Jimmy Carr Says He’s ‘Going Down Swinging’ During Live Gig Following Holocaust Joke Backlash

Jimmy Carr has broken his silence after he faced a huge backlash over a joke he made about the Traveller community and the Holocaust in his Netflix special, His Dark Material.

In a widely-shared clip from the hour-long show, Carr spoke about the horror of the Holocaust and “six million Jewish lives being lost” before making a disparaging remark about the deaths of thousands of Travellers at the hands of the Nazis as a punchline.

Carr has received widespread criticism over the remarks, with calls for Netflix to remove the joke and sparking petitions calling on him to apologise.

On Saturday night, the comedian took to the stage for his stand-up show at the Whitley Bay Playhouse and told the audience he was “going down swinging” and that “the joke that ends my career is already out there.”

According to the Mirror, a heckler at the gig yelled out: “Are we going to talk about the holocaust?”

Jimmy replied: “We are going to talk about cancel culture, the whole thing.

“We are going to talk about fucking everything people. Relax.”

After joking about offending the LGBT community, Jimmy said: “We are speaking my friends in the last chance saloon.

“What I am saying on stage this evening is barely acceptable now. In ten years fucking forget about it.

“You are going to be able to tell your grandchildren about seeing this show tonight.

“You will say I saw a man and he stood on a stage and he made light of serious issues.

“We used to call them jokes and people would laugh.”

He continued: “I am going to get cancelled, that’s the bad news. The good news is I am going down swinging.

“The joke that ends my career it’s already out there. It’s on YouTube, Netflix, or whatever, and it’s fine until one day it fucking isn’t.”

Jimmy’s friend and fellow comedian David Baddiel has spoken out about the Netflix joke in a series of tweets over the weekend.

The comic pointed out the difference between cruel jokes about the Holocaust and ones that target the oppressors.

“I said this every night during my Trolls: Not The Dolls tour as part of a bit arguing that it’s not the subject matter of a joke that counts, it’s the specifics of the individual joke. Clearly, Jimmy Carr’s was the former,” he said.

“Jimmy Carr’s comments, no one can call that, you know, snowflake or wokeishness, that’s just… it was just appalling,” Dorries said during an interview on BBC Breakfast.

Nadia Whittome, Labour MP for Nottingham East, has also urged Netflix to remove Carr’s “vile anti-GRT and antisemitic material”.

Meanwhile, Judge Rinder star Robert Rinder labelled Carr and the audience at his Netflix special who “clapped, whooped and cheered” over the joke, “complete incorrigible turds”.

Robert, who is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, made his feelings clear during a panel discussion about the hour-long special on Talk Radio.

Victoria Coren Mitchell Defends ‘Decent’ Jimmy Carr After Holocaust Joke Backlash

In a widely-shared clip from the hour-long show, Carr joked about the horror of the Holocaust and “six million Jewish lives being lost” before making a disparaging remark about the deaths of thousands of Travellers at the hands of the Nazis as a punchline.

Carr has received widespread criticism over the remarks, with calls for Netflix to remove the joke and sparking petitions calling on him to apologise.

On Saturday evening, Only Connect host Victoria took to Twitter to defend her “close friend”, saying Carr was “a properly decent person”.

“While I’m here, might take a moment to mention I also love @JimmyCarr, a close friend who’s made about a thousand jokes I wouldn’t make myself, as a stage performer, but as a man is full of goodness and kindness,” she said.

When one unimpressed follower asked: “Do you think you would be similarly quick to defend him if he’d made a joke defending the murder of Jews in the Holocaust?”, Victoria responded: “Yes. It’s not about the joke.”

Others pointed the presenter towards comedian David Baddiel’s response to Carr’s comments.

The comedian had pointed out the difference between cruel jokes about the Holocaust and ones that target the oppressors.

“I said this every night during my Trolls: Not The Dolls tour as part of a bit arguing that it’s not the subject matter of a joke that counts, it’s the specifics of the individual joke. Clearly, Jimmy Carr’s was the former,” he said.

David added: “As a footnote, I’d add that Jimmy is a close friend of mine and a brilliant stand-up in general. Makes no difference to how I feel or think about this specific joke.”

Meanwhile, Judge Rinder star Robert Rinder labelled Carr and the audience at his Netflix special who “clapped, whooped and cheered” over the joke, “complete incorrigible turds”.

Robert, who is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, made his feelings clear during a panel discussion about the hour-long special on Talk Radio

In a follow-up tweet posted on Saturday, Robert said the comedian’s comment was “breathtakingly racist” and reiterated his dismay at the audience’s reaction.

Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has also condemned the remarks, suggesting that new laws would hold to account streaming sites from airing jokes.

Robert Rinder Labels Jimmy Carr And Audience At Netflix Special ‘Incorrigible Turds’ For Laughing At ‘Breathtakingly Racist’ Joke

Robert Rinder has labelled Jimmy Carr and the audience at his Netflix special who “clapped, whooped and cheered” over a joke he made about the Traveller community and the Holocaust, as “complete incorrigible turds”.

