Joel Dommett’s 12 Best And Silliest NTAs One-Liners From His First Time As Host

Joel Dommett made his debut as the host of the National Television Awards on Thursday night, and he definitely got the thumbs up from us.

For the past two years on The Masked Singer (and spin-off series The Masked Dancer), the comedian has become known for his irreverent and unapologetically cheesy sense of humor, and that’s exactly what he brought to the NTAs stage.

True, his first time hosting the show probably won’t be winning him any awards for edgy or biting comedy in the near future, but for a night like the NTAs – which, let’s face it, has veered close to dull in previous years – Joel got the tone exactly right.

Here are 12 of our favourite silly moments from Joel during his first time hosting…

1. Setting the tone right off the bat during a pre-recorded introductory sketch

“Everything’s going to be NTA-OK. Don’t worry I won’t use that on the night.”

2. Introducing the show with a bit of help from the stars of Love Island

3. Giving us some very hard-hitting commentary on the pandemic

Fox News Ripped After Host Lavishes Praise On Kim Jong Un’s Body

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un showed off what many observers believed was a much slimmer figure at a military parade this week, and at least one Fox News host is thrilled with the apparent transformation. 

“He’s fit, he’s fun and he’s fascist!” Rachel Campos-Duffy said on Primetime, mimicking the commentary that might accompany a fashion show. “Take a look at Kim Jong Un flaunting his new tan and slim physique at the North Korean military parade.” 

She showed images of the dictator – one of the world’s most infamous human rights abusers – and said “after this photo op, many might start calling him Slim Jong Un.” 

Guest Jimmy Failla, a comedian, said he doesn’t buy it. 

“He does look good!” Campos-Duffy interrupted. “I’m sorry, he looks better than our president!” 

Failla argued it was a body double. 

Campos-Duffy delivered her praise of the physique of an actual authoritarian dictator without irony on a show that also featured guests calling President Joe Biden an authoritarian:  

Human Rights Watch says North Korea is “among the world’s most repressive countries,” noting:

“A 2014 UN Commission of Inquiry found that the government committed violations amounting to crimes against humanity, including extermination, murder, enslavement, torture, rape, and forced abortions. North Korea operates secret prison camps where presumed government opponents face torture, forced labor, and starvation.” 

The US State Department also has a lengthy report detailing the human rights abuses committed by Kim’s regime.

The One Show’s Jermaine Jenas Suggests Jennifer Aniston Isn’t A Morning Person During ‘Awkward’ Exchange

The One Show has a habit of bagging bona fide A-list stars to its tea time slot (don’t tell Graham Norton), and on Wednesday’s edition of the BBC One show, it had not one, but two Hollywood stars drop by.

Jennifer Aniston and Reece Witherspoon appeared by video link to chat about the second series of their Apple TV drama, The Morning Show, and Jen looked just as surprised to be there as we were to see her.

As hosts Zoe Ball and Jermaine Jenas kicked off the interview, some viewers commented that she didn’t look entirely comfortable and things appeared to take a bit of an awkward turn when Jermaine suggested she wasn’t a “morning person”.

When the Friends star was quizzed about going behind the scenes on a real morning TV show to get inspiration for their hit series The Morning Show, the actor explained:  “I learned the slow burn that it is.

“It’s a very vampire state of life and mind that you guys live in. Everybody comes alive in the middle of the night and it’s a slow-moving train.”

She continued: “I got there at five in the morning and the hallways were quiet and people are just slowly waking up and then all of a sudden, the train starts moving and it gets crazier and crazier.

“It’s utter chaos.”

Before she had finished speaking, Jermaine chipped in, saying: “Reese, I am going to be honest with you. Jennifer pretty much sold it to be that she is not a morning person, so I am going to ask you, are you a morning person?”

Surprised, Jennifer replied: “Did I sell that to you?”

Jermaine replied: “A little bit.”

The actor then asked: “Did I get a good deal?”

The exchange didn’t go unnoticed by some viewers…

Gavin Williamson ‘Highly Unlikely’ To Be Racist, Says Minister

A minister was forced to defend Gavin Williamson today after he came under fire for confusing footballer Marcus Rashford with rugby player Maro Itoje. 

Helen Whately said she thought it was “highly unlikely” the education secretary was racist when quizzed on LBC.

It comes after Williamson was quoted in the Evening Standard as saying he had enjoyed a Zoom discussion with England player Rashford. However, an aide later clarified he had in fact spoken to Itoje.

Asked if he was racist or incompetent, Whately initially said: “Honestly, I don’t know.

“He’s put out his explanation and there’s really nothing more that I can say about it.”

