People With Suspected ADHD Are Facing A Crisis In The UK

While the UK ADHD population is still grappling with ongoing medication shortages, new research from Mamedica has found that not only are the 2.6 million people diagnosed being left behind but a further 4.5 million Brits believe that they have undiagnosed ADHD.

Undiagnosed ADHD can come with a myriad of complications which leads to a reduction in quality of life for neurodivergent people. According to ADDitude Magazine, undiagnosed ADHD can lead to impulsivity, emotional instability ,and feelings of anger and worthlessness.

How long are NHS waiting lists for ADHD diagnosis?

Of course, throughout the UK, waiting list times differ but a report by ITV released in October found that in some areas of the UK, adults could be waiting up to 10 years for a diagnosis.

Speaking to ITV, a Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “We know how vital it is to have timely diagnoses for ADHD, and we are committed to reducing diagnosis delays and improving access to support.”

Additionally, Sheffield magazine Now Then has reported that in the 12 months between June 2022 and June 2023, only 21 adults received an assessment from The Sheffield Adult Autism and Neurodevelopmental Service (SAANS), which resulted in nine diagnoses.

Now Then stated that with 5,481 service users on the waiting list at the end of the same period, with current assessment rates, it would take 261 years to get through the current waiting list.

How this crisis is affecting women

According to the ADHD Foundation, 50-75% of the women in the UK with ADHD are undiagnosed, and as a result may be experiencing poor health and socio-economic outcomes.

While awareness of ADHD in women and girls has improved in recent years, ADDitude Magazine warns that there is still a lot of information gaps with professionals such as teachers and gynaecologists.

They said: “We now know that fluctuating female hormones worsen ADHD symptoms, yet this important issue is largely neglected. Gynaecologists are not educated about ADHD; psychiatrists don’t study the effects of female hormones on the condition; and many females feel minimised and mistreated.”

How is the ADHD diagnosis crisis being tackled?

The shortage in medication has led to doctors in England being told to not prescribe new patients with ADHD medication but this is expected to be resolved by December. From there, it is up to individual health boards to tackle backlogs.

However, back in May of this year, MPs on the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) called on the government to prioritise tackling NHS waiting lists to assess people who could have the disorder.

Tory MP James Sunderland, a vice chair on the APPG, said to PoliticsHome that he wants the government to “throw the kitchen sink” at tackling NHS backlogs relating to ADHD, particularly for school-aged children.

Hannah Waddingham And Jason Sudeikis Reunite For Shallow Duet And We’re So Off The Deep End

On Saturday night, the Emmy-winning British star was among the guests at Jason’s annual Thundergong! charity function in his Missouri hometown, and joined him on stage to cover Lady Gaga’s chart-topping mega hit A Star Is Born.

Jason initially made out he was going to perform the duet with his former Saturday Night Live co-star Will Forte – before Hannah made her surprise appearance to perform Gaga’s parts of the Oscar-winning song.

And the results? Well, just watch for yourself.

Jason and Hannah both appeared in all three seasons of Ted Lasso, the last of which came to an end in May.

While there’s seemingly no plan for a follow-up, Hannah has made no secret of her hopes for a fourth series to happen in the future, previously revealing she was finding it hard to say goodbye to her character, Rebecca Welton, the owner of the fictional team AFC Richmond.

“Rebecca Welton doesn’t exist unless I’m playing her,” she admitted. “And that’s the hardest thing I’m dealing with at the moment. That I’ve lost a pal.”

As the festive season approaches, we should probably all be prepared to see a lot more of the former Eurovision host on our screens in the coming weeks.

‘Brilliant’ Joe Biden Ad Torches Donald Trump In Simplest Possible Way

Donald Trump’s derogatory comments about U.S. military service members and veterans were used against him in a powerful new ad released by President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign to mark Veterans Day.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough hailed the spot as “brilliant” because it simply used the former president’s own words “to drive the message home.”

The video highlights Republican 2024 front-runner Trump’s description of fallen soldiers as “suckers” and his criticism of the late Senator John McCain for being captured during the Vietnam War.

“If you don’t respect our troops, you can’t lead them,” the ad says at the end.

The spot has garnered more than 24.5 million views on X, formerly Twitter.

And Scarborough’s analysis of the 45-second clip on Monday’s broadcast of “Morning Joe” has received more than 1.2 million views on YouTube alone.

Trump never served in the military. He received five deferments to avoid the Vietnam draft and in 1998 told radio host Howard Stern that his own personal Vietnam was avoiding contracting STDs.

Ex-Senior Trump Official: He’s A ‘Traitor’ And ‘A Clear And Present Danger’

A former senior official in Donald Trump’s White House slammed his ex-boss as a “traitor” and “a clear and present danger to our democracy,” according to a new book by ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

Karl told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Monday evening that the unnamed official served Trump “loyally” for more than a year “at a very high level inside the West Wing, very close to Donald Trump” and hasn’t been publicly critical of him.

Psaki read the full quote from the official:

“He lacks any shred of human decency, humility or caring. He is morally bankrupt, breathtakingly dishonest, lethally incompetent, and stunningly ignorant of virtually anything related to governing, history, geography, human events or world affairs. He is a traitor and a malignancy in our nation and represents a clear and present danger to our democracy and the rule of law.”

“It gets to a fundamental truth about Donald Trump, and that is the most piercing and searing criticism of him,” Karl said. “The people that are sounding the alarm loudest about what a second Trump term would mean are those who are closest to him.”

Karl told Psaki that the former official hasn’t gone public because he fears “retribution” from Trump against himself and his family.

Karl’s book, “Tired of Winning,” hits shelves on Tuesday.
