What’s it about? A new comedy from Malaysia that’s comparable with Sex Education, waxer Chu finds it easy to discuss all things sexual in her popular vlog, but when she’s presented with the themes of her channel in real life, things prove to be a bit trickier for her.
Netflix says: “Part-time vlogger Chu Ai uses her channel to speak candidly about sex. But in real life, she finds that subject to be so much trickier.

What’s it about? Based on David Nicholls’ much-loved book (which itself inspired a hit film in 2011, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess), One Day tells the story of a pair of best friends with undeniable chemistry, checking in with them on the same day over a period of 18 years and checking in with their personal highs and lows.
Netflix says: “One Day tells the story of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew who, on 15th July 1988, the night of their graduation, speak for the very first time. The next morning, they go their separate ways but where will they be on this one ordinary day the next year, and the year after that, and every year that follows?
“Each episode finds Dex and Em, one year older, on this one particular date, as they grow and change, move together and apart, experience joy and heartbreak. One Day is a decades-spanning love story, based on the worldwide bestseller by David Nicholls.”

What’s it about? Arguably the documentary that put Sunderland AFC on the map (and inspired Ryan Reynolds’ purchase of Wrexham for his own Disney+ show), Sunderland ’Til I Die follows the inner workings of the team over the course of a season, as well as key members of its fanbase.

After two successful series, Sunderland ’Til I Die is back for one last outing, charting several recent triumphs for the club.
Netflix says: “The six-part documentary provides unprecedented access into the inner workings of Sunderland A.F.C.; from the board to the admin staff and the first team to the fans, in an enduring image of passion and aspiration.”

What’s it about? Now into its sixth season, Love Is Blind is back for a brand new batch of episodes just in time for Valentine’s Day.
You know the drill by now. Love Is Blind follows couples from their first meeting to the moment they get engaged – the only catch being they can’t see one another face-to-face until someone gets down on knees. From there, we see their journey from isolation pods to the altar as they ponder whether love truly is blind.

What’s it about? Essentially a cross between Love Island and Squid Game, this new series from Thailand imagines a world where the number of baby boys being born is dwindling and, as a result, so is the world’s population.
To remedy this, women need to compete for the attention of the few men that are left in a reality TV format dubbed – you guessed it – Ready, Set, Love.

Netflix says: “In a parallel universe, female newborns vastly outnumbered their male counterparts due to an inexplicable pandemic. As men become rarer, they are hailed as ‘national treasures’, and women must win their affections in a government-sponsored competition called ‘Ready, Set, Love’.
“‘Day’ is an ordinary young woman who is unexpectedly accepted into the competition where she meets ‘Son’, the most popular guy, and sparks fly. Together they uncover a conspiracy operating beneath the surface, which threatens their love and the world they have come to know.”

What’s it about? After achieving huge success with their live-action remake of One Piece last year, Netflix is no doubt hoping it can work similar magic with this new spin on the animated fantasy drama Avatar: The Last Airbender.
This new take on the classic series features teen actor Gordon Cormier as the titular Avatar Aang, with Lost star Daniel Dae Kim playing Fire Lord Ozai.
Netflix says: “Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world.
“With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang, a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar.
“Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai . But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task.”

What’s it about? Between Sex/Life, Obsession and Fair Play, erotic thrillers are having a real moment over on Netflix. This latest offering centres on defence lawyer Mea Harper, who takes on a case that winds up turning her entire life upside down.
Oh, and yes, that’s Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland in the lead role.
Netflix says: “When criminal defence attorney Mea Harper takes on the murder case of artist Zyair Malloy, the truth isn’t as obvious as it seems.
“While she tries to determine the innocence or guilt of her cagy-yet-seductive client, it is uncovered that everyone is guilty of something. Tyler Perry’s Mea Culpa explores what happens when burning desire takes hold and things get hot… and dangerous.”

