Tory Leadership Hopeful Kemi Badenoch Declares She Is A ‘Huge Fan’ Of Elon Musk

Kemi Badenoch has claimed she is a “huge fan” of the world’s richest man, the owner of X Elon Musk, in a new interview.

The Tory leadership hopeful and shadow housing secretary revealed she supports the controversial figure because of his advocacy of freedom of speech.

Speaking to The Spectator, she said: “I think Elon Musk has been a fantastic thing for freedom of speech.

“I will hold my hand up and say, I’m a huge fan of Elon Musk.

“I look at Twitter before he took over and after: there is a lot more free speech.

“Yes, there are many, many more things that I see on X, as he calls it, that I don’t like.

“But I also know that views are not suppressed the way that they were, that there was a cultural establishment – that was very left – that controlled quite a lot of discourse on that platform.”

Musk has turned X (formerly Twitter) upside down since his takeover almost two years ago.

The billionaire, who is a vocal Donald Trump supporter, reinstated several previously banned accounts including that of the former US president, and introducing a subscription service to the platform.

More recently, he has repeated baseless conspiracy theories that there is a “two-tier” policing system in the UK, suggesting the far-right rioters seen in August ended up with a harsher punishment compared to previous pro-Palestine demonstrators.

Musk was also slapped down by No.10 when he claimed “civil war is inevitable” in the UK. Downing Street said: “There’s no justification for comments like that.”

Badenoch, who is currently competing against frontrunner Robert Jenrick, James Cleverly and Tom Tugendhat for the title of Tory leader, was the only leadership hopeful to announce support for Musk in her interview with the Spectator.

Jenrick said he was “not going to be booking a tête-à-tête with Elon Musk any time soon”, while Cleverly said you have to be “very, very careful about curtailing voices that you disagree with”.

Tugendhat appeared to question how Musk has handled X, saying: “If you are running a platform that is entirely dominated by anonymous bots, is that freedom of speech – or just propaganda?

“If you are allowed to say whatever you like but you put your name to it, that’s freedom of speech. And it should be defended, absolutely.”

Putin Risking ‘Disaster’ By Planning Attack On Ukraine’s Nuclear Power Plants, Says Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The Ukrainian president told the United Nations General Assembly that his intelligence agencies had uncovered his Russian counterpart’s deadly intentions.

He said the revelation was further proof of the need for the international community to continue to put pressure on Putin to end the war.

Zelenskyy said: “Recently I received another alarming report from our intelligence. Now Putin does seem to be planning attacks on our nuclear power plants and their infrastructure, aiming to disconnect the plants from the power grid.

“With the help of satellites, by the way, of other countries, Russia is getting images and detailed information about the infrastructure of our nuclear power plants.

“But what does this really threaten? Any missile or drone strike, any critical incident in the energy system, could lead to a nuclear disaster. A day like that must never come.

“Moscow needs to understand this and this depends, in part, on your determination to put pressure on the aggressor. These are nuclear power plants. They must be safe.”

He added: “If, God forbid, Russia causes a nuclear disaster at one of our nuclear power plants, the radiation will not respect state borders, and unfortunately various nations could feel the devastating effects.”

Noticing This Voice Change Can Be A Sign Of Laryngeal Cancer

As we head into cold and flu season, it’s normal to experience some hoarseness and a creaky voice.

If the cause is laryngitis, the NHS shared you can expect the problem to resolve itself in one to two weeks.

But laryngeal, or voicebox, cancer affects around 2,000 people a year in the UK.

Those stats make it a less common cancer (in comparison, the UK sees 56,000 cases of breast cancer a year), which may be why I’d never heard of it until last week.

This cancer can show up in your vocals first, especially if you’ve had a hoarse voice for over three weeks, the NHS says.

What are the other symptoms?

You might also experience a sore throat that doesn’t seem to budge or difficulty when swallowing, along with a lump or swelling in the neck.

Other symptoms can include lasting breathlessness or a persistent earache.

In some cases, you might notice a high-pitched wheezing sound when you breathe.

Additionally, some people might notice bad breath, unintentional weight loss or ongoing fatigue.

“You should see a GP if you have had a hoarse voice for more than three weeks,” the NHS advises.

Though “these symptoms are often caused by less serious conditions,” it’s still “a good idea to get them checked out”, they say.

Who is more likely to get laryngeal cancer?

People tend to get it when they’re over 60, and more men develop the cancer than women.

We don’t know for sure what causes it, but it’s been linked to smoking tobacco, drinking heavily and often, a poor diet, a family history of the condition, and some chemicals (like asbestos and coal dust).

“Fortunately, most laryngeal cancers are diagnosed at an early stage, which means the outlook is generally better than some other types of cancer,” the NHS says.

Heart Radio Breakfast co-host Jamie Theakston, who recently revealed he “had an operation to remove a lesion from my vocal cords” due to the cancer, said that his prognosis was “very positive”.

Ellen Degeneres Has Released Her Latest Netflix Special And People Already Have Strong Feelings

Ellen Degeneres’ latest comedy offering has already sparked a lot of conversation, and probably not for the reasons she was hoping.

On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled For Your Approval, Ellen’s newest stand-up comedy special, which she is billing as her last ever.

The special marks a major step back into the spotlight for Ellen after the much-publicised end of her talk show in 2022, following a BuzzFeed News report featuring the accounts of nearly a dozen former employees who accused the presenter of fostering a toxic work environment on the set of her eponymous daytime series.

In the report, Ellen and executives on the show were accused of regularly making inappropriate comments about employees’ race, firing staff for taking medical leave and creating a general culture of fear within the workplace.

And while Ellen does address the controversy throughout her special, people aren’t exactly impressed with the way the subject is handled.

For Your Approval opens with a perturbed-looking Ellen surrounded by negative tweets (as they were then known) about the allegations, with one clip that’s been viewed on X almost eight million times branding the set-up “ridiculous”.
