Regé-Jean Page Responds To Bridgerton Return Rumours

Regé-Jean Page has shut down reports he is set to reprise his role as the Duke Of Hastings in the third series of Bridgerton.

The actor played one of the romantic leads in the first series of the hit Netflix period drama, but did not return for the second, which was released earlier this year.

Reports recently claimed that he was in talks about reuniting with co-star Phoebe Dynevor, who plays his wife Daphne Bridgerton, in the next set of episodes.

However, those holding out hope of seeing Regé-Jean back in action as Simon Basset will be disappointed as he has said there is no truth to the rumours.

After hanging out with former co-star Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, at Milan Fashion Week, Regé-Jean posted some snaps on Instagram, writing: “The boys are back in town (No, I’m not going back to the show btw – the papers made that one up.)

“But we had the best, and most stylish, catch up I’ve had in a while over some truly excellent Italian coffee and sunshine.”

Last month, it was revealed the love story between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) will take centre stage in Bridgerton’s forthcoming series.

This is a deviation from the order of the original books, as the third instalment in the Bridgerton novel series by Julia Quinn focuses on Benedict Bridgerton’s romance with Sophie Beckett.

Explaining the change in an interview with Variety, new showrunner Jess Brownell said: “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since season one, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people,” she said.

“I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realising that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there.

“Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”

The third season of Bridgerton will also see one of the Bridgerton family getting a whole new face, as one of the characters has been recast with a new actor.

Both seasons of Bridgerton are now available to watch on Netflix.

Met Gala 2022: The Bridgerton Cast Members Who Understood The Assignment

The 2022 Met Gala’s “gilded glamour” theme is one that should be all too familiar to Bridgerton stars.

Nicola Coughlan, best known for playing Penelope Featherington on the hit Netflix series, channeled her character with a regal pink-and-black dress with puff sleeves and, most appropriately, *feathers.*

Meanwhile, Simone Ashley, who starred as Kate Sharma in Season 2 of the period series, wowed in a corset and skirt with statement sleeves.

Fans were disappointed, however, when the diamond of Season 1 failed to produce the splendor they’re used to seeing on her in the Regency-era drama. Phoebe Dynevor, aka Daphne Bridgerton, left some onlookers underwhelmed in a relatively muted black dress.

From dramatic puff sleeves to corsets, ruffles, lace floral prints and opulent jewelry, Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novels has been filled with fashion statements.

Fans expected that to align with the theme of 2022′s Met Gala, which asked attendees to “embody the grandeur — and perhaps the dichotomy — of Gilded Age New York.”

The one Bridgerton character who really would have met the brief, sadly, did not make an appearance.

Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan Explains ‘Devastating’ Reason For Reduced Role In Derry Girls Series 3

Nicola Coughlan has revealed her devastation at the fact appearing in Bridgerton has meant she had to accept a reduced role in the final series of Derry Girls.

The actor has played Clare in the hit Channel 4 sitcom since its debut in 2019, and has since found international fame playing Penelope Featherington in Netflix’s prestige period drama.

Nicola will be seen in the third and final season of Derry Girls when it airs in the coming months, but she has explained fans will see a lot less of her in the show owing to scheduling conflicts and filming delays caused by the pandemic.

Speaking at a press event for Bridgerton’s second season earlier this week, Nicola said (via Digital Spy): “Last year was really difficult. I won’t lie because, you know, at the best of times trying to manage different projects, it’s such a push and pull.

“We were meant to film Derry Girls in January 2021. And I was totally free and they decided to push it again. And that caused me insane stress because I was on [what] in the industry is called first call. So it means you have to go and do the show that you’re on first call to, which was Bridgerton.

“And I was like ‘Guys, can we just film it?’ And they were like, ‘No, we’re gonna wait.’ And I was like, ‘oh’, so [we had to make] compromises happen in the script of Derry Girls. It was devastating to me because I wanted to be in all of this. But compromises had to be made.

“And you know, they had to cut down my role somewhat, which was hard. Really, really hard. But I think, you know, the fans of the show are going to be happy. I think it’s a really nice sign-off for the show.”

Derry Girls fans were left gutted last year when it was confirmed that the forthcoming season would also be its last.