What’s it about? Yep, Netflix has even got in on the awards season fun now.
The last “big one” before the Oscars, the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards recognises the best individual and ensemble acting performances from the past 12 months from both the world of TV and film – with actors themselves doing the voting.
And given what an eventful year the Screen Actors’ Guild has had, this could be one to keep an eye on. For the first time, the SAG Awards will be streaming live worldwide on Netflix – but set your alarm, because the fun gets going in the early hours of Monday 25 February.
Netflix says: “The award show for actors, by actors, celebrates its 30th year.”
My boyfriend, Rod, is passionately kissing another woman.
Little fingers of jealousy squeeze my insides, and I’m not sure where to look or what to do. The woman senses my discomfort and immediately stops, pulling me up beside her with a big, warm giggle and a squeeze. I relax and remember: This is why I chose her. I like her, I love that giggle, and I know she has absolutely zero interest in poaching my boyfriend.
How do I know this? Because I picked her out of the lineup at one of Nevada’s most storied legal brothels. We hired her to join us for a threesome for an hour, and when our time is up, she will go back out to the bar and charm someone else with that sexy laugh, and we will go home.

I’d never had a “real” threesome before, other than some fairly benign fooling around in college. It had been a lifelong fantasy, but the emotional politics of threesomes always seemed so forbiddingly complicated. Surely someone would get hurt, someone would feel left out, someone would get jealous ― surely, maybe, definitely me? Plus that third-wheel ― would she turn stalker? Would we get an STI? Would an angry boyfriend show up out of nowhere and make us the unfortunate stars of a true-crime show? Just too risky. So I had resigned myself to the fact that some things are best left to fantasy.
When I met a lover who knew his way around a paid hookup, however, a whole new possibility presented itself. Rod and I headed to the brothel outside Reno, Nevada, to celebrate my upcoming birthday. And it was not at all what I expected.
We took a cab from our hotel in downtown Reno to the brothel’s bar, all flashy neon outside but classic sticky floors and bare-bones Old West saloon inside. Escorts chatted among themselves on bar stools or lounged on velvet banquettes against the wall. It was early ― around 4 p.m. ― and we were some of the only patrons. A few old men sat at wooden bar tables, eating out of plastic foam TV trays and silently sipping beer. Women who obviously knew them would pop by periodically to pick them up, a scene much more akin to medical assistants ushering patients to the exam room than participants embarking on a sexy encounter.
Rod and I were the subject of great interest ― couples are a fairly rare event ― and we had many friendly women cruise by our table, asking if we had any questions and offering to show us around. Before we had a chance to chat with anyone in detail, the “lineup” bell rang, and every patron who had not already initiated an encounter with a woman went through a forbidding dungeon-like door into a cavernous hunting lodge space.

In front of a giant stone fireplace the women lined up. They were every kind of everything ― all different races and body types and styles of dress. I found myself in a rare moment of simply admiring the beautiful diversity of their bodies without that knee-jerk need to compete or compare myself. I winced a bit self-consciously, however, when I realised that none of them were as old as I was. Would they be turned off by our middle-aged bodies? Wait, was I actually expecting them to be turned on? I was momentarily stumped.

The author and her boyfriend, Rod, on the plane to Reno, Nevada.
The house manager ― a business-suited woman who was my age ― introduced each woman, who then stepped forward for a moment, gave a little wave and a smile, just like at a beauty pageant. A handsome young guy in the chair beside us made his pick immediately. His woman grinned and sashayed over to sit on his lap and gave him an enthusiastic greeting ― this was clearly not their first time together. The manager then asked any women who wanted to entertain couples to step forward, and about half of the line did.
Rod and I had made an agreement before we arrived: I got to choose. I already knew that I wanted Carmen, the curvy, dark-haired woman in a fishnet dress and thong who had been the first to say hello to us in the bar. She was flirty and seemed happy. She was pretty and she had that giggle. So I pointed at her, while my nice-girl upbringing screamed at me silently: Pointing is so rude! The women without dates headed back to the bar and I felt another guilty stab as they filed past us. Had I made them feel rejected? Did they take it personally?
I didn’t have time to think about it because Carmen was shimmying on our lap, or, more specifically, on my lap as I sat on Rod’s lap. Pulling me up by the hand, and looping an arm around him, she led us to the negotiation room. It was a small room with dim lighting that resembled a hall closet and was just big enough for us all to sit knee to knee while we discussed what our hour might look like and what the price tag would be.

