This year’s star-studded Grammys guestlist allowed for plenty of iconic interactions, but when it comes to A-list meetings, they don’t come any bigger than Meryl Streep and Beyoncé.

Meryl was one of the guest presenters at the biggest night in music on Sunday, where she presented Record Of The Year with her son-in-law Mark Ronson, while Beyoncé was in attendance to support her husband Jay-Z on the night of his Global Impact Award win.

During the ceremony, the two-time Oscar winner paid a quick visit to Bey’s table, where it’s fair to say the Mamma Mia! actor looked like she was engaged in some very enthusiastic chat.

After being shared on the Grammys’ social pages, the photo of Meryl and Beyoncé’s meeting quickly began doing the rounds online, where fans began imagining exactly how things went down between the pair in their conversation:

Beyoncé is truly one of one, and she proved it by giving actor Tia Mowry a perfect off-the-cuff shoutout at her star-studded birthday celebration during her Renaissance World Tour.

Countless celebrities flocked to celebrate the pop star’s birthday at Monday’s show at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. But Queen Bey couldn’t help but gush after noticing the Sister, Sister star in the crowd.

After the Grammy winner spotted Tia in the audience while performing her 2011 song 1+1, Beyoncé decided to usher in some nostalgic vibes, spontaneously switching up the song to incorporate lyrics from the early ’90s single Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!.

More than two decades ago, Tia and her twin sister, Tamera, were part of a singing group called Voices, with Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! as their first single.

The 1992 song charted at No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyoncé’s connection to the Mowry sisters goes way back.

The trio previously crossed paths when Tahj Mowry, Tia and Tamera’s younger brother, starred in the ’90s Disney Channel sitcom Smart Guy.

In the 1998 episode A Date With Destiny, the singing group Destiny’s Child — which at that time included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson at the time — made a guest appearance on the show. The Grammy-winning group also performed alongside Tahj in a music video for their song No, No, No.

On Tuesday, Tia Mowry posted about the heartfelt gesture on Instagram, sharing that she was “so touched” and “can’t believe that it truly happened.”

“You can truly see how amazing and detailed an artist she is, and how much thought and love was put into this show,” she added.

Beyoncé Pays $100,000 To Keep D.C. Metro Open Late After Concert Weather Delay

After a severe storm thwarted her Renaissance World Tour stop on Sunday night, Beyoncé and her team shelled out $100,000 (around £78,344) to make sure the Beyhive made it home safely.

The singer’s tour paid to keep all 98 Metro stations in the Washington, D.C., area open for an extra hour after the show at the outdoor FedExField was delayed due to heavy rain and lightning, a news release from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said.

“Due to inclement weather that may delay the start of tonight’s Renaissance World Tour at FedExField, Metro will extend the last train by an extra hour beyond the extended closing previously announced,” the transit authority said in a statement.

“The additional hour will be funded by the Tour to cover the $100,000 cost to run more trains, keep all 98 stations open for customers to exit, and other operational expenses,” it added.

The thoughtful gesture came hours after fans had to take cover as a precaution because of the storm.

“Due to lightning in the area, we are currently under a shelter in place order,” the stadium wrote in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Fans outside of gates and in the parking lots are asked to return to their cars. All fans inside of the stadium are asked to shelter in place under covered concourse areas and ramps until further notice.”

FedExField issued the shelter-in-place warning on social media at 6:40 p.m. The 29-time Grammy winner usually hits the stage just before 9 p.m. local time for her headlining set.

While fans waited for the advisory to pass, several people were treated for heat exhaustion and one person was hospitalized, ABC affiliate WJLA reported.

CNN reporter Abby Phillip, who attended the crowded venue that night, said “no one seemed to really know what the plan should be”, which caused a “chaotic” scene inside the stadium.

“It was very uncomfortable…I mean it was pouring rain for a while and there was lightning in the air, so they didn’t want to let to let anyone in and obviously the concert wasn’t going to start, but it was really chaotic and I think that was kind of the experience that I and so many other people had…the chaos and the crowd and the rain and the heat,” Phillip said.

“It was one of those moments where it was a great concert, but that experience was a little bit scary,” Phillip added.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted after fans waited around for nearly two hours, and ticket holders were cleared to return to their seats around 8:25 p.m., according to another post from FedExField.

