response, the singer said it would be “ridiculous” to suggest only gay actors can play gay roles but went on to highlight a lack of equal casting opportunities within the film and TV industry.

“My actual comment – my little sarcastic comment on it – was [about] a straight actor playing a gay icon, which I think is a bit different,” Adam explained.

“I by no means think gay characters should only be played by gay actors. I think that would be ridiculous.

“Case in point: Scott’s brilliant performance in this film, which is incredibly moving and soulful. I don’t imagine anyone else playing this part.

“I just think, as a queer person, so many doors have been closed to us for so long, it’s a big step forward that these stories are at least now being told, but I hope that in the future you would also see an out actor be able to tackle a leading role.

“You haven’t really seen that very often.”

He added: “To the naysayers who are like, ‘oh, it’s acting, what about the other way around, are you saying that gay actors should only play gay characters?’

“You look at Kristen Stewart playing Diana, and that was a brilliant performance as well [but] we don’t have that many examples of queer people playing non-queer icons.

“I just want some equal opportunity that’s all.”

In March 2020, the American Idol finalist told Metro that he would like to play George – who died in 2016 aged 53 – should a biopic ever be made.

“That’d be cool,” he said. “I just feel like, we don’t know that much about him. You know, to me, it would be great to kind of explore George’s life.

“I’d give it a go. Yeah, sign me up.”

In recent years, prominent queer figures including Elton John and Freddie Mercury have been portrayed by non-gay actors – Taron Egerton in Rocketman and Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, respectively.

It’s A Sin and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has previously spoken out about his belief that only gay actors should play gay characters.

“It’s about authenticity, he insisted. “You wouldn’t cast someone able-bodied and put them in a wheelchair, you wouldn’t black someone up. Authenticity is leading us to joyous places.”

Meanwhile, George Michael’s estate has denied the existence of any current plans to release a film on his life.

“To all of George’s Lovelies, fans and lovers of his music, a story has been published stating that George Michael’s family has endorsed a so-called ‘biopic’ about his life,” it said.

“On behalf of George’s family and [George Michael Entertainment] we want to make it clear that there is no truth whatsoever in this story, we know nothing about this project and will not be endorsing it in any way.”

Chrissy Teigen And John Legend Share First Photo Of Their Newborn Daughter

On Thursday, the model posted an Instagram photo of the couple’s two older children, Luna and Miles, holding the new baby, named Esti Maxine.

“The house is bustling and our family could not be happier,” Teigen wrote in a caption for the post.

“Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love, and I am learning you still need diapers with a c section!? We are in bliss. Thank you for all the love and well wishes – we feel it all!”

Legend shared the same photo on his Instagram account, writing that he was in awe of Teigen’s “strength and resilience.”

Esti Maxine was born Jan. 13, Legend said, adding that Luna, 6, and Miles, 4, have embraced the newborn.

In an Instagram post from December, the cookbook author poked fun at people who have said that her pregnancy felt longer than it actually was.

“Omg I feel like she’s been pregnant foreverrrrrr,” she wrote, imitating the kinds of remarks she would hear. “How do you think I feel thank u.”

Cheryl Opens Up On Mental Health Struggles During Height Of Fame: ‘It Was All Too Much For Me’

Cheryl has opened up about how her mental health was impacted at the height of her fame, and how she struggled to cope.

The former Girls Aloud star has taken a step back from the spotlight in recent years following the birth of her son Bear in 2017.

The singer, who is about to return to the stage in her debut acting role in the West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story, admits the media attention and scrutiny she faced around her divorce from footballer Ashley Cole in 2010 when she was also a judge on The X Factor and a successful solo artist, was “the perfect storm” and was “too much pressure”.

She told The Independent: “I was already known with Girls Aloud and it [grew] slowly for the first four or five years, just being at a certain level of fame. And then The X Factor hit, and I had a lot of personal stuff going on at that time.

“It was all just like a perfect storm,” she said. “I was caught up in it, I couldn’t get out of it. It was too much for me. There was too much pressure and that made it less enjoyable. And it was constant.”

When she was asked how she coped, she replied: “I honestly didn’t.”

As a well as dealing with an unhealthy “level of intrusion” from the press, the 39-year-old reveals she also had to deal with stalkers.

“I had people waiting outside my house, people stalking me, people stalking people I was associated with,” she said.

