These 2 Hits From The 80s Are Surging Back Into The Charts Thanks To Monsters

The second instalment of Ryan Murphy’s polarising true crime series centres around Erik and Lyle Menéndez, the brothers who are currently serving life sentences for the murder of their parents in the late 1980s.

On Friday afternoon, the Official Charts Company confirmed that a surge in streams to Milli Vanilli’s I’m Gonna Miss You and Crowded House’s Don’t Dream It’s Over had led to them both re-entering the top 40 this week.

Don’t Dream It’s Over is currently at 37, while I’m Gonna Miss You is at 40.

This isn’t the first time this year that a popular show or film has resulted in an old song surging back into the charts, though.

Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menéndez Story is now streaming on Netflix.

Here’s What Love Is Blind’s ‘Sleep Test’ Really Involves

US Love Is Blind fans will know that Stephen Richardson’s fallout with fiancee Monica Davis involved scandal, sex, and… a sleep test.

Among other shady behaviour, the most recent episode of American Love Is Blind saw Monica finding sexts to another woman on Stephen’s phone that were sent while he was engaged to her.

He said of the event, “I did make a completely stupid mistake while being drunk at a sleep test with somebody who texted me.”

We don’t know if he was actually doing a sleep test at the time, and his actions were obviously slimy regardless.

But if you’re anything like us, you might be wondering what a sleep test even is ― and it turns out it can be a pretty useful tool (that said, the secret to a truly seamless sleep is a clear conscience).

What’s a sleep test?

According to healthcare provider Cleveland Clinic’s site, a sleep test, or sleep study, is officially known as a polysomnogram.

It’s a “diagnostic test that tracks and records how multiple body systems work while you’re asleep,” they say. It’s used to diagnose sleep disorders.

It tracks things like your heart brain, and respiratory system as you sleep. It can be used to spot things like insomnia, sleepwalking, and sleep paralysis.

Sleep studies are “similar” to an oximetry test, which “involves wearing an oxygen monitor on a finger during sleep and can often be done at home.”

The NHS says these can be helpful if you have signs of sleep apnoea.

When you’re awake, symptoms of sleep apnoea may show up if you:

feel very tired
find it hard to concentrate
have mood swings
have a headache when you wake up.

At night, your partner may notice your:

breathing stopping and starting
making gasping, snorting or choking noises
waking up a lot
loud snoring.

What if I want one of these tests?

If you’re worried about your sleep habits, your doctor may refer you to specialist clinics which can facilitate sleep investigations.

Studies range from heart monitoring options (a respiratory polygraph) to inpatient observation and movement monitors (actigraphy).

Inpatient observations are the “polysomnograms” we mentioned earlier.

For what it’s worth, sleep studies usually ask participants not to drink ahead of the exam, or to only have as much as you usually do.

The new season of Heartstopper has already proved to be just as popular as its predecessors, winning rave reviews from critics and shooting to the top of Netflix’s most-watched list just one day after its debut.

Once again, Kit Connor and Joe Locke return as central couple Nick and Charlie, with supporting cast Yasmin Finney, William Gao and Tobie Donovan among the regular cast members also back in action for the new series.

But you might have also noticed a few new additions to the cast of season three, that could ring a little familiar to Heartstopper viewers.

Here’s a bit more about where you might have seen them before…

Hayley Atwell

Even if you think Heartstopper is your first time being introduced to Hayley Atwell (who plays Nick’s aunt Diane, in Olivia Colman’s absence), the chances are you’ve seen her before without realising it.

She initially got her start on the big screen in period pieces like Brideshead Revisited and The Duchess, as well as an acclaimed (and Golden Globe-nominated) performance in the show The Pillars Of The Earth, before appearing as Peggy Carter in the Captain America movies.

More recently, she joined the Mission: Impossible series, and is due to share the screen with Tom Cruise once again in the upcoming ninth instalment. Later this month, you can also hear Hayley as the voice of Lara Croft in Netflix’s new animated Tomb Raider series.

Eddie Marsan

With a CV as vast as Eddie Marsan’s, it’s hard to know where to start. In the last two years alone, he’s been booked and busy, playing Amy Winehouse’s dad in Back To Black, a gangster in Amazon’s The Power, the villainous Ray in Netflix’s Supacell and an imposing CEO in the erotic thriller Fair Play.

His other acclaimed work includes the indie film Happy-Go-Lucky, the Irvine Welsh adaptation Filth and the period drama Vera Drake, co-starring Imelda Staunton.

