51 Iconic Met Gala Looks That Got The Whole World Talking

Every year on the first Monday in May, the world’s most famous people gather under one roof, dressed in their finest, for the Met Gala fundraiser event.

This means that on the first Tuesday in May, many of us here in the UK spend our mornings scrolling through social media, judging the A-list guests’ red carpet looks.

Well, folks, that fateful day is almost upon us. So, to prepare for this year’s event – co-chaired by Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, with the dress code “tailored for you” (in honour of the Met’s upcoming exhibit Superfine: Tailoring Black Style) – we’ve rounded up some of the best, most glamorous or, indeed, most outrageous looks in Met Gala history.

Lily Allen Apologises To Katy Perry For ‘Mean’ Space Flight Comments

In a recent episode of her podcast, Miss Me?, Lily and co-host Miquita Oliver discussed the news that Katy and five other women had taken an 11-minute flight into space.

“What the hell was all that about?” the Brit Award winner said (per BBC News). “I mean, in all seriousness, what? Why? For why?

“It’s so out of touch. Like, we’re on the brink of recession. People are really struggling to make ends meet and put food on their tables. And the fact that they’ve, like, made it like some sort of feminist thing…”

However, in the latest instalment of Lily’s podcast, she walked back some of her comments, describing them as “mean” and putting her criticism down to “internalised misogyny”.

“There was actually no need for me to bring [Katy’s] name into it, and it was my own internalised misogyny,” Lily told Miquita. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her.”

The Smile singer continued: “I mean, I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn’t the only person that did it. She was possibly the most famous, and the one that divides people the most, and so there was something in me that decided to choose her [to talk about]. Well, anyway, I’m just sorry.”

Katy was joined on her trip to space by American broadcaster Gayle King, movie producer Kerianne Flynn, journalist Lauren Sánchez (who is engaged to Jeff Bezos, the owner of the space travel company Blue Origin), activist Amanda Nguyễn and rocket scientist Aisha Bowe.

Upon her return to Earth, Gayle King hit back at some of the criticisms levelled against herself and her teammates.

Patrick Schwarzenegger Gets Honest About Very Awkward ‘Fan’ Encounter

Thanks to his breakout performance in the current season of The White Lotus, Patrick Schwarzenegger is more recognisable than ever.

Or, at least, that’s what you would think.

The former Gen V star has revealed he recently had a humbling encounter with a “fan”, that turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

Posting on X on Tuesday afternoon, Patrick recalled that he’d been approached by a girl who asked him: “Excuse me… are you the…?”

After confirming with an “awkward laugh” that “maybe” he was – she then professed her love for his work in Pretty Little Liars.

The only issue there, of course, is the fact that Patrick never actually appeared in that show.

“Oh I’m so sorry!! I thought you were someone else!” the girl in question then told him, before walking off.

Still, at least he saw the funny side of the otherwise awkward encounter…

Those of us who actually are watching The White Lotus will know that Patrick’s character is currently embroiled in one of the show’s most outrageous storylines ever, after it emerged that his on-screen brother performed a sex act on him during a threesome.

Since the latest episode aired, the actor has spoken out in defence of the show, with both Patrick and co-star Sam Nivola insisting that the much-discussed storyline is about much more than just “shock value”.

“There’s some sensationalism, but then there’s also the stuff behind the wall of the character and what he’s dealing with in the conflict of what just happened,” Patrick claimed earlier this week.

He added: “There’s always more than what just meets the eye of the shock value on the screen.”

Patrick – the son of action star and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist Maria Shriver – recently spoke candidly about the awkward moment he watched one of his earlier nude scenes alongside his famous family.

Bella Ramsey Opens Up About ‘Freeing’ Autism Diagnosis

The British actor has previously disclosed that they were told that they were neurodivergent while working on the first season of The Last Of Us.

“I’ve spoken a bit about neurodivergence before, but I always for some reason didn’t want to… I felt like I didn’t want to say what it was,” they said, before sharing: “I got diagnosed with autism when I was filming season one of The Last Of Us.”

Describing the diagnosis as “freeing”, Bella continued: “It enables me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself about not being able to do the easy everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do.”

The former Game Of Thrones star told British Vogue they first pursued an autism diagnosis after a crew member on The Last Of Us who had a child with autism “assumed” that Bella did too.

According to the magazine, this diagnosis confirmed something Bella had “always wondered” about themself, having grown up feeling out of place and often experienced sensory issues and what Vogue described as a “painful hyperawareness of other people’s micro-expressions and body language”, which are often associated with people within the autism community.

Bella is currently gearing up for the return of The Last Of Us, in which they reprise their acclaimed performance as Ellie from the first series.

The White Lotus Star Aimee Lou Wood Embraced Her Teeth Thanks To This Iconic Pop Culture Moment

Aimee Lou Wood has revealed that a certain beauty campaign helped her embrace her distinctive teeth.

In a recent Instagram collaboration with the makeup brand Merit, the Bafta winner reflected on her own changing relationship with beauty.

