Lisa Kudrow Says Jerry Seinfeld Took Some Credit For The Success Of Friends

Jerry Seinfeld was all too happy to take some credit for the success of Friends, according to an anecdote from Lisa Kudrow. Luckily, she seems to agree with the comedian.

Lisa opened up about sharing time with the other iconic series of the ’90s, and told The Daily Beast in an interview that she didn’t feel competitive “at all” with Seinfeld. In fact, she explained how the series actually helped boost ratings and contribute to the incredible success of Friends.

“Not to take anything away from the writing on Friends, or the cast, or how good Friends really was, but the first season our ratings were just fine,” Lisa said.

“We held onto enough of [sitcom] Mad About You and starting building, but it was in the summer when we were in reruns after Seinfeld, where Seinfeld was our lead-in, where we exploded,” she added, before recalling an anecdote that screams Seinfeld.

“I remember going to some party and Jerry Seinfeld was there, and I said, ‘Hi,’ and he said, ‘You’re welcome,’” Lisa said. “I said, ‘Why, thank you … what?’” And he said, ‘You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome.’ And I said, ‘That’s exactly right. Thank you.’”

But unlike Friends, which scored big with its reunion in 2021, Seinfeld is still holding off on getting the cast together – for now.

“It would seem sad to me,” Jerry said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2021. “It would seem like we couldn’t think of a new idea.”

When the interviewer at the time suggested the Seinfeld cast and crew could put together something like Friends did for their reunion special, the comedian joked: “I don’t think you win Emmys for that stuff.”

The reunion did, however, get four Emmy nominations.

ABBA Still Have A Few Surprises In Store For Fans At Their Voyage Concert Experience

ABBA’s spectacular Voyage concert experience has been up and running in London for the past six weeks, winning rave reviews and bringing some much-needed joy and escapism to those who’ve already attended.

The show sees digital versions of the Swedish pop giants – dubbed the “ABBAtars” – performing the show each night, with the four members of ABBA donning motion capture suits during the pandemic to help put the extravaganza together.

With the whole thing being pre-recorded, you’d be forgiven for thinking that once you’ve seen the show, there wouldn’t be any surprises if you decide to go again.

However, ABBA Voyage producer Ludvig Andersson (yes, Benny’s son) has told Retro Pop magazine the group actually recorded performances of more songs that didn’t end up being included in the finished concert.

“We did more songs than we knew we were going to use. So there is more material,” he revealed.

“If this keeps running and people keep wanting to come and see it, we are intending to change a song out or update the show, because that’s also fun to do.”

That means if your favourite ABBA song didn’t end up being featured in Voyage, it might pop up in a later incarnation of the show.

Ludvig also revealed plans to recreate the custom-built ABBA Arena in territories like North and South America, to give more fans overseas the opportunity to experience Voyage themselves.

Voyage’s setlist already boasts a string of ABBA staples, as well as lesser-known tracks like Hole In Your Soul and Eagle, alongside their 2021 hits I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down.

The latter two tracks were written and recorded especially for the show, and eventually inspired ABBA to record an entire album of new material, which topped the charts all over the world upon its release last year.

Guy Pearce Reveals His Secret Nod To Pal Kate Winslet In Neighbours’ Final Episodes

Guy Pearce has revealed he slotted in a secret nod to his friend Kate Winslet during his return to Neighbours.

The Hollywood star found fame on the Australian soap playing Mike Young between 1986 and 1989.

It was recently announced Guy had reprised his role for the forthcoming finale, after the soap was axed after 37 years on air in March.

When news reached his friend Kate, she begged to come and see him on set, and while that didn’t work out, Guy found a way to make sure she was included in his scenes.

Speaking on Australian breakfast show Studio 10 this week, Guy said: “Kate Winslet is a big fan of [Neighbours]. She’s literally wetting herself that I’m back on the show. She was besotted with Mike back in the day.

“So when I told her I was coming back to do the show, she said: ‘Right, I have to be there, I’m coming.’

“And when I talked to the producer about it, he said: ‘Well maybe we could make the mother of your child, maybe she could be Kate?’

″That’s a little personal in my life, so let’s not call her Kate,” said Guy, who was married to Kate Mestitz between 1997 and 2015. “So she’s called Rose, which was Kate’s character on Titanic. So Winslet is kind of here in spirit.”

He added: “[Kate] was like, ‘Darling, I need to see the scripts. What’s going on in the storyline?’

“If she was here, she’d be on this set now pushing her way into every scene she possibly could.”

Guy and Kate starred in the 2011 HBO series Mildred Pierce together, for which they both won Emmys, before appearing alongside each other once again in last year’s Mare Of Easttown.

In the interview, Guy also revealed more about Mike’s return to Neighbours, after the character was last seen in 1989 when he moved to Perth to become a teacher.

He said: “We learn through these new episodes that I have a child and I have now moved back, me and my daughter, to Melbourne, Erinsborough.”

Guy is one of a number of much-loved Neighbours stars returning to the show for its final episodes.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan have reprised their roles as Charlene and Scott Robinson, while the likes of Ian Smith (Harold Bishop), Peter O’Brien (Shane Ramsay), Mark Little (Joe Mangel), Daniel MacPherson (Joel Samuels) and Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Izzy Hoyland) are also back.

Neighbours finished filming on Friday, with executive producer Jason Herbison revealing “tears were shed” as the cameras stopped rolling for the last time.

Neighbours will come to an end with a special double bill of episodes on Monday 1 August in Australia and the UK.
