John Lydon Blasts Danny Boyle’s Upcoming Sex Pistols Biopic: ‘It’s A Disgrace’

Sex Pistols star John Lydon has blasted an upcoming biopic based on the group, branding the upcoming venture “the most disrespectful shit I’ve ever had to endure”.

Filming is currently underway on Pistol, a new miniseries directed by Danny Boyle, which is based on guitarist Steve Jones’ 2018 book Lonely Boy: Tales From A Sex Pistol.

In a new interview with the Sunday Times, John – who was known under the stage name Johnny Rotten when the Sex Pistols debuted in the 1970s – blasted the show, claiming it was greenlit without his consent.

He also told the publication that he was seeking legal advice about the show, in which he’ll be portrayed by 1917 actor Anson Boon.

“I think that’s the most disrespectful shit I’ve ever had to endure,” he said. “I mean, they went to the point to hire an actor to play me but what’s the actor working on? Certainly not my character.”

“It can’t go anywhere else [but court],” he continued.

John added: “Sorry, you think you can do this, like walk all over me – it isn’t going to happen. Not without a huge, enormous fucking fight.

“I’m Johnny, you know, and when you interfere with my business you’re going to get the bitter end of my business as a result. It’s a disgrace.”

A rep for Pistol told the Sunday Times claimed that Danny Boyle had contacted John Lydon’s management company about Pistol but “ultimately direct contact was declined”.

Gal Gadot Chopped Off A Fingertip And Her Husband Threw It Down The Garbage Disposal

Gal Gadot bonded with US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel over their missing fingertips this week.

Speaking to the presenter via video-link, the Wonder Woman star recalled a kitchen accident during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, around the same time as that panned “Imagine” video.

She remembered accidentally slicing the end of her finger off while cutting cabbage following some daytime drinking.

Her husband, Yaron Varsano, held up the tip and was so disgusted with it, she said, that he tossed it in into the garbage disposal.

“Wow, he threw your finger down the garbage disposal!” said a stunned Kimmel, who earlier revealed how he had once lost one of his own fingertips while cutting Parmesan cheese.

“It was a mess. We were a mess,” admitted Gal, who said she stopped drinking following the accident. The actor is now pregnant with her third child.

To Kimmel’s further astonishment, Gal said she didn’t even go to the hospital following the injury.

“There was nothing to sew,” she explained.

The View’s Joy Behar Apologises After Repeatedly Misgendering Caitlyn Jenner On Air

The View panellist Joy Behar has apologised after repeatedly misgendering Caitlyn Jenner during a recent segment on the US daytime show.

On Friday, Joy repeatedly used “he” and “him” pronouns when referring to Caitlyn – who came out as transgender in 2016 – following the news that the Olympian and reality star is running for governor of California.

After correcting herself at the time, Joy addressed the “mix-up” on air, when the show returned from a commercial break.

“So first of all let me apologise for my pronoun mix-up. I think I just didn’t get enough sleep last night,” she told viewers.

Joy continued: “I had no intention of mixing [the pronouns] up, and I tried to correct it immediately… but whatever. It just came out. So I’m sorry if anybody was upset by that.”

Two weeks after it was first rumoured that Caitlyn was looking into running for governor of California, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star confirmed her plans on Friday.

California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality,” she said.

“But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.”

When it comes to politics, Caitlyn has been a contentious figure, not least as a result of her on-off support for former US leader Donald Trump in the lead up to and during his presidency.

However, last year, Caitlyn told People magazine that she’s “changed my thinking in a lot of ways” in recent years. She now identifies as “economically conservative, socially progressive” and believes “we need equality for all, regardless of who’s in the White House”.

“I love my community. I truly want to help,” she said at the time. “This is my journey. Yes, it is different than other trans people. I get it. But the bottom line is this: When I wake up in the morning, I’m happy with myself.”

Oprah Winfrey Says Even She Was Surprised By Revelations In Meghan And Harry Interview

Oprah Winfrey has admitted that even she was surprised with certain revelations made by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry during their recent sit-down interview.

Last month, Oprah’s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines the world over, after the couple made a series of shocking claims about royal life.

Among these were allegations that a senior royal had expressed racist concerns about the colour of her son’s skin to Prince Harry before Archie was born.