Annette Badland

Soap fans will recognise Annette Badland for her performance as Aunt Babe in EastEnders, but her on-screen work dates back almost 50 years.

Some of her stand-out performances include the movie Little Voice, the hit football series Ted Lasso, Channel 4 comedy Big Boys and the first series of the Doctor Who reboot in 2005.

Darragh Hand

Heartstopper is Darragh Hand’s biggest role to date, joining the fun as a new love interest for Charlie’s sister, Tori (Jenny Walser).

He has done a few big shows so far, though, including Silent Witness and the ITV drama Grace.

Jonathan Bailey

Bridgerton heartthrob Jonathan Bailey makes a brief cameo in one episode of Heartstopper as a social media influencer that Charlie harbours a crush on.

Before being cast in his break-out role of Anthony Bridgerton, you may have seen Jonathan in Chewing Gum, Broadchurch, W1A or Fellow Travelers.

We’ve Got Good News And Bad News For Anyone Hoping For Season 4 Of Heartstopper

After that emotional finale, we can’t be the only ones already desperate for an update about whether Heartstopper is going to get a fourth season – and when we can expect to see it.

Unfortunately, the bad news is, there’s no official word yet, and season three was the second of a two-series deal Netflix made when it renewed Heartstopper off the back of its hugely successful debut in 2022.

The good news, though, is that it’s a safe bet that Netflix will probably be asking for more from the hit show.

Not only did the most recent season win near-unanimous praise from critics, who were particularly impressed with how the famously wholesome show tackled “grittier” and “more mature” themes, it’s also gone down a storm with fans.

Even more tellingly, Heartstopper also knocked Ryan Murphy’s from the top spot of Netflix’s most-watched list just one day after it began streaming, and viewing figures have previously been a huge factor in how the streaming service decides what comes next.

Of course, there’s also no shortage of ideas to explore in a potential fourth season, too.

Season three ended with a huge question mark over whether Nick will be heading off to the uni of his choice, making his long-standing romance with Charlie into a long-distance relationship, and author Alice Oseman is currently in the process of releasing another instalment in the graphic novel series on which the TV series Heartstopper is based.

Alice previously said they expected the show would run for a total of four seasons, telling Radio Times back in 2022: “It would probably be four seasons to cover the full story.

“I haven’t done any in-detail planning or anything, but it’s quite easy to divide up the books into seasons, so four I think would do it.”

Millie Bobby Brown’s Wedding Had A Surprise Stranger Things Connection

Over four months after Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi tied the knot, new details about the couple’s nuptials are coming to light.

On Wednesday, the couole shared photos of the lavish, three-day celebration ― which took place at Villa Cetinale near Siena, Italy, in May ― for the first time publicly on their social media platforms.

“Forever and always, your wife,” Millie wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, which included a carousel of images showing the pair in their stunning wedding attire.

Jake’s Instagram post included a similar series of photos, with the final image confirming that the ceremony had been officiated by Matthew Modine, who plays Dr. Martin Brenner on Stranger Things. The

two-time Golden Globe nominee can be spotted standing beneath a floral archway as Jake reads his vows.

The post drew a cheeky comment from Matthew Modine himself, who commented: “Amazing. Who’s the old guy with a beard?”

Other images highlighted Millie’s stunning Galia Lahav gown, which she paired with a sheer Monvieve veil. It was the first of four custom looks she wore over the course of the celebration.

The groom, meanwhile, opted for an ivory tuxedo jacket and black pants.

Specifics of Millie and Jake’s wedding have remained scarce until now, but People magazine reported in May that they were married in what was then described as a “low-key, romantic” ceremony.

Among those in attendance was Bongiovi’s father, rock singer Jon Bon Jovi.

The young couple got engaged in April 2023 after about two years of dating. Given the couple’s ages, their relationship quickly came under intense media scrutiny.

In a 2023 interview with Andy Cohen, however, Jake’s famous dad came to the pair’s defence.

“I don’t know if age matters,” he said at the time. “If you find the right partner and you grow together, I think that would be my advice really: Growing together is wise.”

He went on to note: “I think that all of my kids have found the people that they think they can grow together with, and we like them all.”

Monsters Has Officially Been Dethroned As Netflix’s Most-Watched TV Show

Since it began streaming last month, Ryan Murphy’s polarising true crime drama has divided opinion among critics and viewers, but has proved to be a huge draw for Netflix users.

