The Sex And The City revival was divisive from the get-go, but when its final instalment aired over the summer, even its most loyal viewers were disappointed at the way things played out.

However, speaking to the New York Post, Michael Patrick – who was previously one of the showrunners on Sex And The City – maintained that the franchise has always been a controversial one.

“When we did Sex And The City and the women were 35, there was a lot of criticism about ‘why aren’t these women married?’ and ‘why haven’t these women settled down?’ and ‘how annoying are these women?’,” the Emmy winner said.

These days, he continued, the comments are more along the lines of “why aren’t these women further along?”, “why are they still talking?” and “why do they still exist on camera?”.

According to Michael Patrick, And Just Like That was “daring” in the way it depicted “very vibrant women at a certain age”, which he said “rubbed society the wrong way”.

He added that “people, especially women who were in that wheelhouse, were really moved and felt very seen” by the reboot.

“When you’re pushing an edge [or] when you’re trying to do something that really isn’t on TV, there’s always going to be pushback,” he insisted. “But the creative work stands for itself.”

After the finale aired in August, Michael Patrick defended the decision to have the last ever outing for the Sex And The City gang include graphic scenes of an overflowing toilet.

“Whenever anyone in this universe, Sex And The City or And Just Like That, stands on a soapbox to make a speech, the soapbox breaks. We cannot take ourselves too seriously,” he said.

“For the gorgeousness of Carrie’s pink, sparkly top and tulle skirt – that’s the high – the low is a toilet filled up with shit. Because guess what? Being single, there’s a lot of shit, and relationships are a lot of shit,” Michael Patrick added.

“It’s the comedy, with the drama, with the romance, with the fairytale. I guess it’s a response to the fairytale.”

Sarah Jessica Parker – the show’s lead, as well as an executive producer – also defended the finale after it was slammed by both critics and viewers.

Tom Blyth Apologises For ‘Embarrassing’ Cillian Murphy Blunder

Tom Blyth has apologised after a video went viral in which he referred to the Irish actor Cillian Murphy as a “British icon”.

Last month, the Hunger Games star took part in a video interview with British Vogue at a Burberry London Fashion Week event, during which he was asked to name one “British icon” he’d like to see collaborate with the brand in the future.

“Ooh I mean, Cillian Murphy,” Tom responded. “Let’s say Cillian.”

As you can imagine, the British star wound up taking a fair bit of heat online for his mistake, and British Vogue later appeared to remove that section of their interview.

Asked by an Irish reporter for The Standard about his blunder, Tom said: “Firstly, I’m so sorry to you and your people. I’ve nothing but respect for the Irish and I love Cillian Murphy. I was so embarrassed.”

Tom added: “I was so jet-lagged that I didn’t listen to the question properly and I just blurted it out.”

He then remarked: “Oh my God, Cillian Murphy is never going to want to work with me. I genuinely was knackered and just not listening properly.

“I’ve learned my lesson. Next time, critically hearing is an important thing.”

After the interview was first shared online, HuffPost UK contacted Tom Blyth’s team for comment, but did not receive a response.

Cillian has repeatedly had to make clear his Irish identity in the past, including while promoting the 2010 thriller Inception, when a reporter referred to him and his co-star Tom Hardy as “British actors”.

“Nah, I’m Irish,” he replied at the time, and when the interviewer in question suggested this meant he was, in fact, British, Cillian insisted: “No, no, no, no. There’s a big difference.”

Currently best known for his work in the Hunger Games movie The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, Tom has a variety of projects in the near future.

Early next year, he’ll star in Netflix’s adaptation of People We Meet On Vacation, with the movies Watchdog and Wastemen also in post-production.

Cillian, meanwhile, has his return to the 28 Later Franchise coming up in 2026, as well as one last outing as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders film The Immortal Man.

Emily Hewertson Confirmed For Big Brother Twist – And She’s Not The Only Former Housemate Returning

Right-wing media personality Emily Hewertson is one of two former Big Brother contestants returning to the house on Friday night, bosses have confirmed.

Last week, Big Brother presenter AJ Odudu teased that the show would be welcoming back some familiar faces, when one current housemate is moved to a secret room next door alongside some former contestants who were gone “too soon”.

As many fans had already predicted, the first of these will be Emily, who was a controversial signing on this year’s cast, and wound up leaving after mere hours as part of a twist.

She said: “[I’m going in because] I think the meltdown online will be funny. People keep saying ‘we hope it’s not Emily’. Well surprise, it is!”

Emily added: “I feel like nobody actually got to know the real me, they just saw me as a Tory villain. Now they actually get to see Emily rather than Tory Emily.

“Also, the experience will just be amazing. I want to go in there and cause a bit of a storm!”

A vocal member of the Conservative Party, Emily has also been associated with the UK wing of the political group Turning Point, which was founded by the late right-wing political personality Charlie Kirk, in the past.

Her return is no doubt set to be the latest polarising development in what has been a controversial season of Big Brother, which has seen one contestant removed due to “unacceptable” comments that producers chose not to air, and another being given a formal warning for misgendering one of their fellow housemates, who is transgender.

Emily will be joined in the house by Farida Khalifa, the first housemate to be eliminated from Big Brother’s ITV era.

Farida teased: “The amount of time you put into the whole process, I didn’t really feel fulfilled [first time around]. I only had a few days in there.

“The most important thing is – the audience has wanted this for such a long time. Even when Celebrity Big Brother was on, there were rumours I was going back into the house. You’ve got to listen to your fans. I’m doing it for the fans.”