Meghan also told the US broadcasting legend that she had experienced suicidal feelings as a member of the Royal Family, but after asking “the institution” if she could “go somewhere to get help”, this was apparently denied to her.

Reflecting about the interview on Nancy O’Dell’s TalkShopLive show, Oprah said she was surprised to hear Meghan go “all the way there” with her allegations of racism.

“I was surprised,” Oprah said. “I was surprised at the amount of, you know… literally with that thing that’s now become a meme. That’s like, ‘what?’. I’m like, ‘what? You’re going there? You’re going all the way there?’.”

Oprah was referring to her stunned response to Meghan’s racism allegations, which has since become a reaction meme on social media.

She continued: “The reason why it was such a powerful interview… is when you have somebody else who is willing to be as open, as vulnerable, as truthful as they were.”

During her discussion with Nancy O’Dell, Oprah revealed she had contacted Meghan and Harry via text message before their interview went ahead.

“[I told them that] intention is very important to me, tell me what your intention is, so that we can be aligned with our goal,” Oprah explained.

“Our shared intention was the truth. They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible.”

Although Meghan and Harry both declined to elaborate on which senior royal had expressed racist concerns about Archie, Oprah later said that the couple had turned her off-camera that it was not the Queen or Prince Philip.

Mark Hamill Reminds Star Wars Fans What Chewbacca’s Fashion Fate Could Have Been

Star Wars legend Mark Hamill has reminded fans of the franchise that studio bosses originally considered an early version of Chewbacca that had him looking like a hirsute Bavarian mountain man.

The actor – who played Luke Skywalker in the hit sci-fi saga – tweeted on Thursday: “FUN FACT: Very early in the shooting of #SW studio execs expressed deep concern that Chewie didn’t wear any pants & suggested he wear a pair of lederhosen.

“That they would focus on this amidst all the grotesque elements in the script made us laugh (& a bit worried.)”

Fortunately, Star Wars director George Lucas was able to dissuade the studio from adorning the big guy with “walking carpet” wear pants, according to comicbook.com.

The suits and the creatives settled on just a bandolier ― and it’s been a roaring success ever since.

Still, a few fans pondered what could have been after Mark Hamill’s tweet.

Mark first mentioned the Wookiee couture issue years ago to The Associated Press, recalling how the studio wrung its hands in deciding how to dress – or not – Chewie, played by the late British actor Peter Mayhew.

“I remember the memos from 20th Century Fox,” Mark told the wire service.

”‘Can you put a pair of lederhosen on the Wookiee?’ All they could think of was, ‘This character has no pants on!’ This went back and forth. They did sketches of him in culottes and baggy shorts.”

For a couple of characters who met at the Mos Eisley Cantina, the gig and the getup worked out pretty well.

Nicola Coughlan And Kim Kardashian’s Bridgerton Love-In On Twitter Has Warmed Our Hearts

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan could not control her excitement after finding out Kim Kardashian was a fan of her’s – and it appears the feeling was very much mutual.

The pair shared a Twitter love-in after the actor revealed the Kardashians were a source of inspiration for her on the set of the hit Netflix period drama.

On Tuesday, Nicola tweeted: “As the world’s number one @bridgerton Stan does @KimKardashian know that the Kardashians were a massive inspiration for the Featheringtons and we talked about them all the time during our fittings? Because I feel like she should know this.”

And sure enough, it wasn’t long before Nicola’s tweet caught Kim’s attention, and her mind was blown.

“WHAT?!?! I am freaking out!!!!!!” Kim wrote. “This tweet was sent to me on my @bridgerton group chat! Can I please come to a fitting?!?! It would make my whole life!!!!!! I love you Lady W!!!”

Nicola. whose Bridgerton character Penelope Featherington was revealed to be the mysterious Lady Whistledown, replied: “Omg yesss of course we would love to have you!

“Also did you know that Mr Pearl made your corset for the Met Gala and the very next one he made was mine for Bridgerton? You’ve been part of the Bridgerton world for longer than you know.”

Kim then tweeted: “OMG I’m gonna faint!!!!!! Does this make me an honorary Duchess in Bridgerton ?!?!?!? I am the corset Queen!!!”