Bey eventually kicked things off around 10 p.m. as she performed amid the continued rain, according to Setlist.fm.

The star’s Renaissance World Tour is slated to wrap up in September.

Beyoncé avoided an onstage wardrobe malfunction this week thanks to a smooth move from one of her dancers on the Renaissance World Tour.

Queen Bey, during a concert in Hamburg, Germany, on Wednesday, was on the verge of bringing her Break My Soul performance to a close when her shiny red dress seemed to slip.

One of her dancers with the Les Twins — a dance duo made up of Larry and Laurent Bourgeois — appeared to spot the near slip as he moved in to cover Bey from the audience’s view.

He went on to grab the singer’s hand and bring it to her dress before dancing aside, as Beyoncé confidently closed out the song.

Members of the Beyhive praised the move, saying the dancer exhibited “KING BEHAVIOR” on stage.

Bey looks to continue the Renaissance World Tour in Germany on Saturday before heading to Poland. She’s then set to travel back across the pond to North America.

Even The Pope Has Lost His Twitter Blue Tick

Pope Francis, Cristiano Ronaldo and Beyonce are among the first big-name casualties as Twitter removed the “blue tick” from legacy verified accounts.

Twitter Verified tweeted that legacy checkmarks would be removed from the site on April 20, with the main way of getting a blue tick being to sign up for Twitter Blue, which includes an £8 monthly fee for those based in the UK.

The legacy checkmarks began disappearing towards the tail end of Thursday.

Some of the biggest accounts losing their ticks include former president Donald Trump, as well as the official Twitter page for the Pope.

Some legacy accounts seemed to retain their ticks if linked to a verified organisation, including Barack Obama’s personal page.

Elon Musk had promised to take away all of Twitter’s blue check marks doled out to Hollywood stars, professional athletes, business leaders, authors and journalists unless they start buying a monthly subscription to the social media service.

Musk’s goal was to shove the advertising-dependent platform he bought for $44 billion last year into a pay-to-play model.

Twitter Verified Organisations enables bodies of “all types”, including businesses, non-profits and government institutions, to sign up and manage their verification and to affiliate and verify any related account. But it costs a base price of £950 a month.

Beyoncé’s Father Nails Why Everyone Should See Her Live: ‘She Walks Away Drained’

If you needed any more persuading (really?) to see Beyoncé on her forthcoming Renaissance World Tour, then take heed from her father and former manager.

The Crazy In Love singer announced she would be returning to the stage earlier this week and immediately sent ticketing sites (and fans) into meltdown when the pre-sale tickets went live.

Ahead of her first world tour in seven years, Mathew Knowles was in London to talk to the next generation of performers about what he learned from managing the R&B group Destiny’s Child, which made Beyoncé famous.

“I’m so proud (of Beyoncé) because…I know all the work she puts into it and I know all the creativity that she puts into it,” he told ITV News.

“She gives back to her audience and (both the) audience and her walk away drained, because she’s given them so much energy to take back with them.

“She’s one of the best entertainers in our time today. She cares about her fans, she works hard to connect with them and practice and practice and practice and dare to be different, dare to think outside of the box and not be a box in thinker as an artist.”

His other daughter, Solange Knowles, was a back-up dancer in Destiny’s Child and is also a successful musician in her own right and won a Grammy in 2017 for best R&B performance for the single Cranes In The Sky.

Matthew added: “One thing that I love about my kids is that they are good people, they would say hello to the janitor, the same way they would say hello to the president.”

Named after Beyoncé’s latest No.1 album of the same name, the Renaissance World Tour kicks off on 10 May in Stockholm before visiting stadiums in Europe and the UK over spring and summer.

In the UK, she performs first at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 17 May, before moving to Edinburgh’s Murrayfield on 20 May and Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 23 May.

She will then play two nights at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 29-30 May.

Beyoncé’s seventh studio album saw her go in another musical direction by incorporating house music, disco and dancefloor-focused Afrobeats.

The album was a commercial and critical success, topping the charts in both the UK and US and has been nominated for a string of awards.

She will go head to head with Adele at the Grammy Awards this Sunday, after they were both nominated in the album of the year category for Renaissance and 30 respectively.

They last competed for the prize in 2017 when it went to Adele.

She is also nominated for a Brit in the International Artist of the Year category, along with Taylor Swift and Lizzo.