In a statement, creator Lisa McGee said it was “always the plan to say goodbye” after three series.

She added: “Who knows if Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle and James will return in some other guise someday, but for now this is it for us and we’re excited to start filming this series with our incredible cast and crew to hopefully take our loyal fans on one last adventure.”

As well as winning huge critical acclaim, Derry Girls has pulled in massive viewing figures, becoming the most-watched TV series in North Ireland since modern records began in 2002.

A trailer for the third season debuted earlier this month, and while no air date has yet been revealed, Channel 4 has promised the show is “coming soon”.

Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan Reveals Season One Twist Almost Played Out Very Differently

Warning: This article contains massive spoilers for the first season of Bridgerton.

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has revealed that her character’s epic twist in the first season finale almost played out very differently.

The Irish star plays Penelope Featherington in the much-loved period drama, a character who is unveiled as the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown at the end of the Netflix show’s first run.

With the cast now gearing up for the release of Bridgerton’s second series, Nicola has admitted that producers had initially wanted to keep Penelope’s secret under wraps for a bit longer before spilling the beans to viewers.

“They had changed back and forward a few times,” she told cast members Simone Ashley, Jonathan Bailey and Charithra Chandran during Netflix’s Tudum event.

Nicola went on to say that bosses initially wanted to end the series with a “red herring”, pointing towards Cressida Cowper as Lady Whistledown’s true identity rather than Penelope, before eventually settling on the current ending.

However, it turns out that unmasking Penelope early on in Bridgerton’s run has worked out well for the character in the forthcoming series.

Nicola added: “How do I say this without being a spoiler? It’s very satisfying, what happens with Penelope, in season two.”

Nicola Coughlan And Kim Kardashian’s Bridgerton Love-In On Twitter Has Warmed Our Hearts

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan could not control her excitement after finding out Kim Kardashian was a fan of her’s – and it appears the feeling was very much mutual.

The pair shared a Twitter love-in after the actor revealed the Kardashians were a source of inspiration for her on the set of the hit Netflix period drama.

On Tuesday, Nicola tweeted: “As the world’s number one @bridgerton Stan does @KimKardashian know that the Kardashians were a massive inspiration for the Featheringtons and we talked about them all the time during our fittings? Because I feel like she should know this.”

And sure enough, it wasn’t long before Nicola’s tweet caught Kim’s attention, and her mind was blown.

“WHAT?!?! I am freaking out!!!!!!” Kim wrote. “This tweet was sent to me on my @bridgerton group chat! Can I please come to a fitting?!?! It would make my whole life!!!!!! I love you Lady W!!!”

Nicola. whose Bridgerton character Penelope Featherington was revealed to be the mysterious Lady Whistledown, replied: “Omg yesss of course we would love to have you!

“Also did you know that Mr Pearl made your corset for the Met Gala and the very next one he made was mine for Bridgerton? You’ve been part of the Bridgerton world for longer than you know.”

Kim then tweeted: “OMG I’m gonna faint!!!!!! Does this make me an honorary Duchess in Bridgerton ?!?!?!? I am the corset Queen!!!”

Nicola then gave her the ultimate honour, tweeting: “Why of course, Duchess Kardashian of Calabasas! Lady Whistledown is happy to declare you the season’s true incomparable.”

“I will wear this title proudly and not let you down Lady Whistledown!” Kim insisted.

Speaking to her followers, who were living for the exchange as much as she was, Nicola tweeted: “You know I’ve loved Kim for like over a decade, I can’t even deal.”

There’s a real possibility of Kim’s dreams coming true too, as earlier this month, it was confirmed that a third and fourth series of Bridgerton have now been commissioned, on top of a previously-announced second season.

Jonathan Bailey’s character Anthony Bridgerton will take centre stage in the second series, with Sex Education star Simone Ashley joining the cast as Kate, a new love interest for him.

However, it has been confirmed that Regé-Jean Page will not be appearing in the second series as the Duke Of Hastings, which did not go down well with fans.

The show’s producer Shonda Rhimes has since spoken out to deny reports that Regé-Jean turned down an offer to appear in another series

Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix now.
