Emma Stone Says It Would Be ‘Nice’ If People Would ‘Just Call Me’ By Her Real Name

Emma Stone would like everyone to finally address her as Emmanuella Gertrude Stonebreaker III, already.

Just kidding! That is by no means her real name — but neither is Emma.

During a joint interview for The Hollywood Reporter with her The Curse co-star Nathan Fielder published on Wednesday, Fielder told the outlet he was going to refer to Stone as “Emily” instead of “Emma”.

Stone has explained in the past that although her birth name is Emily Stone, she had to change it while earning her Screen Actors Guild card because there was already an actor named Emily Stone in the union.

After Fielder declared he’d be using Stone’s real name throughout the interview, the outlet asked if anyone else in the industry calls her by her real name.

“When I get to know them, people that I work with do. It’s just because my name was taken [by another actor in SAG]. Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily’,” she said, noting that Fielder also calls her “Em.”

When THR asked whether she’d like it if a fan called her “Emily,” the Poor Things star gave a resounding yes.

“That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily,” Stone said.

Stone isn’t alone in being somewhat irked by the overuse of their stage name.

Anne Hathaway was born Anne Hathaway, but prefers to be referred to as her nickname, which is Annie.

The Idea of You star explained to Jimmy Fallon in 2021 that she filmed a commercial when she was 14 and needed a SAG card.

“They asked me, ‘What do you want your name to be?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, it should be my name. My name’s Anne Hathaway,’” she said.

“And so that seemed like the right choice, but it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life people would call me Anne.”

She added that everyone in her life calls her Annie — except for her mum, who only uses “Anne” when she’s angry with her.

“Every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they’re gonna yell at me,” she said.

Olivia Colman Had These Three Words To Say About Emma Stone In Poor Things

The film has won over hearts and critics with its ethereal, strange plot and performances from Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo but now, Poor Things has been rated by the most important person of all: Olivia Colman.

Of course, Olivia has worked with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos previously on The Favourite, along with Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz: a film that the British Film Institute rated as one of the best released that year.

Speaking about Olivia, Emma said: “Olivia is like a marshmallow of a human being — like the most warm, gooey, lovey person you know. She’s just an absolute heart of a person.”

So, when it came to her opinion of Poor Things — a very personal project for Emma —, we reckon it was incredibly important to the actress.

Now, in a clip shared on TikTok by production company Searchlight Pictures, we learn exactly how Colman feels.

“You make me want to cry”

In the clip, Olivia starts by telling Emma that she knows compliments are awkward for her and tells her to channel her character from Poor Things and just say “thank you” in response to praise.

Olivia then says: “I think what you did was exquisite, and beautiful and brave.” She adds that everything Emma does always blows her mind but, “this whole thing was creative filmmaking that you just never see that Yorgos did and you were part of that.”

As well as starring in the lead role, Emma was also a producer on the film, and, in fact, her fellow producers stated that the film could not have gone ahead without her.

Continuing in her lavishing praise as Emma was clearly moved, Olivia said, “you go at things, you know, head first, and you blew me away. I do mean that. I can’t lie.”

Emma tearily responded saying: “I love you Colman. I LOVE YA.”

Ah, what a pair.

Emma Stone Reveals Why She Suspects Leonardo DiCaprio Thinks She’s ‘A Little Weird’

While Emma Stone is a Hollywood legend in her own right, it’s good to know she’s as goofy around other big stars as we would be.

The La La Land actor has said she is convinced Leonardo DiCaprio thinks she’s “a little weird” after her behaviour around him.

Emma is a self-confessed Leo super fan, and described meeting the Titanic star when he presented her with her Oscar in 2017 as “the most surreal moment of my life”.

“I was like, I’d seen Titanic seven and a half times in theatres. He was the love of my life,” Emma told SiriusXM’s Jess Cagle

“I had a picture of him in my bedroom that was signed, that I had gotten for my birthday when I was like 12 years old and I was walking to Leo. I was like, this is officially the most surreal moment of my life. I could not believe it.”

Emma, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in La La Land, continued: “I think he probably thinks I’m like a little weird, cause whenever I see him, I’m kind of like, ‘Hey, how’s it going?’ You know, just in little moments when you’re at the same event or something. He’s very sweet though.”

Asked to expand on what Leo is like IRL, Emma continued: “He’s very tall and he’s so lovely.

“It doesn’t really seem fair because then it’s like putting someone in a place that like no human beings should really be in that kind of place,” she said. “That’s silly—like nobody’s any different than anybody.”

However, Emma added that to her, Leo will always be his heartthrob character from Titanic.

“He’s stuck in my head as Jack Dawson. He just always will be,” she said.
