EastEnders Fans Uncover Potential Return Of Soap Villain After On-Set Clue

Between Michelle Collins’ comeback as Cindy Beale, and Jaqueline Jossa’s forthcoming reappearance as Lauren Branning, the EastEnders returnees have been coming thick and fast lately.

And now fans are convinced that another big character is set to walk back into Walford in the very near future – the villainous Dean Wicks.

Played by actor Matt Di Angelo, Dean left the BBC soap back in 2016 after being acquitted of the attempted rape of Roxy Mitchell (played by Rita Simmons).

But now, eagle-eyed followers of the show seem to have spotted Matt in the background of a photo which was taken in the Queen Vic pub.

“This BTS pic of current filming for Xmas eps, I swear this is Dean in the background..,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter.

The potential news comes after show boss Chris Clenshaw teased that Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright, will be getting a major shock this Halloween.

The Queen Vic landlady – who was raped by Dean back in 2014 – is facing her first year without husband Mick (Danny Dyer), who is presumed to be dead after drowning in a horrific car crash last Christmas.

“Poor Linda’s struggling this Halloween as it’s the first one without Mick,” Chris previously told Inside Soap. “Obviously she wasn’t with Mick this time last year, but Halloween was very much their thing, and something they did together in the Vic.

“So, she’s trying her best to make a go of things, but she gets one hell of a surprise that she doesn’t bargain for…”

And fans will also know that a huge Christmas storyline is set to go down, which was hinted at in a dramatic flash-forward episode back in February, and showed Linda, Suki Panesar, Stacey Slater, Denise Fox, Sharon Watts and Kathy Beale standing over a male body in the Walford pub.

The identity of the victim and the killer are yet to be revealed – but with Dean’s potential return to the street, could this be the way he meets his grizzly end?

A source told The Sun: “Dean is the ultimate villain so to bring him back was a genius move especially with everything that’s coming up this autumn. There’s also the small matter of the big murder at Christmas, could it be Dean’s body under the tree?

“We know that Linda is one of the women involved, and this just throws another name in the mix. It’s a very exciting time.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.

EastEnders’ Brian Conley Sets The Record Straight On Exit ‘Row’ Reports

Brian Conley has spoken out to clarify rumours surrounding his forthcoming exit from EastEnders.

The actor is leaving his role as Tom “Rocky” Cotton after two years on the BBC soap, it was revealed this week.

However, in The Sun’s original article about Brian quitting the show, the tabloid reported that his decision came after a “row” with show bosses, who they claimed were now left having to change plans for storylines involving Rocky and a number of other characters.

In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday evening, Brian insisted this was not the case.

Setting the record straight, he explained: “You may have heard reports that I’m leaving EastEnders. It was a tough decision but it is true, I am going and I made it for many reasons, that decision.

“It is tough because they’re such a wonderful crowd, in front of the cameras and behind the cameras and I’ve loved my three years there. So that’s the truth in the reports.”

He continued: “There’s other parts of reports saying that I clashed with TV bosses and the crew. I didn’t clash with anyone. I didn’t have a rant. But they’ll probably report on this now that I’m ranting about ranting! But I’m not ranting!”

He added: “I have gone with their blessings at the Beeb and I’m excited about the future and where it’s going to go. And I’m also excited about Rocky’s exit because I know it’s good. So I’m sending you much love – all EastEnders fans.”

An EastEnders spokesperson added: “We can confirm that Brian Conley will be leaving EastEnders.

“There is absolutely no truth in any claims of a feud with bosses and the show fully supports Brian in his decision to leave which was made some time ago. We wish him the best of luck for the future as we continue to work towards his exit storyline which has been in the works for some time.”

It was previously unclear as to what Brian’s exit could mean for the Christmas “whodunnit?”.

The 25 December episode was teased in a flash-forward episode earlier this year and saw an as-yet-unidentified male killed on in the Queen Vic on Christmas Day, with one of six female Albert Square residents seemingly responsible for his murder.

The BBC had previously said of Brian’s exit: “There are many rumours and theories circulating about whose body is under the Christmas tree but, to not spoil the drama for the audience, we will not be commenting on any speculation.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Actor Josephine Melville Dies Backstage At Theatre After Appearing In Play

Actor Josephine Melville has died backstage at a theatre after appearing in a play.

The performer, whose TV credits include EastEnders and Prime Suspect 2, passed away on Thursday night at the Nottingham Playhouse after acting in a production of Nine Night.

In a statement, the theatre said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that last night the actor Josephine Melville, passed away backstage at Nottingham Playhouse following the performance of the play Nine Night, in which she was performing. Josephine’s family have been informed, and our thoughts and deep condolences are with them.

“Josephine received immediate assistance from Nottingham Playhouse first aiders and a medically qualified member of the Nine Night audience. The subsequent very swift arrival of paramedics meant she was quickly and expertly treated but sadly she passed away at the scene.”

The statement continued: “The entire company, and staff at both theatres are in a state of shock. Josephine was a truly wonderful and well-loved person, a revered and deeply respected performer, director, producer, archivist and writer, and a tremendous Auntie Maggie in Nine Night.

“We are offering our full support to her family, our onstage and production crew and all staff at this awful time.”

Josephine appeared in eight episodes of EastEnders in 1986 as Tessa Parker, the girlfriend of Kelvin Carpenter. She then appeared in an episode in 2005 as a different character.

She had guest roles in shows including Casualty, Hold The Sunset and The Bill, and also made an appearance in Ella Henderson’s video for her 2019 hit Brave.

Rose Ayling-Ellis Leaves EastEnders A Year After Beginning Her Strictly Come Dancing Journey

Strictly Come Dancing champion Rose Ayling-Ellis has announced she is leaving EastEnders after two years with the BBC soap.