In a widely-shared clip from the His Dark Material show, Carr joked about the horror of the Holocaust and “six million Jewish lives being lost” before making a disparaging remark about the deaths of thousands of Travellers at the hands of the Nazis as a punchline.

Robert, who is best known as TV’s Judge Rinder and is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, made his feelings clear during a panel discussion about the hour-long special on Talk Radio on Friday.

“I’ve got to say Jimmy Carr, I’m not going to repeat the joke, or anybody in the audience who whooped and clapped at a joke about the genocide of Travellers and gypsies, you are all, complete incorrigible turds,” he said.

In a tweet posted on Saturday, Robert said the comedian’s comment was “breathtakingly racist” and reiterated his dismay at the audience’s reaction.

“Jimmy Carr’s “joke” suggesting the systematic genocide of gypsies during the Holocaust was a “good thing” is breathtakingly racist,” he tweeted.

“The truly disturbing thing isn’t just the gag, it’s that on hearing it, instead of leaving, the audience clapped, whooped and cheered in approval.”

In a second tweet, the former Strictly star said that “middle class comedians can do irony and clever boundary pushing so it’s ‘ok’”.

“Let’s imagine the reaction to this joke had it been filmed at a working men’s club to a cheering whooping audience,” he added.

Carr has received widespread criticism over the remarks, with calls for Netflix to remove the joke and sparking petitions calling on him to apologise.

Roberts tweet came after Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries condemned the remarks during an interview on Saturday’s BBC Breakfast, suggesting that new laws would hold to account streaming sites from airing jokes.

Dorries suggested that in the future, new laws would “hold Netflix to account” for such content.

“We are looking at legislation via the Media Bill which would bring into scope those comments from other video on-demand streaming outlets like Netflix,” she said.

“So it’s interesting that we’re already looking at future legislation to bring into scope those sort of comments.”

The MP said Carr’s comments were “abhorrent and they just shouldn’t be on television”, but it was then put to her that in a tweet in 2017 she had claimed that “left-wing snowflakes are killing comedy”.

She said: “Well, that’s not comedy.

“What Jimmy Carr did last night is not comedy. And you know, I’m no angel on Twitter, nobody is, but I just would like to say that nothing I’ve ever put on Twitter has been harmful or abusive.

“But that last night… Jimmy Carr’s comments, no one can call that, you know, snowflake or wokeishness, that’s just… it was just appalling.”

Nadia Whittome, Labour MP for Nottingham East, has also urged Netflix to remove Carr’s “vile anti-GRT and antisemitic material”.

The Traveller Movement, a charity supporting the traveller community in the UK, said: “This is truly disturbing and goes way beyond humour.”

In a tweet, the charity said: “We need all your support in calling this out #StopTravellerHate @StopFundingHate.”

The charity has launched a petition to Netflix calling for the “removal of the segments of His Dark Material which celebrates the Romani genocide”.

Giovanni Pernice Unveils Tattoo To Mark Strictly Win With Rose Ayling-Ellis

The professional dancer unveiled a new tattoo in celebration of lifting the Glitterball trophy with the EastEnders star last month.

Giovanni shared picture of his latest inking on Instagram over the weekend, which revealed he has had a mirrorball and stars etched on the inside of his wrist.

It is accompanied by the letters ‘SCD’ and the date of last year’s final, which saw him and Rose triumph over John Whaite and Johannes Radebe.

The pair are currently back dancing together on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing live tour, which is travelling to various cities across the UK.

Speaking to Birmingham Mail following the tour’s launch last week, Giovanni revealed how he hopes to keep dancing with Rose once it is over.

“I hope we can find time to dance together away from Strictly. I enjoy spending time with Rose. She is really special,” he said.

“I may be the dance teacher, but I have learnt so much from Rose. Meeting her has changed my life.

“We clicked from the very beginning. We understood each other perfectly. We have such as fantastic connection. She is amazing. So positive and energetic.”

Following their win in December, Giovanni revealed his Strictly victory had been every bit worth the wait, after seven years having not previously won the BBC show since joining in 2015.

A short clip on his Instagram story showed him lying in bed looking longingly while Christina Perri’s romantic ballad A Thousand Years played… only for it to be revealed he had the Glitterball trophy on the pillow next to him.

Janet Street-Porter Launches Fresh Attack On Adele Over ‘Snivelling’ Vegas Residency Apology

The Loose Women panellist branded the Easy On Me star “self-obsessed” and said Adele’s apology to fans after cancelling her shows was “snivelling”, accusing her of treating them “appallingly”.

In an emotional video she posted on Friday, Adele tearfully announced that her show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace “ain’t ready”, just 24 hours before she was due to take to the stage for the first time.

Writing in her column for MailOnline, Janet – who has previously turned on Adele – blasted her, writing: “I don’t know which was more jaw-dropping; Snivelling Adele’s feeble attempts at an apology to the camera with perfect nails on display, addressing us ordinary folk as if we were queuing for a bag of fish and chips (her actual words ‘My show ain’t ready’) – or the bare-faced cheek of coming to that decision just two days before kick-off.

