‘Get In, Loser’: The First Trailer For The Long-Awaited Mean Girls Musical Remake Just Dropped

It’s the moment Mean Girls fans have been waiting almost four years for: the first trailer for the musical remake of the classic teen comedy is finally here.

And while plenty of fans might have their doubts about putting a new spin on such a hallowed text, we have to be honest… the whole thing looks totally grool.

Inspired by Tina Fey’s Broadway musical of the same name (which, by the way, is coming to London’s West End in 2024), the film will reintroduce us to the Plastics in the modern era.

Released on Wednesday (were you wearing pink?), the two-minute clip features nods to plenty of moments from the 2004 classic, from Cady eating her lunch alone in the bathroom to her scary Halloween reveal, as well as that legendary Christmas pageant performance.

However, the teaser assures us this is “not your mother’s Mean Girls”. For one thing, social media clearly plays a huge part in this new interpretation of the classic, with both students and faculty passing comment on all the hot gossip on a TikTok-esque app.

Interestingly, no songs from the new film are actually included in the teaser, which is instead accompanied by the sounds of Olivia Rodrigo’s oh-so-Mean-Girls hit Get Him Back.

Spider-Man star Angourie Rice takes the lead as Cady Heron in this new take, while Renée Rapp is set to reprise her role as Regina George, a character she previously played on Broadway.

Bebe Wood and Avantika Vandanapu complete the Plastics, while Auliʻi Cravalho (otherwise known as Disney’s Moana!) portrays Janis opposite Jaquel Spivey’s Damian.

Mean Girls is set to hit cinemas in January 2024.

Over the years, Miriam Margoyles has accumulated an eclectic array of acting roles, including performances in big-name franchises and even a Bafta win. However, what many people might not realise is that she is also a renowned voice actor.

The Call the Midwife star has lent her voice to adverts for brands such as Cadbury, PG Tips and Dolmio in her day, as well as contributing to audiobooks, animated features and even audio porn in the past.

Ahead of Miriam’s long-awaited debut in Doctor Who, where she’s set to voice Meep in the 60th anniversary special episode, we’re looking back at some of the more unexpected places her voice has popped up in over the years…

Back in the mid-90s, Miriam moved into the world of movie voice acting when she played Fly, a sheepdog, in the beloved farmyard classic, Babe.

Based on Dick King-Smith’s book, The Sheep-Pig, the comedy-drama followed a young farm pig who wanted to do the work of a sheepdog.

The wholesome film exceeded expectations and went on to be nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Visual Effects. Miriam also reprised her role in the sequel, Babe: Pig in the City.

Chris Evans Admits One Of His Most Divisive Films ‘Could Have Been Better’

Chris Evans has confessed that his latest film Ghosted “could have been better”.

The Captain America star is aware of the negative reviews of his Apple TV+ romantic action film and addressed these opinions in an interview with GQ, published on Tuesday.

In the film, Chris plays Cole Turner, who falls for Sadie Rhodes – played by Ana de Armas – who turns out to be a secret agent.

The 42-year-old said Ghosted, which was released back in April, felt like a film he grew up watching but he also observed that he doesn’t really see films like that anymore in Hollywood.

He wondered: “And the question is whether or not audiences have outgrown those types of films.”

GQ writer, Zach Baron, asked the star: “Is that a question you had going into it or coming out of it?”.

“Both,” Chris replied. “I didn’t think audiences had outgrown it prior, and I still don’t think they have, despite the fact – I mean, technically I think we did OK, in terms of viewership.”

According to Deadline, Ghosted has become Apple TV+’s most watched film debut.

The actor is mindful that “critics didn’t like it” – on the review website Rotten Tomatoes, 26% of 116 critics’ reviews are positive.

However, Chris believes “that’s more the fault of the movie as opposed to the appetite of the audience”.

He added: “I think the appetite’s there, if it’s done properly. We could have been better.”

In the same interview, Chirs briefly mentions life with wife Alba Baptista.

