Kim Kardashian Explains Her ‘Issue’ With Walking At The Met Gala, And It All Makes Sense Now

At this year’s bash, the reality star appeared to have trouble walking ― and breathing ― in her custom Maison Margiela Artisanal gown by John Galliano, which Kim basically confirmed in a video with Vogue.

The Skims founder called breathing in her corset “an art form” but said she had a handle on it in the video, released days after the event.

Walking proved to be another “issue,” and for good reason. Kim explained that she wore shoes without a heel to make sure her look stayed intact, though it did make it more of a challenge to get up the Met Gala stairs.

“It’s clever because if I had a shoe with a heel, the heel gets stuck in the metal skirt. And so that was our issue with walking,” the American Horror Story star explained while holding up the acrylic, heel-less platforms for the camera.

“To wear these, you’re on your tiptoes and you’re balancing the whole time flexing your calf muscles,” Kim said. “So that’s what I’m gonna have to do ― is stand on my tippy toes. “I think ballerinas do it, and they probably have a lot of practice. This is our only practice, but we’ll do it.”

“I think we really need the height on this look, so we gotta do what we gotta do,” she added.

Kim was right about the “we”, as she wound up making it up the stairs with the help of two assistants.

If Kim wants to pivot to a more comfortable look next year, she can try Bad Bunny’s black-and-white Bolero shoes, which resembled hooves.

When you think of the Met Gala, a few words spring immediately to mind. Lavish. Decadent. Exclusive. Luxurious.

So, what organisers probably don’t want is for people to see the event and immediately be put in mind of a certain jungle-themed family-friendly restaurant chain that we all briefly loved in the mid-1990s.

On Monday night, the Met Ball was held in New York, with this year’s theme being “The Garden Of Time”.

To help get the stars on the guestlist in the mood, the event was decked out in shrubbery and flowers, with the traditional red carpet being ditched in favour of a green one to match the night’s theme.

However, before the A-listers had even begun making their way into the event, many people over on X (formerly Twitter) couldn’t help but notice that the event was kiiiind of giving Rainforest Café…

Every year, the Met Gala takes place on the first Monday in May with money raised from the event going towards the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute.

Alongside Anna Wintour, this year’s event was co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny, while Ariana Grande was the night’s musical act, performing a string of her own hits as well as a cover of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey’s When You Believe with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo.

Kim Kardashian Reveals Met Gala Diet Led To ‘Really Painful’ Psoriasis Flare-Up

Kim Kardashian has revealed that her dramatic change in diet in order to lose weight for this year’s Met Gala came with “really painful” side effects.

Back in May, the reality star and aspiring barrister received a wave of backlash when she revealed she’d lost 16 pounds in the space of three weeks in order to fit in one of Marilyn Monroe’s most iconic dresses on the Met Ball’s red carpet.

In a new interview with Allure magazine, Kim disclosed that part of the regime included ditching her usual plant-based diet and eating meat, which she said caused her to have a psoriasis flare-up.

“Psoriasis broke out over my body and I got psoriatic arthritis so I couldn’t really move my hands,” she told the magazine.

“It was really painful, and I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid. I was freaking out.”

She added that she’s now “cut out the meat again”, claiming this has led her condition to “calm down”.

Last month, Kim responded to criticism about her weight loss comments, saying: “To me it was like, ‘OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that is acceptable.’ Even Renée Zellweger gained weight for a role. It’s all the same to me.

“I wasn’t saying, ‘Hey everyone, why don’t you go lose this weight in a short period of time?’”

Elaborating on this in her new Allure interview, Kim added: “If I was starving and doing it really unhealthy, I would say that, of course, that’s not a good message.

“But I had a nutritionist, I had a trainer. I have never drunk more water in my life. I don’t see the criticism for other people when they lost weight for roles — they are [considered] geniuses for their craft.

“There are so many things out there that are so not accurate and not true. I think I’ve always just been the underdog.”

Kim’s decision to wear an old dress of Marilyn’s to the Met Gala proved seriously divisive.

Although she switched into a replica gown immediately after the red carpet, she has since been forced to hit back at claims that she damaged the dress by wearing it to the Met Ball.

The dress in question was worn by the Hollywood legend in 1962, when she sang Happy Birthday to US president John F Kennedy.

Blake Lively Tried And Failed To Impress Her Kids With This Iconic Met Gala Look

Blake Lively may have played Serena van der Woodsen, hung out with Karl Lagerfeld, graced the cover of Vogue and co-chaired the 2022 Met Gala — but her kids couldn’t care less.

The Gossip Girl star participated in Vogue’s Life in Looks video series Monday, in which stars take a walk down fashion-memory lane by reminiscing about some of the most stylish looks they’ve worn throughout their careers.

During the video, Blake got especially excited while discussing the Versace gown and Lorraine Schwartz crown she wore to the 2018 Met Gala, and describes it to the magazine as “without a doubt my favourite look of all time.”

But she was also quick to point out that her three young daughters — James, 7, Inez, 5, and Betty, 2 — that she shares with Ryan Reynolds don’t exactly share the same opinion.

“It’s something that when my kids are giving me attitude, I’m like, ‘This is your mom,’ I mean, come on!” Blake said, gesturing to a photo of herself in the stunning dress.

“I try to tell them that I’m real-life royalty and that they’re lucky that I’m raising them.”

Blake then began laughing, and self-deprecatingly added, “They don’t buy it. They don’t believe it.”

Most Of Blake Lively’s Met Gala Looks Share A Satisfying But Overlooked Detail

We wouldn’t expect anything less from the woman who played Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl — a character who not only was fashion forward but also spent a lot of time on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

There has been a certain theory swirling around the internet about Blake Lively’s outfits at the Met Gala over the years — and learning it will further affirm her keen eye for pleasing aesthetics (which was already clear because, well, Ryan Reynolds).