Depending on what services we wanted, our time with Carmen could easily total a thousand dollars or more. She laid out her ground rules (condoms were always required; kissing was OK) and asked if we had any specific requests. Not really, we just want to have fun, we told her. We negotiated a price ― I gulped and Rod agreed. Then we offered up our genitals for inspection, a quick once-over she conducted with a sly sense of humour while she detailed the rigorous STI testing she undergoes every week. Oddly, the whole thing was reassuring and funny rather than awkward. STIs are taken very seriously at the brothel, which is obviously a good thing.
The unusual formalities over, we headed to the pay window and forked over the cash. Once we were finished, we followed Carmen down a maze-like hallway — a literal red light glowed everywhere ― and she pranced along ahead of us with a Champagne bottle in an ice bucket.
When we finally got to her room, a tiny, semi-personalised space, I was thrilled to find it was toasty ― I’m always freezing when I’m nervous. Carmen pointed out condoms, towels, the fresh sheets on the bed, and the adjoining bathroom (which she shared with the woman in the room next door). The little tour was a strange combination of straight commerce and flirtation.
Carmen seemed to be a naturally touchy-feely person and she held my arm or tapped my back as she showed us around. I noticed that she focused her attention much more on me than Rod, which charmed me, but the cynical observer in me noted that it is an undoubtedly smart, practiced move — she is obviously well-versed in disarming the female competition and jealousy aspect of these encounters.

The author and her boyfriend hanging out at the bar in their hotel, where she says they, “enjoyed shocking people by telling them our destination.”

Things flowed effortlessly between Carmen and me, from our intro chatter to getting into the horizontal action, and within minutes Rod enthusiastically joined in, the three of us rotating around in a surprisingly fluid give-and-take. While he nominally took charge ― after all, a threesome needs a little direction ― it was overwhelmingly female-centered sex. I smiled to myself. Threesomes are such trite male-fantasy territory, but Carmen and I were a girl party of teamwork, exploration and celebration. I even joked at one point that we hoped Rod didn’t feel excluded. (He decidedly did not.) The whole experience was fun and sexy ― all I had hoped it would be ― with none of the awkwardness I had feared.
Carmen was unfailingly charming and enthusiastic, but I never once mistook her warmth for actual sexual excitement. There was no pretence on anyone’s part that this encounter was expected to include satisfaction for her.
I asked her about this later, as we all lounged naked on the bed, sipping Champagne and chatting. She batted the question down with a polished little sidestep ― she explained that she has enough fun just making her clients happy, and it’s too much work to have orgasms all day long anyway. We asked her where she grew up (Venezuela) and how she got into this line of work. (She was initially a stripper but found brothel work safer, with less harassment and more money.) When I wondered aloud whether the post-coital chat was the best or worst part of the job, Carmen assured me she looks forward to connecting with customers and that the old saw is actually true: She often has clients who pay just to talk.
Way too soon, an intercom buzzer rang and a female voice let us know our time was up. I had wondered about security ― surely there was a network of bouncers and cameras and intercoms and emergency buttons to protect the women, but everything was so discreet, we didn’t notice any of it. We jumped up and bustled around, helping Carmen strip the bed and straighten up (even though she insisted we didn’t have to) and then the three of us spilt out into the hallway.
We returned to the bar where we began our adventure for some final chatter and a drink. We were sitting cozily together at a table and laughing at our own newly made inside jokes, when a young woman who looked fresh off a farm joined us. She clearly had a friendly relationship with Carmen and was eager to know, “What exactly do you do in a threesome?” As we happily shared our insights, she turned to me and said with a wink, “This is what happens to a girl when you raise her in a really strict, controlling religion!” I raised my glass and said, “That makes two of us, girlfriend! Amen!”

