‘Kiss My Ass’: David Cameron Gets Short Shrift From Marjorie Taylor Greene After Ukraine Funding Plea

David Cameron has prompted an angry reaction from US Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene after drawing comparisons to the appeasement of Adolf Hitler when urging Congress to approve a multi-billion dollar funding package to Ukraine.

The British foreign secretary on Tuesday made a direct plea to American politicians amid the stalemate over $95.3 billion (£75 billion) of support to Ukraine to help it continue its war against Russia.

But the former prime minister’s lobbying drew a fierce response from Taylor Greene, the controversial member of the House of Representatives from the Donald Trump-supporting MAGA wing of the GOP.

Taylor Greene was confronted by James Matthews of Sky News, who characterised Cameron’s comments as likening her “to an appeaser to Hitler in not voting for funding to Ukraine ”.

“Are you an appeaser for Putin?” the correspondent asked.

“I really don’t care what David Cameron has to say,” she replied. “I think that’s rude name-calling and I don’t appreciate that type of language. David Cameron needs to worry about his own country and frankly he can kiss my ass.”

In an unusual move, Cameron used an article on the Washington DC website The Hill to urge Congress to support Ukraine with more funding.

He said: “I believe our joint history shows the folly of giving in to tyrants in Europe who believe in redrawing boundaries by force.

“I do not want us to show the weakness displayed against Hitler in the 1930s. He came back for more, costing us far more lives to stop his aggression.”

Significantly fewer births on weekends and holidays than weekdays, data analysis of over 21 million births from 1979-2018 in Japan shows

Significantly more babies were born on a weekday instead of weekend day or holiday, reveals a large-scale analysis of 21 million births in Japan over almost four decades published February 14, 2024 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Miho Sassa from the University of Tokyo, Japan, and colleagues.

Medical resources are generally stretched during holidays (including weekends) due to factors like staffing and hospital policies. This may amplify holiday effects: disparities and variations of health outcomes between holidays and weekdays. Dr. Sassa and colleagues studied this holiday effect with a focus on birth, especially high-risk births as measured by babies born preterm and/or with a low birthweight.

The authors used birth certificate data from over 21 million individuals born from 1979-2018 (which included birthday, birthweight, and gestational age) to categorize individuals into five groups: low birthweight (<2,500g), preterm birth (<37 weeks), low birthweight and preterm birth, and full-term birth. For this analysis, the authors compared weekdays (Monday-Friday) with weekend days (Saturday and Sunday), national holidays, substitute holidays, Golden Week (four consecutive spring festival days in Japan April 29 — May 5), and the new year period (December 29 — January 3). Leap days and multiple births were excluded.

They found that all births were significantly less common on weekend or holiday periods versus weekends (p < 0.01). High-risk births became more frequent over the four decades studied, and the trend of non-weekend or holiday births was especially evident for high-risk births, which were found to take place particularly frequently on Thursday and Friday. Though this study doesn’t include data on medical interventions or pregnancies that didn’t end in a live birth, which could potentially impact the findings, its broad scale suggests medical staff may often control births so that they take place before a weekend or holiday, especially for high-risk births. The authors note that this may be prudent since there are often fewer staff or resources available on weekend/holiday days, but since some holiday births are inevitable, it’s critical for hospitals to plan to minimize risks to those mothers who do give birth on non-weekdays.

The authors add: “Delving into decades of birth data in Japan, our research illuminates a fascinating trend — deliveries on holidays, especially those deemed high-risk, show a distinct decline. This discovery prompts a call for innovative solutions and systemic strategies to safeguard maternal and neonatal well-being anytime, demonstrating the need for creative thinking in optimizing medical resources for everyone.”

Vittrup Man crossed over from forager to farmer before being sacrificed in Denmark

Vittrup Man was born along the Scandinavian coast before moving to Denmark, where he was later sacrificed, according to a study published February 14, 2024 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Anders Fischer of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and colleagues.

Vittrup Man is the nickname of a Stone Age skeleton recovered from a peat bog in Northwest Denmark, dating to between 3300-3100 BC. The fragmented nature of the remains, including a smashed skull, indicate that he was killed in a ritualistic sacrifice, a common practice in this region at this time. After a DNA study found Vittrup Man’s genetic signature to be distinct from contemporary, local skeletons, Fischer and colleagues were inspired to combine additional evidence to reconstruct the life history of this Stone Age individual at an unprecedented resolution.