Nicola then gave her the ultimate honour, tweeting: “Why of course, Duchess Kardashian of Calabasas! Lady Whistledown is happy to declare you the season’s true incomparable.”

“I will wear this title proudly and not let you down Lady Whistledown!” Kim insisted.

Speaking to her followers, who were living for the exchange as much as she was, Nicola tweeted: “You know I’ve loved Kim for like over a decade, I can’t even deal.”

There’s a real possibility of Kim’s dreams coming true too, as earlier this month, it was confirmed that a third and fourth series of Bridgerton have now been commissioned, on top of a previously-announced second season.

Jonathan Bailey’s character Anthony Bridgerton will take centre stage in the second series, with Sex Education star Simone Ashley joining the cast as Kate, a new love interest for him.

However, it has been confirmed that Regé-Jean Page will not be appearing in the second series as the Duke Of Hastings, which did not go down well with fans.

The show’s producer Shonda Rhimes has since spoken out to deny reports that Regé-Jean turned down an offer to appear in another series

Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix now.

Elliot Page Speaks Out Over ‘Upsetting, Cruel And Exhausting’ US Transgender Bills

Elliot Page has described a wave of bills targeting the transgender community in the US as “upsetting, cruel and exhausting”.

Politicians in Alabama and North Dakota have approved bans on transgender women and girls from playing on sports teams that match their gender identity.

They joined a series of Republican-led states in having introduced bills critics describe as being anti-trans, including laws designed to ban gender-confirming surgery for transgender youths.

The actor, who came out as transgender in December, urged his social media followers to call politicians and voice their opposition to the legislation.

Elliot, known for his work on Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy, said: “As I watch the movement of these bills attacking trans youth across the US, especially this week in Florida, Alabama, Texas and North Dakota, I am thinking of my trans siblings and the collective pain that our community must endure to battle again and again for our right to exist.

“These bills are upsetting, cruel and exhausting.”

The 34-year-old added: “Call your representatives. Tell them to oppose legislation that discriminates against us. Tell them our access to health care is an inalienable human right. Tell them to let trans kids play sports. Tell them that #TransPeopleBelong – we always have, and we always will.”

Elliot also shared a picture of himself holding up a sign reading “protect trans kids”.

This year has seen a record number of anti-transgender bills introduced in the US, according to the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT advocacy group.

Transgender rights have emerged as a fraught issue in the culture wars.

Earlier this month Arkansas became the first US state to outlaw gender-affirming medical treatments or surgery for minors.

Those who back restrictions on transgender women in sports say they are essential to maintain fair competition for female athletes, while critics argue they unfairly target the transgender community and are not based on science.

Line Of Duty Sparks More Than 300 Complaints Over Hastings’ ‘Oddball’ Comment

The BBC received more than 300 complaints over a scene in a recent episode of Line Of Duty, in which a character with Down’s syndrome was referred to as “the local oddball”.

In the first episode of the current series of the police drama, Superintendent Ted Hastings was heard questioning whether Terry Boyle, a disabled character, could have been involved in a murder.

During the scene, Adrian Dunbar’s character said: “[Carl]’s much more likely to be the gunman than the local oddball, that’s for sure.”

This comment was called out by many viewers at the time, particularly as the episode aired on World Down Syndrome Day, with a BBC spokesperson insisting that Hastings’ remark was not in reference to Terry Boyle’s disability.

Adrian Dunbar’s character made the remark during the series premiere last month

It’s now been reported (via Metro) that 323 complained to the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) about the scene in question.

Responding to these complaints, a post on the ECU’s website said: “Superintendent Ted Hastings’ comments were not in reference to the character Terry Boyle’s disability – Ted Hastings had never met Terry Boyle.

“Hastings was looking only at the evidence against Boyle, namely the press cuttings of Gail Vella found in his flat.”

They added: “The word ‘oddball’ means an eccentric person and has no meaning or connotation of disability and Hastings was referring to the stalker/obsessed fan theory of Gail Vella’s murder.”

Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio previously tweeted on the subject: “‘Oddball’ has no connotation for learning difficulties. It describes a loner, an eccentric.”

Line Of Duty continues on Sunday night at 9pm on BBC One.
