A-level results day has arrived – and, as usual, the internet is full of people either sharing their own accomplishments or sending lengthy commiserations to those who may not have secured the grades they wanted.

Plenty of people share their own stories about receiving their grades as headlines up and down the country reveal the proportion of A or A* grades has fallen from 44.8% at the pandemic peak to 27.2% this year.

That’s hardly a surprise though, as the government had been planning to bring grades back to pre-pandemic levels.

Still, X (formerly known as Twitter) is currently flooded with users (including celebrities) revealing the minimal impact their A-level results had on their own successful lives.

And while it is definitely an important day for those who receive their results, the occasion tends to turn into a competition online.

Jeremy Clarkson, for instance, rolled out his annual tweet reminding everyone that he got a C and 2Us at A-level – and yet he has “loads of friends and a Bentley” and “my own brewery”.

Meanwhile education secretary Gilligan Keegan was also criticised for suggesting employers won’t ask about students’ A-level grades within 10 years of their graduation.

Labour’s shadow education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said she was being “rude and dismissive” and “talking down England’s young people”.

Adele Gets Teary As She Helps Expectant Couple With Mid-Concert Gender Reveal

Adele made a New York couple’s visit to Las Vegas extra special by helping them with a very personal announcement.

Viral footage captured over the weekend shows the 16-time Grammy winner halting a performance of her blockbuster residency, Weekends With Adele, to reveal the sex of Chris Dare and Shantelle Lord’s baby.

The pair – who travelled from Newburgh, New York – attended Adele’s performance at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday bearing a custom-made flag that read: “Adele will you do our gender reveal?”

Once the flag caught Adele’s eye, she tore into a sealed envelope that had been handed to her by the couple, after which she proclaimed: “Shantelle and Chris are having a baby boy!”

After the crowd erupted into applause, Adele became visibly teary before making a request of her own.

“That’s so emotional, oh, my God,” she said, adding: “If and when I get pregnant, will you do my gender reveal?”

Dare uploaded footage of the moment on his TikTok and Instagram accounts and thanked Adele for her assistance.

“POV: Adele did our gender reveal,” he wrote on Instagram. “Adele, you are amazing and we will remember this night for the rest of our lives.”

Adele kicked off the second leg of Weekends With Adele” last month, and has said she plans to commemorate the show with a live concert special.

The singer is the mother of a 10-year-old son, Angelo, whom she shares with ex-husband Simon Konecki. She’s currently in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul, and has been open about her desire to have another child.

Leonard Bernstein’s family has issued a statement responding to the backlash surrounding Bradley Cooper wearing a prosthetic nose to play the Jewish composer in forthcoming biopic Maestro.

The trailer for the Netflix film, which debuted on Tuesday evening, sparked controversy, with many fans criticising the move for supporting antisemitic stereotypes, while others suggested a Jewish actor should have been cast in the role instead.

Actor Tracy-Ann Oberman was among those who commented on social media, writing on Instagram: “If Bradley Cooper green lights your film to play the Jewish composer Bernstein and you want him over a Jewish A-lister who can equally play that role – then let Bradley Cooper’s acting be so magnificent and truthful that the character of Bernstein shines through what he already looks like.”

“If Bradley Cooper can’t do it through the power or acting alone then don’t cast him – get a Jewish actor,” she added.

Leonard Bernstein’s children, Jamie, Alexander, and Nina, have now responded to the backlash in a statement they shared on the Instagram account for their father’s estate.

They wrote: “Bradley Cooper included the three of us along every step of his amazing journey as he made his film about our father.

“We were touched to the core to witness the depth of his commitment, his loving embrace of our father’s music, and the sheer open-hearted joy he brought to his exploration. It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts.

“It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re perfectly fine with that. We’re also certain that our dad would have been fine with it as well.

“Any strident complaints around this issue strike us above all as disingenuous attempts to bring a successful person down a notch ― a practice we observed all too often perpetrated on our own father.”

They continued: “At all times during the making of this film, we could feel the profound respect and yes, the love that Bradley brought to his portrait of Leonard Bernstein and his wife, our mother Felicia.

“We feel so fortunate to have had this experience with Bradley, and we can’t wait for the world to see his creation.”

HuffPost UK has contacted representatives for Netflix and Bradley Cooper for additional comment.

Maestro tells the complex love story between Leonard – who was the conductor and composer behind works such as West Side Story – and Felicia Cohn Montealegre, who is played by Carey Mulligan.

Throughout their romance, which spanned more than 30 years, they had two engagements, a 25-year marriage and three children, as Bernstein tried to come to terms with his sexuality.

Bradley has also written the screenplay, and is serving as a producer and director on the film.

Maestro is set to be released in select cinemas in November, before it begins streaming on Netflix in December.