However, it has now been replaced in the number one position on Netflix’s UK chart.

It’s probably no great surprise to hear that, as of Friday afternoon, Heartstopper has taken over the top spot from Monsters, a day after returning for its third season.

So far, the new batch of episodes have received near-unanimous praise for the way they handle “more mature” themes for Heartstopper, with the first half of the season diving deeper into Charlie’s mental health and eating disorder.

While almost all of the show’s central cast are back for the third season, one notable absentee is Olivia Colman.

Nobody Wants This Creator Makes Very Honest Admission About Kristen Bell’s Casting

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody have both been at the centre of plenty of praise for their performances in the Netflix rom-com Nobody Wants This.

It might interest you to know, then, that the show’s creator Erin Foster initially had someone very different in mind for the part of Joanne.

The 10-part series was inspired by the early days of Erin’s relationship with her husband, and while promoting the show, she admitted she initially hoped to play the lead role herself.

However, it was Netflix who raised the idea of Kristen playing the title character.

“I wanted an actress who would fall into it in a really relaxed, natural way. And from our first meeting at Netflix, after they bought the idea, immediately for them, it was like, ‘It’s Kristen Bell. It’s Kristen Bell no matter what. It is Kristen Bell. That is who it is’,” Erin recalled to Harper’s Bazaar.

“They have worked with her many times before, and they are obsessed with her. They love her.”

She continued: “We had a meeting, and she was so respectful, nice, and complimentary, and she very clearly, very quickly said, ‘Erin, I know you wrote this for yourself to be in. I’m not comfortable taking this role away from you’. And I said, ‘Well, first of all, it doesn’t sound like I really have a choice, so let’s do this’.”

However, Erin had another reason for not wanting to take on the part, as she was trying to get pregnant at the time, and has since welcomed her daughter, Noa.

“I said to her, ‘The truth is, I want to be a mum. I’m trying to get pregnant, and that’s really my life focus right now, becoming a mum. I don’t want to be sitting in a hair and make-up trailer at 5am’,” she said.

Erin added that she was very happy with the way things turned out, insisting: “It would’ve been way too much. I was really trying to get pregnant, and I knew that those two things happening at the same time wasn’t going to work. And so I was kind of giving her my blessing. Like, ‘I want it to be you. I don’t want it to be me’.

“And after that, it just sort of all fell into place. She really wanted us to cast Adam, too. They had a personal relationship, outside of it, a friendship. She felt really confident that they would have great chemistry. And she was right. She’s got a really great instinct for casting. She had really good ideas.”

9 Things We Learned When We Met The Cast Of Netflix’s Divisive New Drama Monsters

After over a week at the top of Netflix’s most-watched list, and countless pieces written about its content, it’s fair to say the latest season of Ryan Murphy’s true crime series Monsters has really captured the world’s attention.

Having already split opinion right down the middle and sparked plenty of debate about its more graphic and salacious scenes, HuffPost UK managed to speak to the cast of The Lyle And Erik Menéndez Story about the making of the show – and its aftermath.

Here’s what we learned when we spoke to Cooper Koch, Nicholas Chavez, Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny…

The interview took place just days after Cooper Koch visited the Menéndez brothers in prison, which he said had been a ‘crazy experience’

Cooper admitted was “super nervous at first” but his meeting with the Menéndez brothers proved to be a “really amazing” experience.

He met with Lyle and Erik Menéndez, as well as a group of other incarcerated individuals, in the prison gymnasium, where the inmates shared their names and stories, and the brothers also gave a presentation about a “greenspace project that they’d been working on”.

“The thing that I really wanted to do was look both of them in the eye and tell them that I believe them and that I support them and I’m going to do everything that I can to advocate for them – and that in playing the role I tried to be authentic and just to have integrity,” he told us.

Cooper added: “They’re both so kind, really upstanding individuals. They’ve done so much amazing work on themselves in prison.”

Cooper ‘can understand’ where the backlash against Monsters has come from, but he stands by the show

“I don’t think it’s changed my point of view on the series,” he insisted of the ongoing controversies surrounding the show. “We always [intended to take] this Rashomon approach with all these different perspectives.”

“Our goal [was always] to really show all sides of the case – in my eyes, I sort of always saw it as the audience is going to be the jury and they’re going to be able to determine what they believe at the end of the show.”

“But I can understand and sympathise with how that would be jarring for people to see these other perspectives, and so I understand why it’s getting that sort of response,” he added.