The pair married at a private estate in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, earlier this month.

‘I Hope They Feel Silly’: Ian McKellen Names The A-Listers Who Turned Down Gandalf Before Him

Sir Ian McKellen has revealed he wasn’t the first actor to be considered for the role of Gandalf in the Lord Of The Rings franchise.

During a new interview with Variety, the award-winning Thespian discusses his new project The Critic, in which he takes the lead opposite Lesley Manville and Gemma Arterton.

However, Sir Ian wasn’t the first actor to be offered the part, taking over in the role after Simon Russell Beale was forced to drop out due to prior commitments.

“I don’t think you’re ever the first choice,” he insisted, before pointing out he “certainly wasn’t the first choice for Gandalf”.

“Tony Hopkins turned it down,” Sir Ian continued, referencing the two-time Oscar-winning star of Silence Of The Lambs. “Sean Connery certainly did.”

He added: “They’re all coming out of the woodwork now, and I hope they feel silly.”

Sean Connery previously claimed he turned down the part of Gandalf because he “never understood” the world of Middle Earth.

“I read the book. I read the script. I saw the movie. I still don’t understand it,” the late James Bond star claimed in 2005.

While Sir Ian might not have been first on the list to play Gandalf, he won huge acclaim for his performance, including one of his only two Oscar nominations for The Fellowship Of The Ring.

The Olivier winner appeared in all three films of Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, before reprising the role of Gandalf in the New Zealand-born director’s adaptations of The Hobbit.

Ryan Gosling Totally Made Ncuti Gatwa Melt While Making Barbie

It looks like even other Kens aren’t immune to Ryan Gosling’s charm.

Actor Ncuti Gatwa talked about his swoon-worthy Barbie co-star while praising his on-set experience in an interview with Elle magazine out last week.

Gatwa, who played one of the many Kens in Barbie, said when he first arrived to shoot the future blockbuster, he “was so nervous I hardly spoke for the first month.”

His nerves certainly didn’t die down after he exchanged looks with Gosling, who played the movie’s main Ken opposite leading Barbie, Margot Robbie.

“There was a time when I was talking to [director Greta Gerwig], and I turned around and Ryan Gosling was looking at me, and his eyes were so blue that I just… fell over,” the Sex Education star told Elle. “I just drowned in his eyes.”

Gatwa said gazing into Gosling’s baby blues was just one of many special moments while making “Barbie,” which he said had “the most kind, empathetic set I’ve ever been on.”

He also did some serious bonding with star Barbie Robbie, who got the cast to attend a Magic Mike show together.

“We played So Solid Crew and all these old-school garage tunes, then we got to Magic Mike and all screamed our faces off at the incredible dancers,” said Gatwa. “Then we all went to [London nightclub] The Box… The group chat the next day was lit.”

In his interview, the new face of Doctor Who also talked about refusing to accept any labels, whether it comes to his sexuality or his fashion choices.

“There doesn’t need to be a label,” Gatwa said. “I believe that fully: that’s why I don’t like to label myself – and I don’t owe it to anyone.”

Gatwa, born in Rwanda and immigrated to Scotland as a child, told Elle about a pivotal moment in his journey, remembering a chance encounter with a Rwandan woman at Manchester Pride several years ago.

“I had never met another queer Rwandan person before,” he said. “I thought I was the only one in the world.”

And while Florence appears in one of the film’s most talked-about scenes, it seems the movie’s director was a little concerned he may have underused the Midsommar actor.

“I didn’t really know what was going on or what it was that was being made, except I knew that Chris really, really wanted me to know that it wasn’t a very big role, and he understands if I don’t want to come near it,” she told MTV UK.

“And I was like, ‘Doesn’t matter. Even if I’m a coffee maker at a café in the back of the room, let’s do it’.”

Florence continued: “I remember he apologised about the size of the role. I was like, ‘Please don’t apologise’.

“And then he said, ‘We’ll send you the script, and honestly, you just read it and decide if it’s like… I completely understand the sizing thing’. And I remember that evening when I got the script being like, ‘I don’t need to… I know I’m going to do it’.”