Beyoncé Performs With Daughter Blue Ivy In Dazzling Dubai Comeback Gig

Beyoncé returned to the stage for her first headline show in over four years on Saturday night, performing at a private hotel launch event in Dubai.

The music icon was rumoured to have been paid £19.4million ($24m) for the exclusive concert at the grand reveal of Atlantis The Royal – billed as the world’s most ultra-luxury resort.

The singer was joined by her 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy on stage at one point, with the pair duetting on Brown Skin Girl from the 2019 album, The Lion King: The Gift.

Blue Ivy has performed with her mum in pre-recorded situations, but this marked her debut performance on a public stage.

Opening her 90-minute set with her cover of Etta James’s At Last, Beyoncé wowed the 1,500-strong crowd with fan favourites such as Crazy In Love, Naughty Girl, Halo and XO – culminating with a rendition of Drunk In Love as fireworks lit up the sky.

Taking to the stage in a yellow sequinned gown with a sculptural feathered cape, the 41-year-old was flanked by a full band, a Middle Eastern orchestra and dancers clad in red sequinned outfits and full skirts.

The singer chose not to debut any tracks from latest album Renaissance, which is nominated for two Grammys.

“There’s a Utopia of people from all over the world on this stage and we are so honoured to be here to celebrate this night with you,” Beyoncé said.

“My parents are here tonight to celebrate – my mother and my father. My beautiful children are here to see me perform and my beautiful husband.”

She later changed into a red and gold bejewelled body suit with a voluminous train and completed a third costume change with a red corseted minidress with matching stockings and gloves.

There was a strict “no phones” policy, with attendees asked to place their mobiles inside specially provided bags, but that didn’t stop some VIP guests from still managing to record parts of the show.

The exclusive concert was attended by celebrities including Kendall Jenner, Liam Payne, Ronan Keating, Rochelle and Marvin Humes and British Vogue editor Edward Enninful.

“We’ve given her creative control. This is her art – we want her to express her art in her way,” managing director Tim Kelly told the PA news agency ahead of the performance.

“I can’t express to you enough the level of professionalism and discipline with the rehearsals.

“From the moment she arrived last week she was on the stage, rehearsing and performing, and she’s developing and curating a performance.

“She’s not taking a show out of the box because she doesn’t have a show in the box. You’re going to get the full-throttle Beyonce.”

Asked if it was difficult to secure the global pop star for the launch, Mr Kelly said: “It took a long time, but it also came together rather quickly.

“It’s a circumstance of where she chooses what she wants to do. We’re honoured, we’re proud and for her to be here to do this in Dubai on this night, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“We have always expressed that this is an iconic building, and then to have the most iconic performer on the planet available today, someone who hasn’t been seen in public performing in over four years, it’s really a night of icons.”

Beyoncé To Remove Ableist Slur From Song Heated Following Criticism

Beyoncé will remove an ableist slur from a track on her latest album following a backlash, a representative for the star has confirmed.

The singer faced criticism from disability charities for using an offensive term in her song Heated, which was co-written by Drake and features on her seventh studio album Renaissance, released on Friday.

The term is colloquially used to describe moving in an awkward or clumsy way and is deemed very offensive towards disabled people.

In a statement issued to Insider, a spokesperson for Beyoncé confirmed the lyric will now be changed.

“The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced,” they said.

Disability equality charity Scope spoke out against Beyoncé’s use of the word, less than a month after it did the same when Lizzo used the same derogatory term on her recent track Grrrls.

The charity’s media manager, Warren Kirwan, said: “It’s appalling that one of the world’s biggest stars has chosen to include this deeply offensive term.

“Just weeks ago, Lizzo received a huge backlash from fans who felt hurt and let down after she used the same abhorrent language.

“Thankfully she did the right thing and re-recorded the song. It’s hard to believe that could have gone unnoticed by Beyonce’s team.

“Words matter because they reinforce the negative attitudes disabled people face every day, and which impact on every aspect of disabled people’s lives.

“Beyonce has long been a champion of inclusivity and equality, so we’d urge her to remove this offensive lyric.”

Last month, fellow singer Lizzo said she had listened to feedback, apologised for using the slur in her track and recorded a new version without it.

“As a fat Black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally),” she said.

“As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world.”