A drink suddenly arrived at our table for Carmen. It was sent from a gentleman at the bar, and she smiled and raised a toast to him. She got up immediately and, after squeezing my leg in a little goodbye, strutted over to him. I watched as they chatted for a few moments and then she linked her arm in his and led him over to the big lodge door. The last thing I heard as it swung shut behind them was that warm, bubbly giggle, and I found myself sad to see her go. I guess I was jealous after all.

“I will be a responsible chancellor. I will be Britain’s first green chancellor.”
But that “pledge” has now been watered down and, if the repeated off-the-record briefings are to believed, is on the verge of being ditched altogether.

Throw in Reeves’ surprise announcement this week that an incoming Labour government would not bring back the cap on bankers’ bonuses and it’s understandable why some voters are asking what do Labour stand for.
Not least because it is barely three months since Reeves herself said that the scrapping of the cap “tells you everything you need to know” about the Tories.
Luke Tryl of the More in Common think tank, which regularly tests public opinion through polling and focus groups, told HuffPost UK: “What has cut through with the public is the vacillation on the £28bn policy.
“People say Labour can’t seem to make their minds up – we heard it multiple times last week. No one is worried about the cost of it or the policy itself, they just want Labour to make their minds up about it.”
Labour’s crisis of confidence about one of its flagship policies has coincided with the Tories’ decision to go on the attack, claiming that the opposition’s plan to borrow billions would push up taxes and interest rates.
That in turn has fed into a belief that Labour is afraid to announce anything controversial, just in case it damages the party’s enormous poll lead.
“You can get away with making a thin offer to the electorate, but you can’t get away with offering nothing at all,” said one senior Labour source who said the green investment policy’s £28bn price tag has become “an albatross” around the party’s neck.
Luke Tryl said Labour’s approach is all the more baffling because opinion polls show the country is ready for a change of government.
He said: “The country doesn’t want the status quo. The risk for Labour is that, by being very cautious, voters don’t see them as presenting the change they want.
“Labour will say ‘why blow the lead we’ve got’, but if things do start to pick up for the government, the polls could narrow because voters end up deciding to stick with what they’ve got.
“Now is the time for Labour carve out an alternative offer so they can win a mandate to change things in government.”
One former Labour shadow minister said: “The gap between winning an election and governing is growing increasingly wider. Sometimes it seems like our only motive is winning, and the danger is that the public think we’ll say anything because we believe in nothing – on bankers’ bonuses, on making Brexit work, on the £28bn flip-flop.
“The closer we get to an election, the more the voters will look at what we are actually proposing to do in government and how that will impact on them.”
The way the £28bn climbdown has been communicated has also revealed the tensions that remain at the top of the Labour Party.
“Some of our senior politicians and advisers are swanning around town holding court at every corporate cocktail party, when we’ve won nothing yet and are in for a brutally punishing general election campaign.”
HuffPost UK understands that Morgan McSweeney – Keir Starmer’s chief of staff – and veteran MP Pat McFadden, the party’s national campaign chief, are unhappy they are being blamed for killing off the policy, with allies pointing out that the final decision rests with the leader and his shadow chancellor.
And while Reeves repeatedly refused to even say ”£28bn” during an interview with Sky News on Thursday, Starmer was happy to declare: “We will ramp up to that £28bn during the second half of the parliament – subject to our fiscal rules.”
One MP said: “The key question still is: who is in charge? The debacle over the £28bn figure has managed to simultaneously show indecisiveness and inflexibility.”
Others believe that having such a commanding – and widening – poll lead for such a long time has led many in the Labour Party to believe that victory at the general election is inevitable.
A senior Labour insider told HuffPost UK: “There is a difference between confidence and complacency. We came back after Christmas thinking it would be a matter of weeks until an election and all we had to do was show up and prepare for the ticker-tape parade up Downing Street. That has led to a lack of focus and unnecessary mistakes.
“Some of our senior politicians and advisers are swanning around town holding court at every corporate cocktail party, when we’ve won nothing yet and are in for a brutally punishing general election campaign.”
One Starmer ally admitted the party had managed to make its green investment policy “confusing when it’s not actually confusing”.
“What we should have been saying is investing in the economy is the right thing to do, but fiscal responsibility comes first,” he said. ”But the problem is we put a figure on it and we haven’t been quick enough to squash that figure.
“We’ll eventually get to the right position on it, but the process of getting there has been a pain in the arse.”