As one Twitter user pointed out Monday night during the 2022 Met Gala, the actor has a tendency to match her outfit to the event’s red carpet.

So, let’s take a look and see if this theory rings true, shall we?

If the coordination is intentional, it’s unclear how Blake could pull it off — though she was a co-host at the 2022 event, which may explain her getting some intel.

According to a piece in Curbed about the history of the gala’s literal red carpet, more work goes into its design than one would think.

Phillip Bland, a decorative artist on Long Island who came into the job seven years ago after working with Anna Wintour on her various homes, is responsible for painting it. And although he’s one of the first people to know the gala’s theme each year, he implied that most celebrities are unaware of his final design.

“My hope is when the final design comes out, it doesn’t clash too much,” the designer says of the stars walking the carpet.

“If someone spent all this money on this beautiful dress and all of a sudden they get out there — I’m sure they don’t know what the carpet is gonna look like.”

Mm-hmm, sure. So we’re starting a new internet theory — that Blake’s got Phillip’s number in her contacts.

The 2022 Met Gala’s “gilded glamour” theme is one that should be all too familiar to Bridgerton stars.

Nicola Coughlan, best known for playing Penelope Featherington on the hit Netflix series, channeled her character with a regal pink-and-black dress with puff sleeves and, most appropriately, *feathers.*

Meanwhile, Simone Ashley, who starred as Kate Sharma in Season 2 of the period series, wowed in a corset and skirt with statement sleeves.

Fans were disappointed, however, when the diamond of Season 1 failed to produce the splendor they’re used to seeing on her in the Regency-era drama. Phoebe Dynevor, aka Daphne Bridgerton, left some onlookers underwhelmed in a relatively muted black dress.

From dramatic puff sleeves to corsets, ruffles, lace floral prints and opulent jewelry, Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novels has been filled with fashion statements.

Fans expected that to align with the theme of 2022′s Met Gala, which asked attendees to “embody the grandeur — and perhaps the dichotomy — of Gilded Age New York.”

The one Bridgerton character who really would have met the brief, sadly, did not make an appearance.

If anyone knows how to steal the show, it’s Blake Lively.

Lively, who’s co-chair of this year’s Met Gala alongside her husband Ryan Reynolds, ignited the red carpet with her arrival on Monday evening.

Donning a copper Atelier Versace gown, Blake and her assistants performed an unexpected switch-a-roo right in the middle of the carpet.

Her bow-embellished dress metamorphosed into an aqua blue showstopper as her assistants helped ‘unwrap’ it on the red carpet.

“I arrived copper and then, like New York City classic architecture, I patinaed,” the actor said of her unveiling.

Resembling iconic New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building, the dress was accessorised with a crown featuring seven spikes in a nod to the Statue of Liberty.

The Gossip Girl star said this year’s event was “especially nerve-wracking.” “Being one of the hosts, you really feel like you need to bring your A-game,” she said.

This year’s Met Gala theme was In America: An Anthology of Fashion, but Blake put her own twist on it by representing New York and focusing on the “architecture rather than just the fashion.”

The actor has dominated the Met Gala red carpet over the years, and she has yet to disappoint.

At the 2018 Gala, themed Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, she sported a crimson Versace gown with an embroidered bodice, an extra-long train and lots of bejeweled action. The entire ensemble took 600 hours to make by hand.

The Met Gala is here for 2022 — the biggest night in fashion— was back again on Monday evening.

Just eight short months after we kinda sorta saw Kim Kardashian in her infamous all-black look at the Met Gala in 2021.

Vogue’s annual fashion extravaganza at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has traditionally taken place during the first Monday in May. But thanks to Covid, last year’s fashion fete got bumped from spring to September. So if you thought you were partaking in the great pandemic tradition of questioning your sense of time, don’t worry. You’re fine.

But if you’re wondering about the theme of Monday night’s event, be prepared to be perplexed once more.

The theme this year was In America: An Anthology of Fashion, which is a sequel to last year’s theme, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. People described the dress code as white-tie with an emphasis on “Gilded Glamour.”

The Gilded Age was a tumultuous period between the Civil War and the turn of the 20th century that was known for robber barons, drama and grandeur. It was also a time of social inequality, in which a small population of elite folks enjoyed oodles of wealth. Think: John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt and J.P. Morgan — and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) and her fabulous, over-the-top hats in HBO’s The Gilded Age.

There weren’t a ton of hats at the 2022 Met Gala, but there were plenty of capes, bodices and dramatic colours, plus a pirate of two (we’re looking at you, Shawn Mendes and Lenny Kravitz) and what appeared to be, uh, gilded pasties (see: Cara Delevingne).

Kim Kardashian’s nod to America of yore was sporting the iconic dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy. The reality star didn’t quite nail Monroe’s signature hairdo, opting instead for a slicked-back look.

Sadly, both Zendaya and Rhianna kept true to their words and didn’t show up.

But, hey, plenty of other celebrities made an appearance in great, not-so-great and completely whacky outfits, so scroll on down and enjoy!

After a year out, the Met Gala was back with a bang on Monday night.

While the annual A-list event is famously held on the first Monday in May, organisers clearly felt that this would simply be too long to make us wait in 2021, so decided to throw together a little something for September.

This year, the event was chaired by singer Billie Eilish, Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet, poet Amanda Gorman and tennis pro Naomi Osaka, with the theme being “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”.

As ever, some of the stars in attendance understood the assignment completely, and others missed the mark somewhat.