Emily said that she thinks she’ll get on with current housemate Caroline, stating: “I feel like she’s alone in there and I feel like she needs someone else who’s a bit fiery at times but will also share their opinions because it does feel like she’s always against the other Housemates. It’ll be nice to have someone else in her corner.”

Farida, on the other hand, felt the opposite, claiming: “I think I might have problems with Caroline. But I don’t know why. She’s an older woman that’s desperate to win.”

Earlier this month, the Grammy winner released the music video for her latest single The Fate Of Ophelia, the opening shot of which seems to have been inspired by artist Friedrich Heyser’s painting depicting the iconic Shakespearean character.

Heyser’s painting now lives in Museum Wiesbaden in Germany, and dedicated Swifties have been paying it a visit in their droves much to the surprise of staff in the last few weeks.

“We are having an absolute Ophelia run at the moment and are quite surprised and happy about it,” a museum spokesperson told the Guardian.

“It’s been a shock, to be honest. We have a colleague who has a friend who is a Swift fan and she noticed the video’s opening scene had a similarity [with the Heyser painting] and we thought, wow, what a coincidence – that’s exciting.”

Fortunately, Taylor’s fans are said to have been “respectful” despite the sudden interest in the painting, and the museum has even organised a reception and guided tour of the artwork to make the most of its newfound popularity.

The Fate Of Ophelia is the lead single from Taylor’s 12th album The Life Of A Showgirl, which was received with mixed reviews, despite high hopes after the I Knew You Were Trouble singer announced she was reuniting with producers Max Martin and Shellback, who worked on some of her most popular pop albums Red, 1989 and Reputation.

Meanwhile, fans have been busy digging for easter eggs and hidden meanings in Taylor’s new album, with one popular theory suggesting the song Actually Romantic is a diss track directed at fellow popstar Charli XCX.

“I think I’m gonna get canceled if I say it,” the reality star quipped. “Like, I don’t know who approved this, and I don’t know who thought that this was normal, this narrative. But I did a photo-shoot with Justin Bieber, and he was 16 years old. And I don’t know how old I was.”

The photo-shoot in question – seemingly inspired by the film The Graduate – took place in 2010 for Elle magazine, and saw the pair splashing about in the sea, with Kim throwing poses like holding a rose to Justin’s face.

“Nothing ever weird was obviously happening,” she clarified. “And like, I just think that was like an odd concept and [I don’t know] why none of us thought that that was odd at the time.

“But now, we look back and I’m like, ‘that would have not been the most appropriate thing’.”

Kim clarified that Justin’s parents, as well as his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez, were all present at the shoot, insisting there was “like nothing creepy at all” going on.

“But I look back and I’m like, that’s the one thing that I feel like, you know, he’s like a good dear friend of ours and the whole family, but like, who thought that that was a good idea?” she added.

Later in the interview, Kim explained that she first met Justin at a White House dinner, and had previously said she was keen to set him up with younger sister Kendall Jenner, who was 14 at the time, but that he had quipped about being more interested in Kim.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Kim opened up about the breakdown of her marriage with her ex-husband Ye (better known as Kanye West) and how fun it is to “break the internet”.

She also asked for “a little bit of grace” when it comes to her 12-year-old daughter North West’s outfits, following recent chatter around her oldest child sporting looks that included corsets and a dermal piercing.

British comedy fans have had plenty to talk about this last week, following the news that The Inbetweeners looks set for a revival after a hiatus of over a decade.

And now, Joe Thomas – who played Simon Cooper in the cult sitcom and its two spin-off movies – has spoken about the show’s reboot, confirming that he’s up for making a return.

“I feel enormously close to all those people and, obviously, I love spending time with them,” he told The Sun.

Joe added: “If there was an opportunity to spend more time with them in any capacity, I’d love that… that’s pretty much all I can say.”

Earlier this week it came to light that production company Banijay UK and the creators of The Inbetweeners had come to an agreement which “paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title”.

However, speaking about reprising his role, Joe – whose character Simon was an entertainingly hopeless romantic – has also reflected on why the delusional nature of The Inbetweeners’ core four might not be as funny with age.

“When you get older, your delusions fall away, you look at life as it is,” he explained. “It means you get into less stupid situations I suppose, also the challenges get bigger; you can make larger mistakes when you get older.”

Nevertheless, Joe heaped praise on the show’s writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris and their creative ability.

“I’ve always been really, really drawn to brilliant writing and I genuinely think, despite filthy language, The Inbetweeners is a brilliantly written comedy,” he said.

“Honestly, if it was a case of doing more I do have faith in Iain and Damon. It’s their show actually. I mean I’m very much a ‘follow the people’ person.”

Joe co-starred in The Inbetweeners alongside Simon Bird, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison, with the sitcom going on to scoop British Comedy Awards as well as a TV Bafta in the fan-voted Audience Award category.

Two movie spin-offs followed in 2011 and 2014, drawing from the rich comedic fountain of lads’ holidays as the quartet headed to Malia and Australia, respectively.

However a 10th anniversary “Fwends Reunited” special disappointed some fans who wanted more from the content.

Joe has always been the most open of the four when it comes to reprising his role, with Simon claiming only last year that while he loved his co-stars “there are no prospects of a reunion”.

It’s a sentiment that James already made in 2022 when he said that there’s “not enough money in the world” for him to resume his role as Jay as he was worried about tarnishing the legacy of the show.

Last month, Joe and James launched a podcast together, Joe And James Fact Up, where the pair explore strange facts, and talk about their friendship.
