Britney Spears Arrested In California

Britney Spears was arrested in California on Wednesday night.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office website, the chart-topping singer was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

The site does not list a reason for Britney’s arrest, and the …Baby One More Time star was released from custody in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Britney is now due to appear in court on Monday 4 May.

A representative told HuffPost UK: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

TMZ pointed out that Britney’s arrest came just hours after she was granted a restraining order against a man from her home state of Louisiana, who her team alleged had been repeatedly showing up at her home in LA and sharing “disturbing social media posts” about her.

It’s been a turbulent few years for Britney, who in 2021 was released from a conservatorship she’d been placed under 13 years earlier.

Since then, she has married and subsequently divorced the actor Sam Asghari, released a popular memoir telling her story for the first time, The Woman In Me, and returned to the music scene with the top 10 Elton John collaboration, Hold Me Closer.

However, more recently, she has claimed she has vowed “never” to “return to the music industry”.

Throughout this time, Britney has been keeping fans updated on her life with candid posts on her Instagram, which is currently deactivated.

Last year, she found herself back in the headlines after her ex-husband Kevin Federline made a series of allegations about her as a wife and mother in his own memoir You Thought You Knew.

In a statement, Britney’s spokesperson pointed out that the claims, made in Kevin’s new book, coincided with the Grammy winner no longer having to pay him child support, and accused the former back-up dancer of “profiting off her”.

“All [Britney] cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism,” her representative insisted. “She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

Britney and Kevin are parents to two sons, 20-year-old Sean Preston and 19-year-old Jayden James.

Matthew Lillard Says Quentin Tarantino Jibes Felt Like A ‘Punch In The Mouth’

Matthew Lillard has admitted he had a profound reaction to the support he received after Quentin Tarantino’s recent disparaging comments about him.

Late last year, during an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino said he didn’t “care for” Lillard, as well as taking shots at fellow actors Paul Dano and Owen Wilson.

Talking to People magazine, the Scream actor joked that the outpouring of love he received in the wake of the controversial interview made him feel like he was going to his own funeral.

“It felt like I had died and was in heaven watching everyone send out their RIP tweets,” he explained, adding that the likes of George Clooney and Superman director James Gunn had “been really generous” by sticking up for him and “telling me how much they loved me and liked my work”.

“I mean, it was really nice being a part of your own wake, sort of sitting there living through all the nice things people say after you die,” the Scooby-Doo star quipped.

He admitted that Tarantino’s remarks were especially painful because he had previously been a big fan of the Pulp Fiction director, and would “love” to work with him in the future.

“I think he’s a lovely filmmaker, and to just sort of get punched in the mouth was kind of a bummer,” he admitted.

Lillard first addressed Tarantino’s comments in December during an appearance at GalaxyCon in Ohio.

Reflecting on what had been said, Lillard admitted his feelings had been hurt, and that it “fucking [sucked]” that the One Upon A Time In Hollywood director had aired his negative views.

“You wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood,” he said.

While Paul Dano never commented publicly on Tarantino calling him the “weakest fucking actor in SAG,” he did admit the many comments defending him were “nice”.

“I was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn’t have to,” Dano told Variety earlier this year.

James Van Der Beek, Dawson’s Creek Star, Dies Aged 48

James Van Der Beek has died at the age of 48.

She wrote: “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.

“There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”

James began his acting career in the early 90s with a number of small roles, before landing the title role in Dawson’s Creek in 1998.

The show ran for six seasons before coming to an end in 2003, with the cast also including the likes of Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson.

His other TV work included recurring roles in How I Met Your Mother and another teen drama, One Tree Hill, as well as playing a fictionalised version of himself in the sitcom Don’t Trust The B– In Apartment 23.

Meanwhile, James’ film work included Varsity Blues (for which he won a Teen Choice Award in the late 1990s), The Rules Of Attraction, Labor Day and, more recently, Bad Hair.

In November 2024, James disclosed that he had been diagnosed with stage-three cancer and was undergoing treatment.

Last year, he took part in the US version of The Masked Singer as “Griffin”, as well as making a well-received cameo in the comedy Overcompensating.

Around this time, he had been due to take part in a one-off Dawson’s Creek reunion with his former castmates, but was ultimately unable to attend due to illness.