“I think there’s a lot of support out there for the brothers, which I love.”

Nicholas Chavez admitted that working for the role was actually a big part of helping him get into character as Lyle

“It’s said in the first episode that José thought they could become a great family like the Kennedys,” he said.

“I think that there were many expectations of perfectionism within this family and I wanted Lyle’s physique to reflect that as well.”

He also took a similar approach when it came to Lyle’s toupée

Nicolas says “mask work” was an important part of his creative process.

“During this time in his life there were many expectations to wear masks in many different facets of his life,” he explained.

“The toupée, for instance, became very symbolic of this for me, a mask that was imposed on him by his father, and just because symbolic of the image that the Menéndez family wanted to project to the world about who they were.”

During the making of Monsters, Chloë Sevigny found herself becoming protective of her young co-stars

She says that between herself, showrunners Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the show’s directors and her co-star Javier Bardem, “we all really wanted to protect the boys, first and foremost” and “make sure that they felt safe”.

“They had a lot to carry in the show and we felt like they were internalising it in a way,” she claimed. “We wanted to make sure that they had a way to kind of let go and turn it off and not internalise it too much.

“Javier was really supportive of them, and encouraging them, and we were saying how great how they were in scenes, but also how important it was to sit down, talk about the work, talk about ourselves personally, about our families and be open with one another.”

Chloë was also ‘really impressed’ with the support offered on set by Netflix

“The whole environment was very sensitive to the material,” she revealed. “Netflix has released a statement across the cast and crew that if any of the material we were dealing with was triggering in any way to anyone they would provide help and support for them.

Chloë revealed it this was “really the first time I had seen that on a set, and I was really impressed with the way they handled it”.

Javier Bardem had apparently been wanting to be part of a Ryan Murphy show since visiting his wife Penélope Cruz on the set of American Crime Story

“I had the chance to be on set back in the day in Miami for a couple of days, and I saw the quality of everybody behind and in front of the camera, and it was the first time I had access to a show like that on set,” the Oscar winner recalled. “Since that day, I was like, ‘I would love to make one of these’.”

The Spanish actor previously collaborated with Ryan Murphy on the film Eat Pray Love, but Monsters is their first time working together on the small screen.

“I’ve known Ryan since 2009, and I know how loving and caring and what a beautiful person he is,” Javier added.

Despite all the controversy surrounding Ryan Murphy’s Dahmer, the show was a big part of Javier Bardem saying yes to Monsters

Asked if he felt trepidation about signing up to play José Menéndez because of the backlash against Dahmer, Javier claimed “it was the opposite for me”.

“I binged the whole show in two nights, and I was mesmerised by the quality of it all,” he said.

“What I loved about it, among many other things, was what was underneath – the criticism of the homophobic, racist society back in the day, where if you were just a nice white guy, blond, you could more or less skate out of justice compared to other people.”

“And I knew that when he was bringing this show to us, there was way more than just a murder,” he continued. “It was something about trauma, abuse and relationships.”

“Absolutely,” Nicholas agreed. “I’m really excited to see the perspectives that they share with this documentary.”

“I’m quite glad that Netflix is giving them this platform,” he added.

Ellen Degeneres Has Released Her Latest Netflix Special And People Already Have Strong Feelings

Ellen Degeneres’ latest comedy offering has already sparked a lot of conversation, and probably not for the reasons she was hoping.

On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled For Your Approval, Ellen’s newest stand-up comedy special, which she is billing as her last ever.

The special marks a major step back into the spotlight for Ellen after the much-publicised end of her talk show in 2022, following a BuzzFeed News report featuring the accounts of nearly a dozen former employees who accused the presenter of fostering a toxic work environment on the set of her eponymous daytime series.

In the report, Ellen and executives on the show were accused of regularly making inappropriate comments about employees’ race, firing staff for taking medical leave and creating a general culture of fear within the workplace.

And while Ellen does address the controversy throughout her special, people aren’t exactly impressed with the way the subject is handled.

For Your Approval opens with a perturbed-looking Ellen surrounded by negative tweets (as they were then known) about the allegations, with one clip that’s been viewed on X almost eight million times branding the set-up “ridiculous”.

It’s also been pointed out that the now-deleted tweet at the centre of the montage, inviting people to share “insane stories you’ve heard about Ellen being mean”, obscures the fact that for each one, the original user offered to donate money to an LA food bank.