Beyoncé has confirmed she’ll remove a derogatory slur that features in one of the songs on her much-anticipated album, Renaissance.

On the track Heated, which was co-written with Drake, the pop star can be heard singing an ableist and offensive term: “S**zzin’ on that ass, s**z on that ass. Fan me quick, girl, I need my glass.”

It comes just months after singer Lizzo made headlines for using the same derogatory term in a song. Following an uproar, Lizzo listened to feedback, apologised for using it and recorded a new version without it.

Charities championing disabled people called on Beyoncé to edit the lyrics and record a new version.

The term ‘s**z out’ is colloquially used to describe moving in an awkward or clumsy way and is deemed very offensive towards disabled people.

The term derives from the word ‘spastic’ and is particularly hurtful to those who actually experience spasms, which can be incredibly painful and disruptive to daily life, as Imani Barbarin, who has spastic diplegia (a form of cerebral palsy), explains below.

Words matter. Research by disability equality charity Scope found 72% of disabled people have experienced negative attitudes or behaviour in the last five years – with nine in 10 of these saying it had a negative effect on their daily lives.

Hannah Diviney, from Sydney, was one of the first people to call Lizzo out for her use of the word in a song.

The disability advocate and writer said the same mistake by Beyoncé – who is arguably one of the most famous people on the planet and a role model to many – “feels like a slap in the face to me, the disabled community and the progress we tried to make with Lizzo”.

“Guess I’ll just keep telling the whole industry to ‘do better’ until ableist slurs disappear from music,” she tweeted.

In a piece published on Hireup, Diviney wrote: “It’s not very often that I don’t know what to say, rendered speechless by ignorance, sadness and a simmering anger born of bone-deep exhaustion. But that’s how I feel right now.”

She continued: “Beyoncé’s commitment to storytelling musically and visually is unparalleled, as is her power to have the world paying attention to the narratives, struggles and nuanced lived experience of being a black woman – a world I can only ever understand as an ally, and have no desire to overshadow.

“But that doesn’t excuse her use of ableist language – language that gets used and ignored all too often.”

Fans agree that it’s not about getting artists like Beyoncé and Lizzo cancelled, more about educating that the words they use matter.

Journalist and author of Crippled, Frances Ryan, said it was “very hard to believe” neither Beyoncé nor anyone in her team didn’t recognise the ableist slur when Lizzo made the same mistake a month ago “and graciously corrected it”.

Krystal-Bella Shaw, writer and founder of Dyspraxia magazine, branded it “disappointing”.

“Beyoncé has no excuse for using the word sp*z in her new song. Considering how public Lizzo went for the use in her song and for her removing it… this is disappointing,” she tweeted. “Why are disabled people constantly having to fight for ableist slurs to stop being used?”

Charities supporting disabled people also condemned the use of the term.

Ahead of Beyoncé’s statement that she’ll remove the lyric, Bethany Bale, policy and campaigns officer at Disability Rights UK, told HuffPost UK: “Ableist slurs are unacceptable in any context, especially in 2022 when many artists have already publicly learnt from past mistakes and educated others on the power of derogatory language in the process.

“It’s disappointing to see Beyoncé using an ableist slur so soon after Lizzo’s new single ‘Grrrls’ highlighted the hurt this language causes the Disabled community and others.

“We hope that, like Lizzo, Beyoncé will educate herself on the meaning and history behind this language and decide to edit her lyrics.”

Warren Kirwan, media manager at Scope, said it was “appalling” that ”one of the world’s biggest stars has chosen to include this deeply offensive term”. Like Ryan, he said it’s hard to believe that could have gone unnoticed by Beyoncé’s team.

“Words matter because they reinforce the negative attitudes disabled people face every day, and which impact on every aspect of disabled people’s lives,” Kirwan told HuffPost UK.

“Beyoncé has long been a champion of inclusivity and equality, so we’d urge her to remove this offensive lyric.”

In a statement to Insider, a representative for the Grammy award-winning singer confirmed the lyric will be changed.

“The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced,” the statement said.

Let’s hope that’s the last time a global superstar sings it.

On Thursday morning, the music legend announced her seventh album Renaissance (subtitled “Act I” on her official website) would be coming on 29 July.

Needless to say, the stir quickly caused a huge stir on social media, with Beyoncé and Renaissance both quickly rising up the list of global trending topics on Twitter.