Left-wing MP Clive Lewis, a member of the Green New Deal Group, called on the party leadership to stand by its pledge.
“Instead of backing down, it is time for Labour to face down the Tories and win the case for public investment in the climate transition – of £28bn and beyond,” he said.
A veteran backbencher said Labour’s recent policy agonies have been a useful reminder that the next election is not in the bag.
He said: “We have to be prepared for one final big plot twist between now and the election.
“The Tories are beaten up and dead on their feet, but if they get a couple of planes to Rwanda, if some of the economic figures point to recovery, if they corner us on tax and spending in March and if they keep landing attacks on Keir, then they still might have a bit of fight left in them as we enter the last round.”
NEW YORK (AP) — Carl Weathers, a former NFL linebacker who became a Hollywood action movie and comedy star, playing nemesis-turned-ally Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, facing off against Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator and teaching golf in Happy Gilmore, has died. He was 76.
Matt Luber, his manager, said Weathers died on Thursday. His family issued a statement saying he died “peacefully in his sleep”.

Comfortable flexing his muscles on the big screen in Action Jackson as he was joking around on the small screen in such shows as Arrested Development, Weathers was perhaps most closely associated with Creed, who made his first appearance as the cocky, undisputed heavyweight world champion in 1976’s Rocky, starring Sylvester Stallone.
“It puts you on the map and makes your career, so to speak. But that’s a one-off, so you’ve got to follow it up with something. Fortunately those movies kept coming, and Apollo Creed became more and more in people’s consciousness and welcome in their lives, and it was just the right guy at the right time,” he told The Daily Beast in 2017.
Creed, who appeared in the first four Rocky movies, memorably died in the ring of 1984’s Rocky IV, going toe-to-toe with the hulking, steroided-using Soviet Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren. Before he entered the ring, James Brown sang Living in America with showgirls and Creed popped up on a balcony in a Star-Spangled Banner shorts and waistcoat combo and an Uncle Sam hat, dancing and taunting Drago.

A bloodied Creed collapses in the ring after taking a vicious beating, twitches and is cradled by Rocky as he dies, inevitably setting up a fight between Drago and Rocky. But while Creed is gone, his character’s son, Michael B Jordan’s Adonis Creed, would lead his own boxing trilogy starting in 2015.
Weathers went on to 1987’s Predator, where he flexed his pecs alongside Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura and a host of others, and 1988’s nouveau blaxploitation flick Action Jackson, where he trains his flamethrower on a bad guy and asks, “How do you like your ribs?” before broiling him.
He later added a false wooden hand to play a golf pro for the 1996 comedy classic Happy Gilmore opposite Adam Sandler and starred in Dick Wolf’s short-lived spin-off series Chicago Justice in 2017 and in Disney’s The Mandalorian, earning an Emmy Award nomination in 2021. He also voiced Combat Carl in the Toy Story franchise.
Weathers grew up admiring actors such as Woody Strode, whose combination of physique and acting prowess in Spartacus made an early impression. Others he idolised included actors Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte and athletes Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali, stars who broke the mold and the colour barrier.
“There are so many people that came before me who I admired and whose success I wanted to emulate, and just kind of hit the benchmarks they hit in terms of success, who created a pathway that I’ve been able to walk and find success as a result. And hopefully I can inspire someone else to do good work as well,” he told the Detroit News 2023. “I guess I’m just a lucky guy.”
Growing up in New Orleans, Weathers started performing in plays as early as grade school. In high school, athletics took him down another path but he would reunite with his first love later in life.
Weathers played college football at San Diego State University — he majored in theater — and went on to play for one season in the NFL, for the Oakland Raiders, in 1970.
“When I found football, it was a completely different outlet,” says Weathers told the Detroit News. “It was more about the physicality, although one does feed the other. You needed some smarts because there were playbooks to study and film to study, to learn about the opposition on any given week.”
After the Raiders, he joined the Canadian Football League, playing for two years while finishing up his studies during the offseason at San Francisco State University. He graduated with a BA in drama in 1974.
After appearing in several films and TV shows, including Good Times, The Six Million Dollar Man, In the Heat of the Night and Starsky & Hutch, as well as fighting Nazis alongside Harrison Ford in Force 10 From Navarone, Weathers landed his knockout role — Creed. He told The Hollywood Reporter that his start in the iconic franchise was not auspicious.