Rose began playing Frankie Lewis in 2020, becoming the first deaf actor to play a regular character on the soap.

On Thursday afternoon, the Bafta winner revealed she was stepping down from the role, just over a year after it was first announced she had signed up for last year’s series of Strictly.

She explained: “It’s been incredibly special to be EastEnders’ first regular deaf actor. I have loved my time on the show and Frankie has been such an awesome character to play, however now feels like the right time for me to move on and I am excited and ready for new challenges.

“I will always treasure my time on the show and all the incredible people I have worked with, who have supported my growth as an actor these last two years and given me so many amazing memories.

“I am excited for viewers to see Frankie’s exit storyline; I think it’s a really important one that will hit home for lots of people.”

Frankie will leave Walford this autumn, with Rose’s final scenes in the role having already been filmed.

Rose is probably best known for her participation in the most recent series of Strictly, which she won alongside Giovanni Pernice.

As well as being the first deaf contestant to ever compete on the long-running reality show, Rose and Giovanni later bagged a TV Bafta for the Must-See TV Moment thanks to their stunning Couple’s Choice routine.

Earlier this week, Rose teamed up with Barbie to launch the brand’s first doll who has behind-the-ear hearing aids.

What Eastenders’ Male Breast Cancer Storyline Means To Real-Life Patients

If you’re watching EastEnders, you’ll see that Stuart Highway has been struggling with breast cancer.

Creators of the long-standing TV show wanted to shine a spotlight on male breast cancer and actor Ricky Champ, who plays Stuart, has been consulting with real-life victims to gain insight into the role.

Before the storyline kicked off, Champ met with Doug Harper, 61, from London, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2011.

Just before Christmas, Harper felt a lump on his left nipple which he presumed was a cyst and continued to ignore ‘as blokes do’, he says.

After showing the nipple to a GP, they sent him to hospital and ran tests on Harper, sadly confirming that it was cancer.

“As soon as I showed the nipple to the GP, their demeanour changed immediately and they booked an urgent appointment at the hospital for it to be checked out,” Harper tells HuffPost UK.

“Being told I had breast cancer was a scary and confusing time, not only for me, but also for my friends and family. But everyone was so supportive, some even made light hearted comments about the news to lift the gloom, something they knew I would appreciate.“

Just like Stuart on the soap, one of the reasons Harper felt confused was because he didn’t think it could be breast cancer as it’s not spoken about as much in men as women.

When the oncologist told him he had cancer he says he doesn’t remember anything else apart from asking if he was going to die – he was told hopefully that wouldn’t be the case.

Since having chemotherapy treatment, Harper has become passionate about raising awareness of the condition and informing people that it can happen to anyone, regardless of gender. He is also part of a male cancer support group that he attends monthly.

So when EastEnders came to him to ask about his experience, Harper was glad for the opportunity.

He tells HuffPost: “Ricky was brilliant. While he’s been playing the part, he’s identified the problems that men with breast cancer can get, he just really embraced it. He came along to our group support meeting, and it was uplifting because we need more publicity for men with breast cancer.

“The storyline was really subtle, Stuart’s experience of first getting diagnosed was very similar to ours, being in denial, not thinking it was happening and the shock that comes with it.”

Harper mentions that the soap accurately showed how alienating the condition can be as Stuart is handed two leaflets of support for breast cancer patients – but in both, women are pictured.

Harper, who has since had chemotherapy, is in a band called Steve White & the Protest Family and has written a song about encouraging people to ‘check their moobs’.

He hopes more men will check themselves, saying: “Just know that men can get it. So, check your nipples, check under your arms. And if anything looks different, it could be a cyst or what looks like a cyst on your nipple, it could be a rash, an inverted nipple, or something else under your arms, if you see it, go straight to your doctor.”

He has also been working with Macmillan Cancer support. The charity’s strategic advisor for treatment, Dany Bell, who has more than 30 years’ experience working as a cancer nurse, added: “Nearly 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK. But we know it’s still not something that is widely recognised or known by many people.

“Storylines like Stuart’s in TV shows like EastEnders play such a vital role in helping to raise awareness and to make more people aware of the signs of breast cancer in both men and women. Early diagnosis can improve – and even save lives – and we hope this important plot will get more men regularly check their own chests and reaching out for help, if needed.”

If you’re living with cancer and need to speak to people, about the big things and small things, you can contact Macmillan Cancer Support.

Martin Kemp Reveals George Michael Got Him Job On EastEnders… On One Condition

Martin Kemp has revealed he had George Michael to thank for bagging the role of Steve Owen on EastEnders.

The Spandau Ballet star played the dodgy businessman between 1998 and 2002, but it only came about because the Wham! singer pulled some strings with one of the show’s producers.

But there was also a condition that George – who was a huge fan of the BBC soap – insisted upon.

During an interview on his ITV show Weekend Best, Martin revealed: “George was such an EastEnders fan. He got me the part, in EastEnders, as Steve Owen. Yeah, he pushed me through the door.

“Then he said to me, ‘One thing I want in return… here’s one of my jumpers, sneak it on one day, you have to wear it in one of the scenes!’”

When Weekend Best guest Shane Richie asked if he actually did it, Martin replied: “Yeah I did yeah, I sneaked it on and put it on for him and he loved it!”

Martin added: “He was a beautiful, beautiful man. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”

Martin’s wife Shirlie, who was Wham!’s backing singer, previously revealed their famous friend used to search their home looking for the soap’s scripts.

Shirlie said: “He was obsessed. He would come round and open drawers, snooping about.”