Pressed by presenter Nick Ferrari, she added: “I can’t believe for a moment that he is. I think that is highly unlikely.

“It’s not necessarily one or the other. You’ve given me a false choice – you’re trying to put me in a trap.”

Manchester United’s Rashford responded to Williamson’s comment, saying the difference in accent between him and Londoner Itoje was a possible “giveaway”.

England and Saracens star Itoje tweeted: “Due to recent speculation I thought it was necessary to confirm that I am not Marcus Rashford.

“And whilst we are here my name is not Mario either!! Just a simple Maro Itoje will do.

“Much love, Marcu… I mean Maro Itoje.”

In a statement, Williamson said: “Towards the end of a wide-ranging interview, in which I talked about both the laptops and school meals campaigns, I conflated the issues and made a genuine mistake.

“We corrected this with the journalist before publication of the story.

“I have huge respect for both Marcus Rashford and Maro Itoje, who run effective and inspiring campaigns.”

‘So That’s His Secret’: Jimmy Kimmel Trolls Trump’s Brain Claim

Jimmy Kimmel finally agrees with former President Donald Trump about something. 

Earlier this week, Trump crowed about President Joe Biden’s sinking poll numbers, then repeated his false claims about last year’s election.

“Well, I beat him in 2020,” Trump claimed in an interview with Newsmax. “I mean, I think we won the election by a lot. I don’t even think.” 

(Note: He did not).

But the last four words of Trump’s comment struck Kimmel. 

“So that’s his secret,” Kimmel said. “I’ve not agreed with him before but he’s right. He does not think.”

This Is The Leg Up Young People Get If They Have Rich Parents

Young adults with the richest parents are typically around six times as wealthy themselves as those who come from the poorest families, according to analysis.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) explored the impact that wealthier parents have on transferring economic advantages on to their children in the UK.

By the time they were in their 30s, people born in the 1970s and 1980s, with parents in the wealthiest fifth in their generation, had average net wealth of £107,000, the think-tank said.

This was around six times the £18,000 held by those with parents in the poorest fifth in terms of wealth. The figures exclude pensions wealth.

The IFS’s findings suggest that the link between young adults’ wealth and that of their parents is stronger than the influence that parents’ earnings has.

Even among those whose parents have the same levels of earnings and education, people with wealthier parents tend to earn more, the IFS said.

People with wealthier parents also tend to save more as a portion of their earnings. The children of wealthier parents may receive more transfers and capital income on top of their earnings, and so are able to save some of this additional income.

Those with wealthier parents are also more likely to hold higher-risk, higher-return investments such as stocks and shares.

With many parents passing wealth down the generations, the children of the wealthiest fifth of parents are nearly three times as likely as those with average parental wealth to be in the wealthiest fifth within their own generation.

The research was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

This wealth divide also impact’s young people’s on the ability to get on the property ladder. Around two-thirds (65%) of those whose parents are in the top third of wealth distribution are homeowners by the age of 30. This compares with 56% and 41% for those whose parents were in the middle and bottom thirds, respectively.

David Sturrock, a senior research economist and author of the report said: “Policies that seek to improve educational progression and labour market outcomes for those with low education and low income parents could, if designed and implemented well, be important for wealth mobility but would not on their own equalise wealth outcomes between those with wealthier and poorer parents.

“A significant amount of the inequalities in wealth by parental background appear to be due to other channels through which parents transmit advantages to their children.”

Who You Gonna Call? Jake Gyllenhaal In The Guilty Trailer, Apparently

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in Netflix’s The Guilty

Having seemingly perfected his impression of Connie Britton’s serious listening face from 9-1-1, Jake Gyllenhaal will now take your call in the first trailer for the upcoming film The Guilty.

The bathing-optional Oscar nominee stars as a former police detective who now toils away at a 911 call centre in the Netflix thriller, which hits the streaming service on 1 October. 

Based on the much-lauded 2018 Danish crime flick of the same name, which took place entirely in a single room throughout the course of a phone call, The Guilty sees Jake try to solve a crime at his desk after he’s contacted by a woman who claims to have been abducted. 

Netflix’s synopsis says of The Guilty: “The film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call centre.

“Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger — but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.”

“I’m sorry I have to hang up,” the mysterious woman says in the trailer after her captor discovers she’s phoned for help. “I’m gonna die.” 

Penned by True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto and helmed by Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, who previously collaborated with Jake on the boxing drama Southpaw, The Guilty has been a passion project of sorts for the actor, who once moderated a Q&A with the original film’s director, Gustav Möller, before landing the rights to the film. 