Prior to his death, he had completed work on the Legally Blonde TV prequel Elle, in which he will be seen as the recurring character Dean Wilson in his final TV role.

James is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their six children.

Catherine O’Hara, Emmy-Winning Schitt’s Creek Star, Dies Aged 71

Emmy-winning actor Catherine O’Hara has died at the age of 71.

On Friday night, the Schitt’s Creek actor’s agents confirmed that the Canadian-American performer had died at her home in Los Angeles following what they described as a “brief illness”.

Catherine’s career began as a cast member on the Canadian sketch series Second City Television, for which she won her first Emmy in 1982.

From there, she branched out into acting, often in comedic roles, making appearances in films like Beetlejuice, Home Alone and its sequel, After Hours and Christopher Guest mockumentaries like Best In Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration.

She was also a prolific voice actor, performing in the likes of Disney’s Chicken Little, the Apple TV+ comedy Central Park and The Nightmare Before Christmas, in which she provided both the speaking and singing voice for Sally.

However, to many she’ll be best remembered for her work as the incomparable Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek.

The show reunited Catherine with her former Second City and Best In Show co-star Eugene Levy, alongside his son Dan, who was also the show’s co-creator, and Annie Murphy.

Schitt’s Creek became a sleeper hit after its premiere in 2015, eventually running for six seasons and earning all four of its main cast members Emmy wins.

Catherine also won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors’ Guild Award for her performance as Moira in 2020.

Last year, Catherine made a guest appearance in the second season of The Last Of Us, playing the therapist of Pedro Pascal’s character Joel, and joined the cast of Seth Rogen’s hit comedy The Studio.

She played studio-head-turned-producer Patty Leigh in the Apple TV+ comedy, earning yet another nomination at both the Emmys and Golden Globes.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and their sons Matthew and Luke.

Kanye West Issues Public Apology ‘To Those I’ve Hurt’ Over Past Antisemitic Comments

“25 years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain. At the time, the focus was on the visible damage – the fracture, the swelling, and the immediate physical trauma. The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed.

“Comprehensive scans were not done, neurological exams were limited, and the possibility of a frontal-lobe injury was never raised. It wasn’t properly diagnosed until 2023. That medical oversight caused serious damage to my mental health and led to my bipolar type-1 diagnosis.

“Bipolar disorder comes with its own defence system. Denial. When you’re manic, you don’t think you’re sick. You think everyone else is overreacting. You feel like you’re seeing the world more clearly than ever, when in reality you’re losing your grip entirely.

“Once people label you as ‘crazy’, you feel as if you cannot contribute anything meaningful to the world. It’s easy for people to joke and laugh it off when in fact this is a very serious debilitating disease you can die from. According to the World Health Organisation and Cambridge University, people with bipolar disorder have a life expectancy that is shortened by 10 to 15 years on average, and a two-to-three-times higher all-cause mortality rate than the general population. This is on par with severe heart disease, type-1 diabetes, HIV, and cancer – all lethal and fatal if left untreated.

“The scariest thing about this disorder is how persuasive it is when it tells you: You don’t need help. It makes you blind, but convinced you have insight. You feel powerful, certain, and unstoppable.

“I lost touch with reality. Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem. I said and did things I deeply regret. Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst. You endured fear, confusion, humiliation, and the exhaustion of trying to love someone who was, at times, unrecognisable. Looking back, I became detached from my true self.

“In that fractured state, I gravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika, and even sold t-shirts bearing it. One of the difficult aspects of having bipolar type-1 are the disconnected moments – many of which I still cannot recall – that lead to poor judgment and reckless behaviour that [often] feels like an out-of-body experience. I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change. It does not excuse what I did, though. I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.

“To the Black community – which held me down through all of the highs and lows and the darkest of times. The Black community is, unquestionably, the foundation of who I am. I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us.

“In early 2025, I fell into a four-month long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behaviour that destroyed my life. As the situation became increasingly unsustainable, there were times I didn’t want to be here anymore. Having bipolar disorder is not a state of constant mental illness. When you go into the manic episode, you are ill at that point.

“When you are not in an episode, you are completely ‘normal’. And that’s when the wreckage from the illness hits the hardest. Hitting rock bottom a few months ago, my wife encouraged me to finally get help.