Strontium, carbon and oxygen isotopes from Vittrup Man’s tooth enamel indicate a childhood spent along the coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula. Corroborating this, genetic analysis found a close relationship between Vittrup Man and Mesolithic people from Norway and Sweden. Additional isotope and protein analysis of the teeth and bones indicate a shift in diet from coastal food (marine mammals and fish) in early life to farm food (including sheep or goat) in later life, a transition that happened in the later teen years.

These results suggest that Vittrup Man spent his early years in a northern foraging society before relocating to a farming society in Denmark. It isn’t clear why this individual moved, though the authors suggest he might have been a trader or captive who became integrated into local society. Mysteries remain about Vittrup Man, but this detailed understanding of his geographic and dietary life history provides new insights into interactions between Mesolithic and Neolithic societies in Europe.

The authors add: “To our knowledge, this is the first time that research has been able to map a north European inhabitant’s life history in such a high degree of detail and in such high distance of time.”

Some Pre-Roman humans were buried with dogs, horses and other animals

Some people from an ancient community in what is now northern Italy were interred with animals and animal parts from species such as dogs, horses and pigs. The reasons remain mysterious, but might indicate an enduring companion relationship between these humans and animals, or religious sacrificial practices, according to a study published February 14, 2023 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Zita Laffranchi from the University of Bern, Stefania Zingale from the Institute for Mummy Studies, Eurac Research Bozen, Umberto Tecchiati from the University of Milan, and colleagues.

Of the 161 people buried at Seminario Vescovile, an archaeological site in Verona from 3rd to 1st century BCE, 16 were buried with some kind of animal remains. Some of the graves contained the remains of animals often eaten by people — including many pigs, a chicken and part of a cow — which may have represented food offerings to the dead. But four of the people buried on the site were buried alongside the remains of dogs and/or horses, which are not commonly eaten.

To look for patterns that might explain these animal burials, the researchers analyzed the demographics, diets, genetics and burial conditions of the interred humans and animals, but this did not lead to any notable correlations. In particular, the people interred with animals do not seem to be closely related to each other, which would have suggested that this was a practice of a certain family. The people buried with dogs or horses also varied — they include a baby buried with a complete dog skeleton, a young man buried with parts of a horse, a middle-aged man buried with a small dog and a middle-aged woman buried with an entire horse, multiple other horse parts and a dog skull.

The lack of patterns among these graves mean that multiple interpretations of these human-animal co-burials remain possible, the authors say. For example, animals like dogs and horses often had religious symbolism in ancient cultures — but at the same time, specific individuals may also have been buried with their animal companions. In addition, the authors note, these human-animal burial practices might have been determined by the interplay between different individual traits and societal customs.

The authors add: “This study, which is part of the CELTUDALPS research project (co-financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Province of South Tyrol, and coordinated by Marco Milella of the University of Bern and Albert Zink of the Institute for Mummy Studies, Eurac Research), explores burials of horses and dogs with humans, and may hint at unknown rituals and beliefs during the late centuries BCE in Italy.”

Trump Marks Valentine’s Day By Fundraising Off Of Melania Not Leaving Him

Happy Valentine’s Day! Donald Trump celebrated the occasion by hailing his wife for not leaving him as he faces 91 felony charges ― and then asking for $47.

“Dear Melania, I LOVE YOU!” Trump says in a Valentine’s Day letter to his wife in a Wednesday campaign email. In case it isn’t clear, the email says it three times and shouts in all caps: THIS IS A VALENTINE’S DAY LETTER FROM DONALD J. TRUMP.

OK. MESSAGE DELIVERED.
OK. MESSAGE DELIVERED.

And then, the poetry begins.

“Even after every single INDICTMENT, ARREST, and WITCH HUNT, you never left my side,” gushes the GOP presidential front-runner. “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without your guidance, kindness, and warmth,” Trump continues, with sudden emphasis, “You will always mean the world to me, Melania!”

He signs his love note, “From your husband with love, Donald J. Trump.”

Love is in the air.
Love is in the air.

If this Valentine’s Day letter inspired you to want to “SEND YOUR LOVE” to Melania, the email gives you the option of doing so by clicking on those words, which take you to a page asking for money for Trump’s presidential campaign.

Specifically, it asks for $47 if you think Trump is “the greatest president of all time!”

You can also give 20 bucks and some change if you want to support Trump’s campaign.

Nothing says romance like asking strangers for 47 bucks because you think you're awesome.

What does this have to do with Trump’s love for his wife or Valentine’s Day? If you click on either of those dollar amounts, little hearts appear on the donation boxes for a second.

Melania Trump has been largely missing from the public eye since her husband lost the presidential election in 2020. She hasn’t been on the campaign trail with him and hasn’t joined him at his many court appearances in his criminal trials.