“This carefully stage-managed attempt at sympathy doesn’t seem believable. Anyone might think she’s been studying footage of the Master of Non Apologies Boris Johnson,” she wrote.

“She’s been on a journey from wealthy woman to incredibly rich and self-obsessed global star. That doesn’t grant you the right to treat fans so appallingly, hoping that a snivelling apology will soften the blow.”

Janet added: “She’s got all the staying power of a soggy tissue.”

The former tabloid editor previously branded Adele “deeply shallow” in the lead up to the release of her latest album 30, accusing the star of “fake misery”, having “gushing tears on tap every hour” and speaking about her personal life “to shift product”.

The Weekends With Adele series was announced last November, with the singer scheduled to perform two shows every weekend until April.

Tickets ranged from $85 (£60) to $685 (£500), and Adele was reportedly set to make more than £500,000 per performance.

The residency would have marked the first time Adele had performed live shows in five years.

The 33-year-old singer said she had been “awake for 30 hours” trying to rescue the production, but had simply “run out of time”.

Adele also apologised to fans who had already arrived in Las Vegas for the opening weekend.

“I’m sorry, it’s last minute. I’m so upset and I’m really embarrassed and I’m so sorry to everyone that’s travelled again.”

The residency is set to be rescheduled, with dates announced in due course.

Katie Price Arrested On Suspicion Of Breaching Restraining Order

Katie Price could face jail after she was arrested on suspicion of breaching a restraining order.

Police were called to the Sussex home of the former glamour model, who was known professionally as Jordan, on Friday.

The Sun reported Price, 43, had sent an abusive message to her ex-husband Kieran Hayler and his fiancee, Michelle Penticost.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “At 5.45pm on Friday (January 21) police responded to a report that a suspect had breached their restraining order.

“Officers arrested a woman in her 40s who has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.”

Price was banned from contacting Penticost in 2019 under the terms of a five-year restraining order.

She was fined hundreds of pounds for hurling a foul-mouthed “tirade of abuse” at her during a row in a school playground.

She was driving to visit a nearby friend in Sussex when the crash happened at about 6.20am on September 28.

Her representative has been contacted for comment.

Adele ‘Overwhelmed’ By The ‘Best Fans In The World’ After Postponing Vegas Residency

Adele says she has been “overwhelmed” by the support of “best fans in the world” after being forced to postpone her Las Vegas residency.

The Easy On Me singer tearfully announced that her show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace “ain’t ready”, less than 24 hours before she was due to take to the stage for the first time.

After her emotional video addressing the news made headlines across the globe, Adele acknowledged the “graciousness and love” she had been shown in response to the unfortunate decision.

“I have the best fans in the world!” she wrote on social media.

“Your graciousness and love tonight is overwhelming! Thank you.”

Adele previously explained the show was not ready having been “absolutely destroyed” by delivery delays and coronavirus.

“Half my team have Covid and it’s been impossible to finish the show,” she said.

Rebel Wilson’s Mortifying Emergency Poo Tale Is Giving Us Bridesmaids Flashbacks

That explosive poo scene in Bridesmaids is one of the most memorable in recent(-ish) cinema history, but it’s come to light that something similar actually happened to one of the film’s stars.

Rebel Wilson, who played Brynn in the 2011 comedy, has revealed that life imitated art when she was once caught short out in public shortly after making the movie.

Although Rebel doesn’t feature in the scene in question – when Maya Rudolph’s bride-to-be character and her bridesmaids end up decorating a bridal shop (and the road outside) after a dodgy meal – she can most certainly relate.

The 41-year-old Aussie star has confessed that she once had to take an emergency number two in someone’s front garden whilst out on a hike in LA.

Rebel shared the (very detailed) gory details on the Life Uncut podcast with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne.

“I go on the hike, and it’s hiking uphill, and I was feeling very sluggish after eating, like, probably thousands of calories,” Rebel began.

“I get this instant feeling. I’ve got to go to the toilet, I can’t make it the few streets back to my place… It hit me and it was all inside and it just had to come out.”

“I’m feral,” she continued. “I’m just in leggings, like I don’t look nice, I don’t have any makeup on or whatever. I’d been in the movie Bridesmaids so I was kind of recognised, not a superstar or anything, but I was kind of recognisable.

“I squat in this person’s front yard and then I’m just kind of frozen [thinking] what if somebody sees this… I often get papped there, going on the hike.”

Rebel starred alongside (L-R) Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids.

Explaining that a car then pulled up, Rebel said: “I’m like, they’re going to see me. If they get out of that car they’re going to see me. I’m still squatting on their front lawn.

“It’s so disgusting, I can’t even, my mind goes, if they come and say something I’m just going to scream that ‘I’m pregnant, I’m pregnant’.

“I don’t know why that was my thing. That was just what I was going to say, because you’ve got to say something.”

Luckily the person who pulled up was visiting the house next door.

“So I just pulled up my pants and I left,” Rebel explains, before offering up a belated apology.

“If anyone is listening and owned a house in Los Feliz and was very confused by what had happened and now they understand, just know I’m very, very sorry and it won’t happen again,” she said.

“I hope those nutrients went into the ground.”