“Playing loads of different characters has really helped with my self-confidence surrounding beauty, because it’s meant I’ve had to surrender control a lot,” the White Lotus star explained.

She continued: “A big thing for me growing up was my mouth, because it was the thing that everyone pointed out, and it was the thing that made me different. And I’d never seen an actress on TV with teeth like mine.

“When [Georgia May Jagger] did [her] ‘get the London look’ [for Rimmel], and she had the gap teeth, that was a huge moment. And I thought, ‘no, I am going to put red lipstick on, and I am going to draw attention to it’.”

In a full-circle moment, Georgia May Jagger then popped up in Aimee’s comments, telling her: “Your teeth are gorgeous.”

Aimee recently brushed off negative comments about her teeth during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

She claimed: ”All I ever do is take the piss out of myself. Even the way [White Lotus fans] are talking about me and my teeth — that I don’t have veneers or Botox — it feels a bit rebellious.”

Aimee can currently be seen in action in the third season of The White Lotus, playing Chelsea, a character who – like herself – originally hails from Manchester.

In the lead-up to the new season, Aimee revealed that in her original audition, she tried out both American and British accents, before producers decided to stick with her natural twang.

She told On Demand Entertainment: “I just don’t think I look very American at all. It’s the teeth. No Americans have my teeth…They just don’t.”

Lady Gaga Says She Was ‘Not Deeply In Touch With Reality’ During Period Of Psychosis

Lady Gaga is opening up about one of her biggest mental health struggles.

“I had psychosis,” the Abracadabra singer revealed in a candid sit-down with the New York Times’ The Interview podcast, released over the weekend.

She said of her mental health episode, which happened around five years ago, that she was “not deeply in touch with reality for a while”, recalling: “It took me out of life in a big way, and after a lot of years of hard work I got myself back.”

Gaga – whose legal name is Stefani Germanotta – said that she is finding that period of her life “increasingly harder to talk about”.

“I hate feeling defined by it. It felt like something I felt ashamed of,” the Oscar winner admitted.

“But I don’t think that we should feel ashamed if we go through times like that. I mostly just wish to say, it can get better. It did for me, and I’m grateful for that.”

Gaga added that her fiancé, Michael Polansky, helped encourage her during this turbulent time.

“When I met Michael, I was in a much better place, but I remember him saying to me, pretty early on, ‘I know you could be a lot happier than you are’,” Gaga shared.

“It was really hard for me to hear him say that because I didn’t want him to think that of me,” she explained, adding that she “wanted him to think I was like this happy, totally together person”.

During Gaga’s press tour for her upcoming album, Mayhem, the singer has disclosed a lot about her relationship with Michael.

In an interview with Good Morning America, for example, Gaga shared the ultra-direct question she asked him before their first date.

“Michael flew to Vegas when I was doing my show to take me on our first date, and before we even sat down, I said, ‘Do you want marriage and kids?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, I do,’” Gaga revealed.

“And I said, ‘OK. Great. Do you want some champagne?’ And he said, ‘Sure.’”

Lady Gaga Reveals This Romantic Conversation With Her Fiancé Inspired Stand-Out Mayhem Track

Lady Gaga has made no secret of the fact she’s feeling pretty loved-up right now, following her engagement to entrepreneur Michael Polansky last year.

In fact, Gaga has even revealed it was her fiancé who encouraged her to throw herself back into pop music with both feet, and he’s even credited as the executive producer of her new album, Mayhem, which was released on Friday morning.

One Mayhem cut, Blade Of Grass, is inspired by the Grammy winner’s new relationship, and she recently opened up to USA Today about how a conversation with her husband-to-be inspired the song.

“We started working on that song after we got engaged,” she explained.

“A long time ago, we were in the backyard and he said, ‘If I ever propose to you, what should I do?’. I said, ‘You can just wrap a blade of grass around my finger and I’ll say yes’.”

On the finished song, Gaga can be heard singing: “Come on and wrap that blade of grass, around my finger like a cast. ’Cause even though the church burned down, I’ll be your queen without a crown.

“I’ve been so lonely in this field, fightin’ a battle with no shield. Come on and wrap that blade of grass, and we’ll make it last.”

The Oscar winner added: “It’s a love song between the two of us, but sometimes when we find love in our lives, it can also help us reflect on what it took to get there.

“Standing in my backyard, looking out at the ocean, I was thinking about all the people I’ve left behind or lost along the way. It was this incredibly happy moment and also bittersweet, which is why that record is haunting and beautiful.”

Gaga told British Vogue last year, around the release of her film Joker: Folie À Deux: “Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music’.”

He also told the outlet: “Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean in to the joy of it.

“On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

So far, Mayhem has received near-unanimous praise from critics, and has been hailed as a return to her musical roots, harking back to sounds first used on her albums The Fame and Born This Way.

It was preceded by the singles Disease, Abracadabra and the Bruno Mars collaboration Die With A Smile, all of which reached the top 10 here in the UK.