Bradley Cooper Supported By Anti-Defamation League Amid Debate Over Prosthetic Nose In Maestro

Bradley Cooper has received support from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) amid an ongoing debate about his upcoming film.

Last week, the trailer for Bradley’s latest project Maestro – a Netflix original in which the Oscar nominee portrays the legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein – was released.

However, soon after the teaser was posted online, many took issue with the fact the actor had worn a prosthetic nose to play the late musician, which some critics felt played into anti-Semitic stereotypes, particularly as Bradley himself is not Jewish.

On Monday, the ADL released a statement on the matter to Variety, which read: “Throughout history, Jews were often portrayed in antisemitic films and propaganda as evil caricatures with large, hooked noses.

“This film, which is a biopic on the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein, is not that.”

Bradley previously received support from Bernstein’s family, who released a statement reading: “Bradley Cooper included the three of us along every step of his amazing journey as he made his film about our father.

“We were touched to the core to witness the depth of his commitment, his loving embrace of our father’s music, and the sheer open-hearted joy he brought to his exploration. It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts.

“It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re perfectly fine with that. We’re also certain that our dad would have been fine with it as well.

“Any strident complaints around this issue strike us above all as disingenuous attempts to bring a successful person down a notch ― a practice we observed all too often perpetrated on our own father.”

As well as serving as director, producer and actor in Maestro, Bradley also penned the screenplay, having previously co-written his last directorial effort, the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born.

He is joined in the film by Carey Mulligan, who portrays the actor and activist Felicia Montealegre.

Maestro will receive a limited cinema release in November, before it begins streaming on Netflix on 20 December. Watch the trailer below:

10 Ryan Gosling Moments That Made Us Love The Barbie Star Even More

Can you feel the Kenergy? Thanks to a frankly scene-stealing turn as Barbie’s existential crisis-ridden, beach-loving boyfriend in Greta Gerwig’s billion dollar movie, Ryan Gosling has once again proved that he’s one of the most versatile film stars around right now.

Heartbreaking leading man? Tap-dancing musical performer? Oscar-nominated indie star? A plastic doll who is convinced the patriarchy is all about riding horses (this one probably makes more sense if you’ve seen Barbie, which we implore you to do if you haven’t already)? The man can do it all.

And when it comes to hitting the red carpet, the chat show circuit or awards shows, he never seems to take himself (or his fame) too seriously.

If you’re ever in need of an instant pick-me-up, may I direct you to Alison Hammond’s legendary This Morning interview with Ryan and his Blade Runner 2049 co-star Harrison Ford?

Alison set the tone by admitting she’s never seen the original Blade Runner movie and then describing her interviewing technique as “bleak, dystopian, [and] an absolute nightmare to be honest with you”, before the whole thing got progressively more chaotic, with Ryan pouring out a miniature whiskey, collapsing into giggles and pretending to walk off camera in outrage.

2. When he organised a Ken flashmob for Greta Gerwig’s birthday

What better way to celebrate a milestone birthday and a huge box office success than with a themed flashmob, tbh?

When Barbie director Greta Gerwig turned 40 earlier this month, Ryan marked the occasion by sending a group of dancing Kens to turn up at her Pilates class to throw shapes to his song I’m Just Ken, who were later joined by a squad of Barbies to perform a routine to Dance The Night, another favourite from the film’s soundtrack.

By the end of this extravaganza, which was captured on film and shared on the Barbie movie’s Instagram account, Greta seems to be crying happy tears, and we don’t blame her one bit.

3. When he took his Kenergy to the Barbie red carpet

Any one of Ryan’s red carpet appearances during the Barbie press tour would be deserving of a spot on this list, like when he told reporters how to best channel their Kenergy and reminded them they are, in fact, “Kenough”.