The former First Lady also hasn’t said anything about Trump’s recent loss in court: He was ordered to pay $83.4 million to E. Jean Carroll for defamation after raping her.

My Shroomie Depeche Mode Concert Experience: An Extraordinarily Beautiful Night

On December 1st, 2023, I took some magic mushrooms two hours before a Depeche Mode concert (from their Memento Mori tour).

I created a new 8-minute video to share what that experience was like – deeper, richer, and more beautiful than I’d imagined. I think it’s the best video I’ve made thus far.

My Letter to Depeche Mode

Dearest Depeche Mode,

My intention in writing this is simply to thank you for what your music has meant to me.

I first becoming aware of DM during the 80s (I was born in ’71). I have a fond memory of singing “People Are People” with my classmates to our teacher on a school bus during an 8th grade field trip in 1985. Sitting in L.A. traffic introduced me to many more DM songs, thanks to Richard Blade and KROQ.

I remember having this a-ha moment when I learned that so many cool songs I liked – Just Can’t Get Enough, Get the Balance Right, Everything Counts, Master and Servant, Blasphemous Rumors, and more – were all from the same band. One band made all those incredible tunes???

During my 20s and 30s, I could honestly say that fully half of my music listening was of DM songs. I’ve since broadened my repertoire, but for many years I listened to your songs at least as much as those of all other musicians combined. While I enjoyed many other bands during those years too – New Order, Erasure, Duran Duran, The Cure, REM, and more – nothing else pierced right through me like so many of your songs did. In my early 20s, I reveled in long walks at night under the stars listening to your music on a Walkman cassette player, often while trying to make sense of my life’s strange highs and strange lows.

Of all the music that has made my heart smile, yours has been the most impactful. Even after listening for decades, I’m still discovering new layers of truth in your songs, from the vibes as well as the words.

My favorite song of all time is “Enjoy the Silence.” It’s the most perfect song I’ve ever heard in my life. I never tire of listening to it. It feels like it’s beyond human, on another level entirely.

Listening to your music taught me how to listen with more than just my ears – to myself, to life, to spirit, to truth.

Your music helped to set my soul on fire with sustainable passion and devotion, as I sensed the kind of life that seduced me more deeply than the grabbing hands and their world full of nothing.

Your music put me to the test and invited me to pay the price, to change events, to face the consequences.

You helped me shake the disease of my old brittle life and let it crumble to dust. I had to be torn apart and stripped down to the bone, so I could dream on and discover what was kicking and screaming to be seen, felt, and lived.

You gave me permission to feel, to caress, to love, and to explore my sea of sin to find the halo within. You revealed that the darkness can be both dangerous and wondrous.

And I know this will come as no surprise, but hot damn your music is the best accompaniment for kissing and sex!

I appreciate that even with all the highs and lows of your individual lives, you kept creating music and touring. I feel immensely lucky that my #1 favorite band has had such longevity and endurance. I’ve loved your many solo works as well.

Much love and gratitude to you for your precious role in playing the angel when I most needed it… thank you!

Until we’re all ghosts again, I’ll gladly take more than another river full and keep enjoying your sounds of the universe.

Taylor Swift’s Reaction To Accidentally Clubbing With Her Parents Is All Of Us

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce headed to the club to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ stunning Super Bowl win in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

And with them, they brought two unexpected guests: her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift.

The Blank Space singer hilariously posted a TikTok of the after-party with her parents, captioning the video, “Accidentally going clubbing with your parents is something everyone should try at least once in their life.”

“It’s a friends and family party, they said,” Taylor Swift wrote in text over the video clip, which showed Kelce sticking his tongue out at the camera.

“Bring your parents, they said,” she joked, as Ludacris’ What’s Your Fantasy played in the background and her mom and dad looked at the camera.

The video ended with Swift giving the camera a slight grimace.

Swift and the Chiefs partied at the XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas, according to a Wynn press release shared with HuffPost on Monday, and arrived at around 2:15 am.

Fellow celebrities ― including Miles Teller, Jason Kelce, Brittany Mahomes and Blake Lively ― partied alongside the Super Bowl champs. The Wynn shared that Kelce and Swift stayed out until at least 5:15 am.

During their celebratory night out, the couple sang along to two of Swift’s hit songs, Love Story and You Belong With Me.

Swift will head back to the stage in just a few days, as she heads to Melbourne, Australia, for the next international leg of her Eras Tour.

Just prior to the Super Bowl, the Cruel Summer singer performed four straight nights at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