“It was quite isolating in the end. it wasn’t a healthy state to be in or a healthy level of intrusion.”

She added: “But I got through it somehow. I survived.”

Cheryl’s return to the stage comes 16 months after the death of her Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding from breast cancer in September 2021.

She says there are no plans for the band to reform, but hasn’t ruled it out entirely.

“We’re not there. We’re not there yet,” she told the newspaper. “I wouldn’t ever say never because I’ve learned in life to not do that. But there isn’t anything on the cards and we haven’t spoken [about anything] outside of friendship in the last few years. We haven’t spoken about Girls Aloud; we’ve only spoken about life.”

In July last year, Cheryl reunited with her Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberly Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts to join fans and supporters in Race For Life For Sarah, a 5k run to raise money and celebrate the life of Sarah.

Jennifer Coolidge’s TikTok Debut Features A ‘Poem’ And A Seriously A-List Guest

Just when you thought you couldn’t love Jennifer Coolidge any more than you already did.

The White Lotus star has joined TikTok and gifted us all with a truly iconic debut clip featuring a (ahem) “poem” and one seriously A-list cameo.

“Hi, this is my first TikTok,” the Legally Blonde star begins.

“And I was trying to think of something cool to do, and I think I’m just gonna do a poem that I like.”

And no, Jen didn’t choose Shakespeare…

Jennifer and J-Lo’s appearance in the TikTok clip comes as the two stars promote their new rom-com, Shotgun Wedding.

Speaking to ET about working with the recent Emmy and Golden Globe-winning star on the film, J-Lo said “iIt was one of those things where everything came together.”

Their co-star Josh Duhamel was also full of praise for the American Pie star, admitting he was a “huge fan”.

“She is a wonderful person to have around the set. She’s very chill,” he said.

“What I’ll never forget about working with Jennifer was that we didn’t know if she was like, doing it on purpose or if it was like part of her thing ― it’s almost like an Andy Kaufman thing,” he said of Jennifer’’s oddball character choices.

“It makes everybody feel like we need another take, and she’s like, ‘No, I’m good.’ And then you see it, and it’s brilliant… She’s one of those enigmas.”

Andrew Garfield And Interviewer Have Sizzling Red Carpet Flirtation — Twice

Who knew conversations about armpits and astrology could be so tantalising?

British media personality Amelia Dimoldenberg, best known for her YouTube series Chicken Shop Date, deployed her trademark awkwardness and expert flirting skills while interviewing Andrew Garfield at two separate red carpet events recently — and their chemistry is off the charts.

Chicken Shop Date is a popular YouTube series in which Dimoldenberg takes different celebrities like Jack Harlow, Ed Sheeran and Daniel Kaluuya to notoriously unsexy fried chicken joints for hilariously clumsy “dates.”

In November, Dimoldenberg got a gig interviewing celebrities on the red carpet for GQ’s Men of the Year Awards. It was there that Garfield approached her to tell her he was a fan.

“I think you’re great,” Garfield shyly says to Dimoldenberg in a video that went viral on Twitter.

After some back-and-forth, Dimoldenberg then tells Garfield that she’s been trying to get a “date” with him “for a while.”

“I’m asking you out right now,” Dimoldenberg said, shooting her shot to get Garfield on her show, but also perhaps insinuating a real date.

“You do date a lot of people,” the The Amazing Spider-Man star said bashfully.

“Yeah, and?” Dimoldenberg shot back.

“Oh no, it’s wonderful,” Garfield said. “It’s just like, I don’t know. I just feel less special, I guess.”

“No way, you are the most special,” Dimoldenberg said.

“Right,” Garfield said nervously laughing. “You say that to every single person.”

“No, I don’t. You’re the first person I’ve called special tonight — especially your armpits,” Dimoldenberg said, referring to a GQ cover story of Garfield in November, which includes photos of the the Under The Banner Of Heaven star shirtless, with his arms raised, and appearing to be sniffing himself.

After Garfield admits that he hated that photo and almost asked the magazine to “kill it,” Dimoldenberg tells him that it was her “favourite image” from the shoot.

“It’s the background on my phone,” she says.

Garfield then asks if she has an armpit fetish, and after some more adorable back-and-forth, Dimoldenberg says: “Look, I’m giving you a compliment, you look really good, just take the compliment.”

“You look lovely as well. You look very beautiful,” Garfield says before leaning to the side to check her out.