He was asked to read with the writer, Stallone, then unknown. Weathers read the scene but felt it didn’t land and so he blurted out: “I could do a lot better if you got me a real actor to work with,” he recalled. “So I just insulted the star of the movie without really knowing it and not intending to.” He also lied that he had any boxing experience.
Later in life, Weathers developed a passion for directing, helming episodes of Silk Stalking and and the Lorenzo Lamas vehicle Renegade. He directed a season three episode of The Mandalorian.
Weathers introduced himself to another generation when he portrayed himself as an opportunistic and extremely thrifty actor who becomes involved with the dysfunctional clan at the heart of Arrested Development.
The Weathers character likes to save money by making broth from discarded food — ’There’s still plenty of meat on that bone” and “Baby, you got a stew going!” — and, for the right price, agrees to become an acting coach for delusional and talent-free thespian Tobias Funke, played by David Cross.
TV personality Jonnie Irwin has died aged 50, his family has said.
The presenter, who fronted Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun and the BBC’s Escape To The Country, revealed in 2022 that he had two years earlier been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer which had spread to his brain.
A statement on his Instagram account announcing his death said he touched “the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth and infectious spirit”.

Alongside a photograph of the late TV host and his wife, Jessica Holmes, with whom he has three young sons – Rex, and twins Rafa and Cormac – thetribute read: “In Loving Memory. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing.
“A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth and infectious spirit.”
It continued: “At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss. Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers and support are deeply appreciated.

“As we remember the beautiful moments shared with Jonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will for ever be etched in our hearts. Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter and memories will live on.
“Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.”
Since going public with his diagnosis, Jonnie has been documenting his experience of living with cancer on social media. He had been open about his illness in the hope of inspiring others to “make the most of every day”.
Jonnie said the first warning sign of his illness came while he was filming A Place In The Sun in August 2020 in Italy, when his vision became blurry while driving. “Within a week of flying back from filming, I was being given six months to live,” he told Hello! magazine
Jasmine Harman, his long-time co-presenter on A Place In The Sun, wrote on Instagram: “I have never admired you more than over the last few years as you’ve faced life with cancer with positivity, determination and bloody mindedness. The world is a little darker today without you, but I will always smile when I think of you.”
Donald Trump bizarrely and falsely suggested on Wednesday that he had come out on top in his New York civil cases.
“Are you thinking of potentially trying to use campaign funds to pay some of the penalties?” a reporter asked the former president at a news conference following his meeting with Teamsters Union leaders in Washington, DC.

“What penalties?” Trump asked.
“In the New York fraud cause and the defamation case,” the reporter replied.
“I didn’t do anything wrong,” said Trump. “I mean, that’s been proven as far as I’m concerned.”
He claimed that “actually, we won in the court of appeals”.
Actually, he didn’t.
In the defamation case, jurors awarded writer E Jean Carroll an astonishing $83.3 million in damages on Friday. She had accused him of defaming her after she came forward in 2019 with allegations he raped her in 1996.
In a separate trial in May last year, a jury concluded that Trump was liable for sexually abusing, but not raping, Carroll and for defaming her. He was ordered to pay $5 million in damages. He has denied all wrongdoing and appealed that verdict; there has been no outcome yet.
He has also vowed to appeal Friday’s decision.