“I have found comfort in Reddit forums of all places. Different people speak of being in manic or depressive episodes of a similar nature. I read their stories and realised that I was not alone. It’s not just me who ruins their entire life once a year despite taking meds every day and being told by the so-called best doctors in the world that I am not bipolar, but merely experiencing ‘symptoms of autism’.

“My words as a leader in my community have real global impact and influence. In my mania, I lost complete sight of that. As I find my new baseline and new centre through an effective regime of medication, therapy, exercise and clean living, I have newfound, much-needed clarity. I am pouring my energy into positive, meaningful art: music, clothing, design, and other new ideas to help the world.

“I’m not asking for sympathy, or a free pass, though I aspire to earn your forgiveness. I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding as I find my way home.”

Harry Styles Announces New Album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally

Speculation has been rife for the last few weeks that Harry Styles is planning his musical comeback.

The chart-topping singer has been keeping something of a low profile since his mammoth Love On Tour world jaunt came to an end in 2023, but just after Christmas, he grabbed fans’ attention with the upload of a video called Forever, Forever, including footage of him performing a piano instrumental on stage in Italy.

The video ended with the message “we belong together”, with posters containing this slogan also popping up all over London in the last few weeks.

Following this, it was rumoured that Harry had been voice-noting select fans with snippets of new music, fuelling speculation that new music was on the way.

On Thursday evening, Harry finally confirmed this to be the case, with his fourth album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally coming in mere weeks.

When is the release date for Harry Styles’ new album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally?

So far, little is known about the release other than the fact it was produced by Kid Harpoon, with whom the former One Direction star collaborated on his last album Harry’s House, and it consists of 12 months.

Oh, and it’s coming on 6 March – so there’s not long to wait at all.

Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally is the follow-up to the award-winning singer-songwriter’s 2022 album Harry’s House.

Harry’s House spawned the hit singles As It Was, Late Night Talking and Music For A Sushi Restaurant, and went on to win Album Of The Year at both the Brit Awards and Grammys.

Off the back of Harry’s House, the British star also scooped two additional Grammys for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Non-Classical Album, as well as the Brit Awards for Best British Artist, Song Of The Year and Best British Pop Act.

Since going solo in 2015, Harry has racked up two number one singles, the aforementioned As It Was and his debut release Sign Of The Times, as well as two chart-topping albums.

Barry Manilow To Undergo Surgery After Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Barry Manilow has shared that he has been diagnosed with a form of lung cancer.

In a message to fans shared on Monday afternoon, the Can’t Smile Without You crooner explained that he’d recently been through “six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks”.

As a result of this, his doctor encouraged him to undergo an MRI exam “just to make sure that everything was OK”.

He explained: “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed,” he explained. “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

“The bad news,” he continued, is that he has to undergo surgery to have this cancerous spot removed, although he noted that doctors “do not believe” that the cancer has spread, and he’s to undergo tests to confirm this.

“So, that’s it,” the 82-year-old noted. “No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

Barry then apologised to fans who had been due to see him perform live in January, as these shows have now been rescheduled, but said he hopes to back back performing at what he described at his “home away from home” in Las Vegas by Valentine’s Day weekend.

“Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!” he enthused.

See Barry Manilow’s full statement for yourself here.

The Grammy winner recently completed a run of Christmas concerts, which he was in the middle of when he was informed of his cancer diagnosis.

Next year, he’s scheduled to hit the road for a six-date arena tour of Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Cardiff Birmingham and London, culminating in a show at the O2 Arena, for what he had previously billed as his “Last Last Concerts” in the UK.

As well as a love of music, Chris was a car fanatic, with BBC News pointing out that this inspired many of his songs (not least his signature festive hit).

Over the course of his career, Chris had several hits including 1978’s Fool (If You Think It’s Over), 1987’s Let’s Dance and 1988’s On The Beach, as well as the top 10 The Road To Hell.

He also released 25 studio albums, most recently in 2019, and enjoyed back-to-back number ones in 1989 and 1991 with The Road To Hell and Auberge.

In his lifetime, Chris was nominated three times for the Best British Male prize at the Brit Awards.

In 1994, when he was still in his early 30s, Chris was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, for which he underwent an operation to remove his pancreas, gallbladder and part of his liver. He also suffered a stroke in 2016.

Chris had been married to his wife Joan Lesley since 1968, with the pair sharing two daughters, Josephine and Julia.