Teasing the project on his own Instagram account on Saturday, Jake posted a video with a telephone number, which plays a version of the 911 call his character answers in the film.

The Guilty also stars Ethan Hawke, Riley Keough, Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Bill Burr. Watch the exciting trailer below:

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Castle Vandalised By Children Ahead Of New Series

The Welsh castle being used as the site for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has been vandalised ahead of the new series, it has been revealed.

The reality show is returning to Gwrych Castle for a second successive year after the pandemic forced producers to abandon plans to use the usual Australian base in 2020.

A member of castle staff revealed that three children were seen “demolishing the battlements” on Sunday, shortly before the site was handed over to ITV.

The worker told the PA news agency he was “astonished”, adding: “Thankfully nobody was injured, but part of the Grade l-listed building was damaged.”

The castle, located near Abergele in North Wales, also posted about the incident on Twitter, along with a photo showing bricks knocked out of place from the historic wall.

A message posted on the castle’s Twitter account said: “Our final day reminded us how far we’ve come, but also how much we have left to do over the coming years.

“It was a huge shame to see that somebody damaged one of the restored battlements on the east lawn on our last day.

“This goes to show the huge task we have ahead of us!”

The site was taken over by the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust in 2018, which said it wanted to make the estate safe and secure.

The trust said the castle has previously experienced arson attacks, vandalism and theft.

A representative for the trust said: “We believe that it’s important that people are aware that even in the 21st century, historical landmarks are still being damaged and left to deteriorate.”

The castle confirmed it closed to the public on Sunday, due to hosting the ITV programme, and would not reopen until 2022.

Ant and Dec

The move from Australia to the Welsh location will help the ongoing restoration of the castle, according to Mark Baker, chair of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will return to host the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity.

Ant previously said he would be “very happy” for the programme to return to Wales.

The last series of the programme was won by podcast host Giovanna Fletcher.

Cardi B And Offset Announce Birth Of Second Child With Beautiful Family Photo

Cardi B announced the birth of her second child with husband Offset Monday in a sweet Instagram post showing the couple gazing at their new baby.

She captioned the photo simply, “9/4/21” ― presumably confirming the newborn arrived on 4 September ― and included dinosaur, blue heart and teddy bear emojis.

The WAP rapper and Migos member already have a daughter together, three-year-old Culture. Offset also has three older children from previous relationships.

Cardi B publicly revealed her pregnancy during the 2021 BET Awards in June.

During Migos’ Type S**t performance, she joined them onstage wearing a custom bodysuit with a mesh cutout showing her pregnancy bump.

The next day, she thanked fans for their “congrats and well wishes” in an Instagram post featuring an affectionate photo of herself and Offset.

“We listened to each other, communicated, prayed and then God blessed us and our family with another little blessing,” she wrote. “Our home feels so blissful and very busy… but we are ready and so happy!!”

Simone Biles Decimates Critics Who Called Her A ‘Quitter’

Simone Biles has the perfect retort ready for anyone who calls her a “quitter”: She can’t hear you over her seven Olympic medals.

The Olympic great took to Instagram over the weekend to reflect on the month that’s passed since the Tokyo Olympics. She also snuck in a few words for her critics.

“Definitely not the way I planned the olympics going but I wouldn’t change anything for the world,” Biles captioned the post, alongside a photo of her two medals from the Tokyo Games. “I’m proud of myself and the career I’ve had thus far. this olympics doesn’t erase the past accomplishments I’ve achieved nor does it define who I am as an athlete.”

“I’ve pushed through so much the past couple years, the word quitter is not in my vocabulary,” the gymnast continued. “For some of you that may be how you define me but keep talking because I can’t hear you over my 7 olympic medals which tied me for the most decorated gymnast EVER as well as most decorated american gymnast.”

Biles’ caption garnered a lot of praise in the comments.

“‘Haters, keep talking I can’t hear you over my 7 Olympic medals,’” one supporter wrote. “Best line ever. The queen has spoken.”

Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis responded to Biles’ post with a simple but effective “Woooooooohoooooo!!!!!!!!” and several heart emojis, while fellow U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles wrote, “Preach! Say it louder for the people in the back.”

Biles faced waves of both backlash and support following her decision to withdraw from the team’s all-around final in Japan, citing mental health concerns and a disorienting issue that gymnasts sometimes experience known as the “twisties.”

She subsequently pulled out of four individual finals before making a comeback and securing bronze on the balance beam. The win tied Biles with Shannon Miller for the most medals won by an American gymnast.

“We’re not just entertainment, we’re humans,” Biles told the Associated Press at the time. “And there are things going on behind the scenes that we’re also trying to juggle with as well, on top of sports.”