Trump: “What penalties?”
Reporter: “In the New York fraud case and the defamation case.”

As for New York civil business case, Trump was found liable for fraud in that matter before the trial began.

Following an 11-week trial, Judge Arthur Engoron is expected to rule on six additional claims including falsifying business records and insurance fraud, and to rule on how much Trump and his co-defendants must pay, as well as whether they can continue to do business in New York.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has asked for $370 million in the lawsuit.
Engoron had previously ordered the dissolution of Trump’s businesses in the state, a decision which is on hold pending Trump’s appeal.
While the Scotsman had already starred in notable films when Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999) began production, McGregor’s casting as Obi-Wan Kenobi raised his profile overnight. The critical backlash, however, ultimately proved just as memorable.
“I am happy that I am this character for a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked,” McGregor told Variety in an interview published on Wednesday. “That was hard. The first one was panned, and we still had to make another two!”

He continued, “It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.”
George Lucas built an empire out of Star Wars (1977) and its sequels, which introduced whole generations to lightsabers, handsome rogues and a digestible notion of good vs. evil. The fandom certainly hadn’t gone dormant after but powerfully reawakened in 1998.
While the Menace teaser attached to Meet Joe Black at the time spawned massive enthusiasm, the $115 million film itself was critically trounced for its childish humor, narrative flaws and overwhelming use of CGI. It maintains a 52% Rotten Tomatoes rating to this day.
McGregor had signed on for two more sequels, which were received only marginally better. The actor clearly survived the backlash and went on to have an impressive career, which arguably began years before Menace under the direction of Danny Boyle.

Boyle had cast McGregor in Shallow Grave (1994) and Trainspotting (1996), but made Leonardo DiCaprio the lead of his 2000 follow-up The Beach. McGregor felt famously slighted by this, as he was far more interested in that role than he was in any Star Wars.
“It wasn’t a done deal for me,” he told Variety about playing Obi-Wan Kenobi. “I didn’t think it was at all who I was. I believed, at that point, I was a Danny Boyle actor. The Beach was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t flippant. I did ask a lot of people for advice.”
The actor ultimately returned to the role in 2022 for a Disney+ miniseries, which not only spawned massive enthusiasm from fans — but a positive Rotten Tomatoes score. Whether McGregor will return to the show remains to be seen, though he certainly wouldn’t mind.
He told Variety, “I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet.”
While there was some speculation the NFL star would be on girlfriend Taylor Swift’s arm at this weekend’s Grammy Awards, Kelce confirmed he won’t be around for the biggest night in music.
“Unfortunately, I’ve got to get ready for this big old Super Bowl that we’ve got in a week,” the tight end added.
Although Kelce isn’t joining Swift at the Grammys, it’s still unknown if she’ll be able to make it to the Super Bowl to support Kelce.
While Kelce and Swift’s relationship has caused a frenzy, the athlete told McAfee his personal life is not going to be a distraction on the field.
“Football is my main focus right now,” he said. “There’s a lot of people counting on me … and on top of that, it’s in my heart to be able to pour everything I got out there on the field.”

The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, February 11, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
It’s still up in the air if Swift will make it to the big game to support Kelce.
While she’s been a fixture at Chiefs games this season, she’ll be performing in Toyko the night before the Super Bowl.
Conservative minister Mike Freer has announced he is quitting Westminster politics following a series of death threats and an attack on his office last month.
The MP said he has received “several serious threats to my personal safety” since being elected to represent Finchley and Golders Green in north London in 2010.

The 63-year-old justice minster has said previously he narrowly missed a meeting with Ali Harbi Ali, who murdered fellow Tory MP David Amess, at his constituency office, and has since worn a stab vest at public events in the area.
The MP has said he was first targetted by a group called Muslims Against Crusades in 2011, who said the stabbing of Labour MP Stephen Timms should be “piercing reminder” to politicians that “their presence is no longer welcome in any Muslim area”.
He told The Daily Mail a suspected arson attack at the constituency office in December was “the last straw”.
In a statement posted on X, Freer said the events had “weighed heavily on me and my husband, Angelo”, and that “serious incidents are alongside the many ‘low level’ incidents”.