But if we had to pick a favourite, it would be this run-in with reporter Amelia Dimoldenberg, who asked Ryan about the best way to find a Ken of her own. He then advised her to drop something, suggesting that a true Ken will pick it up before quickly moving on so as not to invade your space – which inevitably lead to Amelia dropping her notecards.

Proving he’s a true Ken at heart, he picked them up, saying: ‘Here, you dropped this’, before walking off.

4. When he paid tribute to Eva Mendes in his Golden Globes speech…

After picking up the Golden Globe trophy for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role in La La Land back in 2017, Ryan used his winner’s speech to shout out his partner Eva Mendes.

“I’d like to try and thank one person properly, and to say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” he said. “If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today.”

5. And at the Barbie premiere

OK, we said we’d only pick one Barbie red carpet moment, but this one is too sweet to skip over.

Ryan and Eva rarely attend high-profile events together, but at the film’s LA premiere, he found a way to pay tribute to his wife through his outfit, accessorising his pink suit with a chain necklace featuring a letter ‘E’ pendant (in the iconic Barbie font, of course).

To be perfectly honest, sometimes the celebrity chat show circuit can get a little bit boring, with the same old backslapping between the host and the guests, the same softball questions and the same old relatable anecdotes being trotted out again and again. So when a star decides to do something a little bit different with their ten minutes on the chat show sofa, we’re all for it, like when Ryan decided to bring his dog George along to film an appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show back in 2011.

“He’s more interesting than I am, so I just thought it would be helpful,” he said at the time.

We’ve seen Ryan’s love of dogs. So now it’s time to appreciate… Ryan stepping in to mediate between some puppies.

When he and Barbie co-star Margot Robbie sat down to film a Q&A with Buzzfeed, accompanied by a gang of extremely tiny, extremely adorable puppies, Ryan ended up getting sidetracked when he noticed that one dog in particular kept getting caught up in scraps with his fellow dogs.

Seeing Ryan very politely remonstrating with the puppy in question, calling him “my dude”, is something we didn’t know we needed.

Back in the day, Ryan was an all-singing, all-dancing, metallic Hammer-pants wearing child star – a fact that talk show hosts just love to remind him of, as it gives them a good excuse to pull some video evidence from the archive.

And so during a 2017 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Ryan was a pretty good sport when Graham’s producers dug out a clip showing him dancing to Cathy Dennis’s Touch Me, the only male performer in an otherwise all-girl troupe.

“They let me dance there for free because I was a guy, because if you had a guy, you would win,” he explained.

How old was he at the time of the performance? “Old enough to know better,” he sighed.

We’d heard him sing on The Mickey Mouse Club as a kid, and during his role as jazz pianist Sebastian in La La Land, but surely Ryan’s most groundbreaking contribution to the world of music came when he recorded I’m Just Ken.

The simultaneously hysterical and heartbreaking 80s-stye power ballad that crops up during the third act of the Barbie movie, and features the immortal rhyming couplet “I’m just Ken / Anywhere else I’d be a 10”, capturing the pathos of being Barbie’s essentially superfluous boyfriend.

We don’t know whether to laugh or cry when we hear it – although seeing Ryan emoting while wearing that ridiculous fur coat and headband combo nudges us towards the former.

Ryan proves his low-key comedy genius in this Saturday Night Live sketch, in which he plays a man tortured by a great cinematic mystery of the modern age: why did Avatar director James Cameron use Papyrus font for the logo of his multi-billion dollar movie?

“He just highlighted Avatar, he clicked the drop-down menu and then he just randomly selected Papyrus, like a thoughtless child,” Ryan’s character tells his therapist (played by his future Barbie co-star Kate McKinnon) as he tries to get to the heart of his obsession. “Was it laziness, was it cruelty?” he asks, pondering Cameron’s motivation, before exploding into an Oscar clip-worthy meltdown when a well-meaning friend tells him that the film’s team “clearly modified” the original typeface.

“Whatever they did, it wasn’t enough,” he fumes. There’s also shades of self-pitying I’m Just Ken-energy at play here, which just makes it funnier.