The MP, who has pro-Israel views and represents a heavily Jewish constituency, said: “No MP can operate effectively without the support of their spouse and wider family. Sadly the serious incidents place intolerable stress on them too.”
Freer is among a series of Tory MPs who have announced their intention not to stand at the next election, which is expected this year.
In the last decade, Amess and Labour MP Jo Cox were both murdered in their constituencies, and Timms survived being stabbed by an al Qaeda sympathiser in 2010.
“There comes a point when the threats to your personal safety become too much,” Freer said in the interview with the Mail.
LONDON (AP) — The former Scottish leader in office during the Covid-19 pandemic choked up on Wednesday as she admitted to a public inquiry into the outbreak that she sometimes doubted whether she wanted to be first minister at such a consequential time.
Nicola Sturgeon told the United Kingdom’s public inquiry into the pandemic that she sometimes felt “overwhelmed by the scale of what we were dealing with”, particularly at the start of the pandemic in the first half of 2020. Although Scotland is part of the UK, its government has powers over matters relating to public health.

“I was the first minister when the pandemic struck,” she said in Edinburgh. “There’s a large part of me wishes that I hadn’t been, but I was, and I wanted to be the best first minister.”

Sturgeon, 53, became first minister in 2014 after Scotland voted to remain part of the UK in a referendum and was in office until her surprise resignation in 2023.
Sturgeon won numerous plaudits for her handling of the pandemic. She was widely seen to have been on top of things, and clear in her public pronouncements, especially when compared to former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who led policy in England and who gave evidence to the inquiry late last year.

The UK suffered one of the worst Covid-related death tolls during the pandemic, with around 235,000 deaths. Scotland’s death toll stands at more than 18,000
However, Sturgeon’s reputation has taken a battering over the past few months, especially in the wake of her arrest last June over a police investigation into the finances of the governing, pro-independence Scottish National Party. She hasn’t been charged and insists she has done nothing wrong.
Sturgeon’s standing has been further dented by the recent revelation that her WhatsApp messages had been deleted, which has led to questions about her trustworthiness.
She admitted to the inquiry that she deleted WhatsApp messages but insisted that she didn’t use informal messaging such as WhatsApp to make decisions.
“During the pandemic I did not make extensive use of informal messaging and certainly did not use it to make decisions,” she said.

While Sturgeon conceded that WhatsApp had become “too common” within the Scottish government, Sturgeon said she exchanged WhatsApps with no more than a “handful” of people, and wasn’t a member of any groups.
She said she deleted messages in line with official advice that messages could be comprised if a phone was lost or stolen, and that “salient” points were all recorded on the corporate record.
The former first minister said she had “always assumed there would be a public inquiry” and apologised for any lack of clarity at a public briefing in August 2021 where she said her WhatsApps would be handed over despite knowing they had already been deleted.
Last week, Sturgeon’s successor as first minister, Humza Yousaf, offered an “unreserved” apology for the Scottish government’s “frankly poor” handling of requests for WhatsApp messages. He has announced an external review into the government’s use of mobile messaging.
The inquiry is divided into four so-called modules, with the current phase focusing on political decision-making around major developments, such as the timing of lockdowns. Though the devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland had policy independence, the UK as a whole often moved as one, especially when it came to lockdown decisions.

The inquiry, led by retired Judge Heather Hallett, is expected to take three years to complete, though interim assessments are set to be published.
Johnson agreed in late 2021 to hold a public inquiry after heavy pressure from bereaved families, who have been particularly angry at the evidence emerging about his actions.
The lawyer representing the Scottish Covid Bereaved group, Aamer Anwar, said Sturgeon had delivered a “polished performance” but that his clients were “deeply unsatisfied” with the explanations around the deletion of WhatsApp messages.
He said the group is considering calling for a criminal investigation into the actions of the former first minister and others.
